House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa has demanded that former Internal Revenue Service (IRS) official Lois Lerner, a key figure in the IRS targeting scandal, give the committee any emails from her personal account that she might have used to conduct official business.
Issa sent a letter Tuesday stating that the committee's investigation of the issue has shown that Lerner sent some official documents to her personal email address, The Hill reports.
That "raises concerns" about whether the committee can thoroughly ascertain Lerner's role in the targeting affair merely from official emails, Issa said in the letter that was also signed by Ohio GOP Rep. Jim Jordan, chairman of the Oversight subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs.

O’Malley To Announce Replacement Of 81-Year-Old Dover Bridge On Eastern Shore
Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) planned to announce on Friday a $50 million commitment to replace the Dover Bridge, an 81-year-old swing-span structure on Maryland’s Eastern Shore that has become a symbol of the state’s inability to fund its transportation needs.
The existing bridge across the Choptank River just outside Easton has long been prone to mechanical malfunctions, resulting in colossal traffic backups. Despite strong support for replacing the bridge among local lawmakers, the project stalled under O’Malley and two previous governors.
“I’ve been fighting for a new Dover Bridge since 1994,” said state Sen. Richard F. Colburn (R-Dorchester), one of several lawmakers briefed about O’Malley’s plans to move forward with a replacement. “I couldn’t be more ecstatic.”

21 Facts About America's Surging Government Dependence
The percentage of Americans that are economically independent has dropped to a stunningly low level. In order to be economically independent, you have got to be able to take care of yourself without any assistance from anyone else. Unless you are independently wealthy, that means that you either have your own business or you have a full-time job. Unfortunately, as you will see below, the percentage of Americans that are self-employed is at an all-time record low and the percentage of Americans with a full-time job has declined to a level not seen in about 30 years. As a result, more Americans than ever find themselves forced to turn to the government for assistance.
When you add it all up, about half of all Americans get money from the government each month these days. And yes, there will always be poor people that cannot take care of themselves that need help, but when you have more than half of the population dependent on the government that is a major problem. You see, the truth is that our independence is systematically being taken away from us and we are steadily being made serfs of the state. And once you become a serf of the state, it is very hard to resist anything the government is doing in a meaningful way. After all, the money that you are getting from the government is enabling you to survive. In essence, your allegiance has been at least partially purchased and you may not even realize it.

275% Change In Foreclosure Rates In Maryland
While housing markets across the country are recovering from the deepest throes of the foreclosure crisis, others are just stumbling into it -- and they aren't exactly the places you'd expect.
States like Maryland, Oregon and New Jersey, which maintained relatively stable markets after the housing bubble popped, saw new foreclosure filings climb by double- and triple-digit percentages in July, according to RealtyTrac.
In Maryland, for example, new foreclosure filings skyrocketed 275% compared with a year earlier. When it came to overall foreclosure activity, including default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, the state had the second highest foreclosure rate in the nation, after default-riddled Florida.

The Blow That Killed America 100 Years Ago
“There is a lot of ruin in a nation,” wrote Adam Smith. His point was that it takes a long time for nations to fall, even when they’re dead on their feet. And he was certainly right.
America took its fatal blow in 1913, one hundred years ago; it just hasn’t hit the ground yet. This is a slow process, but it’s actually fast compared to the Romans. It took them several centuries to collapse.
The confusing thing about our current situation is that America – and by that I mean the noble America that so many of us grew up believing was real – has long been poisoned. Its liver, kidneys, and spleen have all stopped functioning. Its heart beats slowly and irregularly. But it still stands on its feet and presents itself as alive to all those who would let their eyes fool them.
And I’m not without sympathy for those who want to believe. They find themselves in a world wherepolitics is almighty, and where their comfort, prosperity, and perhaps their survival all hang in a delicate balance. They don’t want to upset anything, and questioning the bosses is a good way to get yelled at.
But just because someone wants to believe doesn’t make it so. We are not children and we are not powerless. We Producers should never be intimidated by those who live at our expense. So let’s start looking at the facts.

Maryland-Developed ‘Cube’ Promises Weather-Resistant Low Cost Electricity
A decade ago, on Aug. 14, 2003, an estimated 45 million Americans in the northeastern United States temporarily lost power. More recently, in October 2012, about 8.5 million Americans lost power in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. A new device now promises to provide affordable environmentally-friendly protection against devastating power outages.
The PowerSERG 2-80, also known as the Cube, is expected to reach the market in 2014, developers announced today. Just slightly larger than a dishwasher and running off a minimal amount of natural gas, the first edition of the Cube will generate 25 kW at about one-tenth the cost and one-tenth the size of current commercial fuel cell systems. Unlike traditional generators, it can power a home, business or machine 24/7, not just during an outage. It was developed by Redox Power Systems, a Maryland company founded to commercialize fuel cell technology developed by Professor Eric Wachsman of the University of Maryland Energy Research Center (UMERC), according to a University of Maryland and Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute news release.

Meet The Meshnet: A New Wave Of Decentralized Internet Access
Across the US, from Maryland to Seattle, work is underway to construct user-owned wireless networks that will permit secure communication without surveillance or any centralized organization. They are known as meshnets and ultimately, if their designers get their way, they will span the country.
- From the New Scientist article, Let’s Start the Net Again
In the wake of the NSA spy revelations, many people have become disillusioned or despondent regarding the seemingly unstoppable pervasiveness of the surveillance state. I am not one of those people. As James Baldwin famously stated: “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

U.S. Postal Service Revamps Priority Mail Program
WASHINGTON (AP) — The financially struggling U.S. Postal Service is revamping its priority mail program as part of its efforts to raise revenue and drive new growth in its package delivery business.
The agency is now offering free online tracking for priority mail shipments, free insurance and date-specific delivery so customers know if a package will arrive in one, two or three days.
Postal officials say they expect the changes to generate more than a half-billion dollars in new revenue annually. The changes — including redesigned boxes and envelopes — are effective immediately.

THE GRUESOME STORY OF A MURDERED TENNESSEE COUPLE YOU MAY HAVE NEVER HEARD – BUT THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET
After a radio caller made him aware of the extremely disturbing story of Christopher Newsom and Channon Christian in Knoxville, Tenn., Glenn Beck researched the case and was horrified at what he found.
Though the details are hard to hear, Beck told the couple’s story in excruciating detail during his show on TheBlaze TV Tuesday. The killings occurred in 2007; however, Beck says the media failed to give the case adequate coverage due to special interests or negligence.
Newsom, 23, was a standout baseball player who was working as a carpenter. Christian was a 21-year-old student at the University of Tennessee. The happy couple had been dating for a couple months.

OBAMA IS A ‘SNAKE’ AND ‘WE HAVE TO TURN ON HIM’ SAYS…
Film director Oliver Stone—who has made no secret of his liberal political views—called President Barack Obama a “snake” for his role in National Security Agency spying programs that have become, he said, more about silencing protestors than finding terrorists.
“Obama is a snake,” Stone told an audience in Tokyo on Monday. “He’s a snake. And we have to turn on him.”

CARSON: Can You Trust Anybody Anymore?
When babies are born, they have little choice but to trust their caregivers, who are usually the parents. As they mature and are able to distinguish one person from another, they tend to show great preference for the parents with whom they have bonded. A trusting relationship develops that should remain intact throughout life, barring violation of that trust. Unfortunately, in some cases, the baby or young child suffers abandonment, abuse or some other form of emotional injury, and the trust is violated. Often the relational rupture cannot be repaired or requires extensive explanations and alteration of behavior to heal.
Relationships between the masses of people in the governing bodies can also be healthy or fractured. For decades in America, a guaranteed laugh line was, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.” As things exist now in our country, the situation has deteriorated to the point where this is no longer funny.

We Can’t Wait … To Nominate Another Lobbyist
"John McCain can't see or won't acknowledge what's obvious to all of us here today -- that lobbyists aren't just part of the system in Washington, they're part of the problem."

President Obama wants to place a new tax on your monthly cell phone bill to pay for his plan to put WiFi in more classrooms. And all he needs to do it is one more lobbyist in his administration.

Legislative Watch Website Provides Voting Records For Assembly Members
The website, Maryland Legislative Watch, has released newly aggregatedvoting records for each delegate and senator in the General Assembly. Previously, those votes were not available by member, said founder and coordinator Elizabeth Myers.
The website is not a formal organization, but is a project of Myers’ to highlight bad bills in the General Assembly that the group believes are antithetical to the Maryland Declaration of Rights, raise fees or taxes, or create new crimes, she said.
Myers lives in Anne Arundel County and sought help from volunteers to create an IT process to aggregate the votes.

Defended Murderers And Pedophiles? New ICE Boss' Background Called Into Question
The acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement is a former criminal defense attorney who represented accused and convicted murderers, sex offenders and pedophiles and fought for the release of violent convicted offenders -- a background some critics say makes him a less than ideal choice to lead the federal government's second-largest law enforcement agency.
John Sandweg, 38, who was recently named acting director of ICE, worked between 2002 and 2009 defending violent criminals in Arizona, and helping then-governor and current Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano raise campaign funds. Critics questioned Sandweg's credentials, with one calling him “in no way qualified” and his appointment the latest example of Napolitano's "blatant politicization" of the agency.

OBAMACARE EXEMPTION: NONE DARE CALL IT TREASON
WASHINGTON -- Even by the standards of Washington, this is one sick, twisted and deceitful deal. Quite possibly, it is a whole new low, even for the federal government.
Had we innocent, taxpaying citizens not long ago lost our capacity to be outraged by the disgraceful manner in which this place operates, we would already be in all-out political revolt. Against President Obama. Against Democrats in Congress. And, especially, Republicans.
Literally, revolutionary wars have been fought over less.

San Diego Hooters restaurants are laying down the law when it comes to their clientele.
