Here's a sobering fact likely known to few Americans outside of the nation's capital: The federal government is the only government on earth that collects more than $1 trillion in taxes annually.
That's not unexpected since the U.S. also has the biggest single national economy in the world. It stands to reason the most productive economy would generate the most tax revenue.
But there is another way to look at that data point. Are there additional costs to Americans as a result of what the federal government does with its trillions in tax revenues?

Judge gives woman 5 days in jail for leaving toddler unattended while gambling
Alicia Brown, 25, entered the plea before Judge Paul A. Hackner in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis. The State asked Judge Hackner to incarcerate Ms. Brown. He sentenced her to three years, suspending all but five days in jail, to begin today. Ms. Brown was placed on supervised probation for three years. She was ordered to continue general counseling and to not enter any casino or gaming facility.
“Leaving a young child unattended in a vehicle is not only dangerous, it’s illegal. Even a quick run into a convenience store can result in tragic consequences, such as injury, car theft or abduction,” Leitess said. “This case is particularly disturbing as Ms. Brown left her child unattended for not minutes, but hours. We are fortunate this case did not have a more tragic outcome.”

62 New Jersey high school students arrested in senior prank
The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. at Teaneck High School. Police responded to a burglar alarm at the school and found dozens of students in the building, MyFoxNY.com reported.
"If this was a senior class prank, I just don't believe that a lot of them realize the seriousness of it as far as breaking into the building," Teaneck Sgt. John Garland told The Associated Press. "That's a burglary and I don't think they understand that. It's a very serious offense."

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights on Thursday released a list of 55 colleges and universities under investigation for possible Title IX violations over the handling of sexual violence and harassment complaints.
Colleges and universities, in addition to K-12 schools, that receive federal funding must comply with Title IX, a federal law demanding that students should not be denied the ability to participate fully in educational and other opportunities due to sex.

DEFENDANTS WHO FAIL TO COME TO COURT BURDEN MARYLAND JUDICIAL SYSTEM
The majority of the initial charges where defendants failed to appear in court were drug-related, according to records obtained by Capital News Service through a Maryland Public Information Act request. There were more than 10,090 drug-related charges.
There were nearly 7,500 theft charges among the initial cases.
Other initial charges included littering, selling unpackaged cigarettes, animal cruelty and violation of protective orders.

Republican Candidates For Governor To Debate On WBAL This Weekend; Democrats Set Debate Schedule

WBAL's Jimmy Mathis says Larry Hogan, David Craig, Ron George and Charles Lollar will all appear in studio for a one hour debate Saturday morning starting at 8:30, during Mathiss weekly talk show on WBAL.
WBAL-TV is working with Maryland Public Television to jointly produce a debate among the Republican candidates in early June. A date is still being determined.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are planning three debates.

White male, 5'6" to 5'8" tall, 130-140 lbs., 30-35 years old.

Wilmington – Robbery detectives are asking the public for help identifying a man responsible for three bank robberies and an attempted bank robbery.
The first robbery occurred on March 10 at 9:06 a.m. when a white male suspect entered the M&T Bank in the Astro Shopping Center and presented a demand note to two female tellers. The tellers complied with the suspect's demands and turned over cash. The suspect then fled.
On April 18 at 11:20 a.m. the same suspect entered the PNC Bank, 4725 Kirkwood Highway, and presented a demand note to a teller. The suspect fled before receiving any money. Shortly thereafter he entered the Delaware First Federal Credit Union at 1815 Newport Gap Pike and presented a demand note to two tellers. Both tellers complied, turning over cash, and the suspect fled.
The fourth incident occurred yesterday at 11:15 a.m. when the suspect entered the PNC Bank in Greenville and demanded cash from two tellers. Both tellers complied and the suspect fled.
If anyone has any information about this suspect's identity, they are asked to contact the Troop 2 Robbery Unit at 302-365-8440. Tips can also be submitted using the Delaware State Police Mobile Crime Tip Application available to download at: http://www.delaware.gov/apps/. Joe, please post this A.S.A.P this man's name needs to be cleared, I feel awful for my part in this but as I have said before I have only ever gone by what I was told by the Police.
I have JUST received a message telling me that Erik Steinacker was NOT the man watching my child and grandchild on Easter Sunday and he does NOT live in Rustic Acres.
This was from a detective who has just viewed the report filed on Easter, he was investigated and it wasn't him.
The Police officer who told me it was him was WRONG and when he found that it was not Erik he should have done as he said he would and update us of any/ all changes, we put phone calls in last week for updates and we weren't told anything different.
The Police Officer who said he was now living in this neighborhood was also WRONG.
This is an innocent man who was wrongly accused of this particular crime and his name needs to be cleared.
I could not be sorrier for the pain and suffering my posts have inflicted on him and his family, I never intended to hurt them only protect my children and those in the community from someone that the police were telling me was responsible for watching my child and grandchild that Sunday and for loitering in a neighbors yard the previous week.

A family, as defined by the BLS, is a group of two or more people who live together and who are related by birth, adoption or marriage. In 2013, there were 80,445,000 families in the United States and in 16,127,000—or 20 percent--no one had a job.
The BLS designates a person as “employed” if “during the survey reference week” they “(a) did any work at all as paid employees; (b) worked in their own business, profession, or on their own farm; (c) or worked 15 hours or more as unpaid workers in an enterprise operated by a member of the family.”
