Texas Prison Guards To Join Inmate Lawsuit Over Sweltering Jails
Talk about unlikely bedfellows.
The union that represents Texas’ correctional officers has reportedly announced its support of lawsuits filed over the deaths of at least 14 inmates in sweltering state prisons, claiming the institutions should be cooled to relieve unbearable conditions.
Lance Lowry, president of the local American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees, said the union intends to join pending litigation, including a possible request for federal court intervention over temperatures inside prisons that purportedly reach 130 degrees on some summer days, the Austin American-Statesman reports.

NUCLEAR-POWERED USS NIMITZ CARRIER REROUTED FOR POSSIBLE SYRIA ATTACK, OFFICIALS SAY
The Nimitz strike group includes four destroyers and a cruiser and is moving west in the Arabian Sea so it can enter the eastern Mediterranean if need be. The group had not yet entered the Red Sea Sunday evening, one official told Reuters.

WND is in possession of an official document from inside the Morsi government that lends credibility to a report published in Arabic by an Egyptian newspaper in Cairo that lists the charges brought by the current military-controlled government against Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leaders.
As seen above, WND has obtained official records from the deposed Morsi government in Egypt, with signatures, documenting monthly “gifts” paid to Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Egypt by the former prime minister and foreign minister of Qatar, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani.
The document was seized from Egyptian government offices in Cairo when the Morsi government was deposed by the military July 3.
As translated by former PLO member and native Arabic-speaker Walid Shoebat, the monthly “gifts” listed in the document amount to bribes paid by the Morsi government to leading Muslim Brotherhood members in Egypt, including an annual payment of $750,000 to $850,000 in U.S. dollars.

Nyad 1st To Swim To Florida From Cuba Without Cage
The 64-year-old Nyad swam up to the beach just before 2 p.m. EDT, about 53 hours after she began her journey in Havana on Saturday. As she approached, spectators waded into waist-high water and surrounded her, taking pictures and cheering her on.

One of the core principles of good governance in society is the idea that the authority of law ought to prevail over the brute power of people — i.e., that society should operate under therule of law, not the rule of men. This principle is of great relevance in the present NSA scandals, especially in light of recent NSA admissions of “compliance problems” with the legal constraints that are supposed to operate on the agency. For ordinary citizens, “compliance problems” with the law are better known as “crimes” (or possibly civil wrongs) and these lead to judgment debts, fines, and possibly even jail time, depending on the severity of the lack-of-compliance. But for government officials such notions are irrelevant — legal compliance problems are just something you file a report about, and send to another bureaucrat higher up in the government chain, so that he can bury it on his desk.

An estimated one-fifth of a subset of all applicants for Central Intelligence Agency positions had significant ties to the terror groups Hamas, Hezbollah and al Qaeda, a newly released document from the Edward Snowden collection revealed Monday.
The document — released by Mr. Snowden as part of his National Security Agency intelligence dump — said the terrorist groups worked hard to infiltrate America’s top security agencies. CIA officials uncovered thousands of applicants, roughly one in five of a subset, with “significant terrorist and/or hostile intelligence connections,” the document states, as Ynet News reported.
The specifics of those ties were not revealed, but the groups most often cited as attempting to infiltrate the U.S. intelligence network were al Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah.

3 Arrested In Undercover Food-Stamp Sting
PHOENIX (CBS5) - Police arrested three men during an undercover food-stamp sting operation at a Phoenix convenience store Wednesday.
Kameel Sweiss, 51, and his sons, Ameer Sweis, 22, and Faday Sweis, 33, all of whom work at the K&S convenience store at 6166 N. 27th Ave., were arrested by Phoenix SWAT officers Wednesday morning and made their initial court appearances, according to a news release from the state's Attorney General's Office.
Officers raided the store and the Sweiss' Peoria home.
Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne said $550,480 in cash was found in a private bank vault, another $32,876 in cash, bank records and accounts, extraneous food stamp cards, business ledgers and three vehicles were seized in the sting operation.
"This seizure is the largest in our state's history with regard to food stamp fraud," Horne said.

Labor Day woes: US workers still worried about their jobs
Forty-three percent of Americans still fear their benefits will be cut, down slightly from 46 percent in 2009. Thirty-one percent believe their wages will be reduced, down from 32 percent in 2009.
Twenty-nine percent of Americans still believe they will be laid off, hardly changed from the 32 percent who believed the same five years ago. One quarter of Americans believe their hours will be cut back, down from 27 percent five years ago.

B&O Museum To Hold Exhibit Yard Sale
The B&O Railroad Museum is cleaning out its surplus of trains and putting thousands of items on sale in an upcoming yard sale.
The museum is putting its little treasures up for sale in its round house on Sept. 7.
"It's one of those things where, when they come off exhibit, what do you do with them? You put them in storage. The reality is they don't see the light of day again, so this is a great opportunity for us to clear out some space and for people to get some memories themselves," explained museum Chief Curator Dave Shackelford.
