ANNAPOLIS-It will likely be months before Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley decides the fate of fracking in the Free State, but opponents of the natural-gas extraction process aim to keep the issue in the spotlight.
Environment Maryland, a non-profit environmental conservation organization, has issued a report which outlines the potential side effects that fracking could produce, including contaminated water, reproductive issues and air pollution problems.
Some members of the General Assembly share these concerns, including Delegate Shane Robinson, D-Montgomery.
A member of the House Environmental Matters Committee, Robinson said among the top environmental concerns associated with fracking is the emission of methane, which is more harmful to the environment than carbon dioxide.

Snooping Claims Mount Against Minnesota Cops, Government Employees
It may not rise to the level of the NSA surveillance scandal, but each week more cases alleging privacy breaches by police and government employees snooping into Minnesotans' personal driver license data without cause come to light and go to court.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety database contains personal information such as addresses, Social Security numbers and health conditions, according to court documents. The federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act protects individuals from unwarranted "lookups" or "pings" of their records and levies a penalty that dwarfs any speeding ticket -- $2,500 per violation.
Yet one newly minted case filed by 18 Wabasha County conservative activists - a state representative and two sitting county commissioners among them - ups the ante by raising accusations of prying into driver license data for political purposes.

South Carolina Man Killed By 2 Men Responding To His Craigslist Ad About Pickup
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Two men have been charged in the shooting death of a South Carolina man they met because he was selling his pickup on Craigslist, authorities said.
Jquan Margel Scott, 19, of James Island has been charged with murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to court records. Isaac R. Williams, 20, of Charleston is charged with murder and kidnapping.
The men are accused of killing William Apps, 25, of Charleston. His body was found Monday night in Mount Pleasant.
Scott had arranged to buy Apps' pickup for about $15,000 after seeing it advertised on Craigslist, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

Foreclosures Are On The Rise In Maryland, Virginia and DC
Maryland was one of 16 states that noted a jump in overall foreclosure activity compared to a year ago. The Old Line State reported a 230 percent increase in foreclosures, and was led by a 381 percent increase in foreclosures in the Baltimore area.
Virginia posted a 36 percent quarterly increase in the number of bank repossessions from a year ago, the fourth-highest jump by state in the nation.

Booker, the charismatic mayor of Newark, faces conservative activist Steve Lonegan in the Oct. 16 special election to finish the term of Frank Lautenberg, who died in June. While Booker is still considered a heavy favorite, a 35-point lead he held just two months ago has dwindled to 12 points, according to recent polls. Political observers say it is common for a race to tighten as election day approaches, but that doesn't completely explain a Tea Party favorite closing the gap on Booker in a state that voted overwhelmingly for President Obama.
“My sense is that the numbers reflect complacency in the Booker campaign,” Ross Baker, a political science professor at Rutgers University, told FoxNews.com. “The Booker people wrote off Lonegan as a right-wing crank and small-town mayor. Booker was on the fast track to election, and there was a growing realization that he saw the race wrapped up and that’s always a mistake.
“It’s one thing to be confident. It’s another to be complacent.”

In the art of propaganda, and in the daily business of public relations, a cardinal rule is that if a problem emerges, it must be managed immediately. The trick is to quickly acknowledge and gain control of the new material, mitigating the damage by redirecting it in a beneficial way. This is known in tradecraft as “block and bridge.”
Thus it was that the first and only Bush family acknowledgment of where Poppy Bush was on that red-letter day came in classic form – from the wife, in the most innocuous swathing. The venue was in her 1994 book, Barbara Bush: A Memoir, which was published ten months after the document’s declassification. Deep in that book, mostly a compendium of narrow-gauge, self-serving recollections, there it was: not just a recollection of the assassination, but the reproduction of an actual letter written by Barbara on the very day, at the verymoment, that Kennedy was shot. The letter has plenty of details, but it omits one important personal item from that day: Poppy’s call to the FBI; perhaps Poppy did not mention it to her?

Ocean City’s Pink Ribbon Classic series, which provides an assortment of local activities each October designed to raise awareness while garnering money for the American Cancer Society, continues tonight, with a big party.

Looks Like It’s Finally Lights Out For Lindsey Graham In South Carolina
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a thought piece about the enormous change happening in the Republican Party in an article titled: What the Ted Cruz Filibuster Really Means – It’s the End of the GOP as We Know It. That article noted the need for two of the most despicable GOP neocon Senators to be booted out of office once and for all, John McCain and Lindsey Graham. While it seems video-poker war hawk McCain may be retiring, it appears Graham plans to fight it out. It’s going to be an epic battle as he already has three contenders in the 2016 primary: Lee Bright, Nancy Mace, and Richard Cash.

Rapper Nelly is as horrified by the government shutdown as most of his fellow Americans. The musician thinks the fact that most of the government isn't operating means it has no right to expect his hard-earned cash.
The impasse might even push him into running for office, he tells VH-1.
I'm trying to campaign, since the government ain't working, we shouldn't have to pay taxes,” Nelly told VH1. "Because, you know, paying taxes is supposed to pay for the government, which in turn is not working. So if they're not working, I shouldn't have to pay taxes.”
Nelly added that, in a way, it’s worse for him because he’s rich.
“And me being in the upper echelon of the tax bracket," he said. "[I] feel that the money I could be saving over these next couple of days could be very vital to my survival.
