AP Twitter Hack Causes Panic On Wall Street And Sends Dow Plunging

Wall Street collided with social media on Tuesday, when a false tweet from a trusted news organization sent the US stock market into freefall.

The 143-point fall in the Dow Jones industrial average came after hackers sent a message from the Twitter feed of the Associated Press, saying the White House had been hit by two explosions and that Barack Obama was injured. The fake tweet, which was immediately corrected by Associated Press employees, caused a sensation on Twitter and in the stock market.

White House officials were unimpressed. An AP reporter apologized for the Twitter hacking at the start of the daily White House press briefing, saying the tweet had been deleted as soon as it was discovered. A stoney-faced Jay Carney, Obama's personal spokesman, thanked the reporter but did not look amused. "The president is fine. I was just with him," added Carney.

LIAR IN CHIEF

President Barack Obama stood outside the White House last week and lamented the defeat of the expanded background check bill in the Senate. He stood there, repeating over and over how 90 percent of all Americans wanted such a law and how it wouldn’t have infringed on the rights of a single American. He called the pro-gun lobby liars for calling it registration.

Mr. President, you are the liar!

Obama can say that the bill outlawed a registry, but to what effect? Congress passes and overrides laws all the time. He knows this. Anyone with a single course in civics knows this as well. To tout this as proof that there will never be a registry is disingenuous at best…and with this president, I don’t see the best.

You see, when a paper trail is put in place for every gun purchase, or even a huge majority of them, you have created a de facto registry. Oh, I understand that it’s held at the gun stores, but for how long? No one said that this bill created a registry, but we knew it would make a registry just that much easier.

President Obama argues that if 90 percent of Americans support expanded background checks, it should go through. However, that number is based on a single question that left the interpretation open to the person being polled. Some would think it just means expanding the process to make sure the mentally ill can’t purchase guns. For others, it’s complete registration. There’s a lot of wiggle in there.

JANET NAPOLITANO’S MAJOR ADMISSION: SAUDI STUDENT WAS PUT ON WATCHLIST

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano admitted Tuesday that a Saudi national once identified as a “person of interest” in the Boston Marathon bombings was put on a terror watchlist after the attack.

Last week, she refused to answer any questions about the Saudi, calling South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan’s inquiry “so full of misstatements and misapprehension that it’s just not worthy of an answer.”

The reason I have opened up this first paragraph by constantly referring to a PAPER gold and silver price slam instead of a PHYSICAL gold and silver price slam is because massive premiums exist on physical silver and significant premiums exist on physical gold over spot prices of gold and silver. For all intents and purposes, the spot price is equivalent to the fake banker engineered price that cavorts across the ticker on your television everyday. But go to a dealer and try to buy at that ticker price and you will discover that it is a delusional fake price that no dealer is willing to kindly grant you. Instead, when I checked prices on 1-troy ounce American Eagle coins on Apmex last week, there was a 5.8% premium on gold coins and when the spot silver price had fallen to $22.99 an ounce earlier in Asia last week, Apmex was still listing their 1-oz American Eagles at $29.01, a whopping 26.2% higher than the spot price. Only a complete buffoon of economics, like Paul Krugman and his zombie followers, would ever believe that the price of real silver was $22.99 at any point and time last week.

Help For Texas Town Pours In From Around The County

WASHINGTON - Firefighters from around the country are stepping up to help the families of the 10 firefighters killed in the massive fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation will provide both short and long-term resources for the families, says foundation Director Ron Siarnicki.

"We will help them deal with things like home repairs, and help them understand some of the elements of financial planning. Because often times, when a death occurs, the primary bread winner for the family is gone," Siarnicki says.

There's really no other word that would accurately describe the behavior of the many agencies that stormed through Boston and its suburbs this week. Thousands of State and local police, sheriff’s deputies, FBI SWAT employees, Homeland Security Shock Troops, and National Guard soldiers conducted a massive search – virtually none of it in compliance with the 4th Amendment – in search of a single teenager. They practically ordered an entire city "locked down" and were presumably prepared to begin arresting residents who refused to comply with what amounted to martial law.

Now, just for a moment consider what the effective lock down means. As Charles W. Johnson presented the situation on Facebook, lockdown is "from the vocabulary of prison wardens, referring to a condition in which inmates are temporarily completely restricted in their movements and confined to their cells, in order to allow prison guards to conduct searches or contain and control what the inmates are doing." He then asks these two questions: "If the police have the power to put a city 'on lockdown,' then what does that make the city? And what does it make the innocent people living in it?" Well, it would make the city a prisons and the residents would be inmates, naturally.

Now, had the search not ended as early as it did, one question that seems appropriate is, "what about the 3rd Amendment?" Perhaps the least-addressed of all the amendments in the bill of rights, it's no less relevant to the situation. While it refers specifically to soldiers, little distinction exists in light of these two photographs. The individual on the left is, according to the source, a member of the FBI, who helped in the search. The individual on the right is a soldier in Afghanistan. Note the similarities in the uniform, the equipment, and the weapons. Whatever legal differences exist between the military and civilian law enforcement are at this point irrelevant.

US Hospitals Send Hundreds Of Immigrants Back Home

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Days after they were badly hurt in a car accident, Jacinto Cruz and Jose Rodriguez-Saldana lay unconscious in an Iowa hospital while the American health care system weighed what to do with the two immigrants from Mexico.

The men had health insurance from jobs at one of the nation's largest pork producers. But neither had legal permission to live in the U.S., nor was it clear whether their insurance would pay for the long-term rehabilitation they needed.

So Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines took matters into its own hands: After consulting with the patients' families, it quietly loaded the two comatose men onto a private jet that flew them back to Mexico, effectively deporting them without consulting any court or federal agency.

Just Say No . . . To Cops

Few of us like to interact with cops – like scabies, they are best avoided entirely. But when do you have a choice – and when don’t you have a choice about interacting with a costumed enforcer? When are you legally required to identify yourself? To produce ID? Laws vary, state to state, but here are some general things to know:
* The (so-called) “consensual” interaction -

This generally applies to pedestrians and so on – people out in public, but not operating a motor vehicle.

A cop may – like anyone else – approach you at any time and ask you questions. He is not required to have “reasonable suspicion” a crime has been committed – much less “probable cause” suggesting that a crime has been committed.

Most people – because they have been taught to defer to people wearing state-issued costumes – will answer a cop’s questions, even though they would rather not – and probably would not have, if the person asking were just an ordinary citizen as opposed to a costumed enforcer. They feel pressured. Some will show their IDs, if asked – and even grant permission to let the cop rifle through their possessions.

2nd Child Of Pa. Couple Dies After Only Praying

A couple serving probation for the 2009 death of their toddler after they turned to prayer instead of a doctor could face new charges now that another son has died.

Herbert and Catherine Schaible belong to a fundamentalist Christian church that believes in faith healing. They lost their 8-month-old son, Brandon, last week after he suffered from diarrhea and breathing problems for at least a week, and stopped eating. Four years ago, another son died from bacterial pneumonia.

Prosecutors said Tuesday that a decision on charges will be made after they get the results of an autopsy.

Run To Remember Memorial Day 5K Scheduled For May 27

Inaugural Event to be held at Wicomico Youth & Civic Center

(Salisbury, MD) The inaugural Run to Remember Memorial Day 5K will be held on Monday, May 27 at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center to honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The 5K will begin at 8:15am and will be followed by the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 10:00am.

Proceeds from the 5K will benefit the Wicomico War Veterans Memorial located in front of the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. The Memorial was erected in 2003 to honor Wicomico County citizens who paid the ultimate price while serving in the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines and Merchant Marines beginning with World War I to present day.

Register for the 5K by Friday, May 10 to receive a commemorative race t-shirt. Entry fees for early registration are $20 per person and $15 for Military (must register in person and present Military ID). On-site registration will also be held the day of the race for $25 per person. Check-in begins at 7:00am and the race begins promptly at 8:15am, followed by the awards presentation at 9:00am. Participants are encouraged to stay for the Memorial Day Ceremony after the race.

Some Charges Dropped Against Abortion Doctor

It took the prosecution five weeks to present their case against West Philly abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell and it took defense attorney Jack McMahon a couple of hours to knock a big hole through a critical part of their argument.

Three first-degree murder charges were dropped against Gosnell after McMahon argued that "there is not one piece...of objective, scientific evidence that anyone was born alive" at Gosnell's clinic.

Prosecutors have argued that the babies were viable and that Gosnell and his staff cut them in the back of the neck to kill them.

Ravens’ Flacco Works To Help OC Accident Victim’s Memorial Fund

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco spent much of last Friday afternoon working behind the counter of a Baltimore area Dairy Queen to raise $25,000 for a memorial fund on behalf of a pedestrian killed by a drunk driver in Ocean City last Memorial Day weekend.

Flacco was looking to raise money for a memorial fund in the name of Matthew Jude Cheswick, a 2008 Glenelg High School graduate and Towson University student who was struck and killed by a drunk driver on Coastal Highway on May 28, 2012. Flacco spent Friday afternoon working at the Dairy Queen in Rosedale and teamed up with DQ to raise and donate $25,000 to the Matthew Cheswick Memorial Fund.

The money raised by the fund will be used in numerous ways including scholarships for Glenelg High students who best exemplify Cheswick’s spirit and to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving. A portion of the funds raised will also be used for a memorial bench in Cheswick’s name on the Boardwalk in Ocean City.

University of Maryland Makes Connections Abroad

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The University of Maryland has signed a new agreement that establishes the school's first formal reciprocal student exchange program with the University of Jordan.

The agreement was signed on Monday during a visit to Jordan by Gov. Martin O'Malley and University of Maryland President Wallace D. Loh.

Officials say that Maryland is the second largest U.S. import market by volume for Jordan, and that Jordan is the 63rd largest export market for Maryland.

GOVERNOR O’MALLEY MEETS WITH REGENT, ADDRESSES BUSINESS LEADERS IN VISIT TO JORDAN

ANNAPOLIS, MD – As part of a weeklong economic development mission to Israel and Jordan, Governor Martin O’Malley traveled to Amman, Jordan to meet with the Regent, HRH Prince Faisal bin Al-Hussein. The mission marks the Governor’s first to Jordan, where he hopes to open new avenues for trade and investment. Following the meeting, the Governor toured Amman – Jordan’s capital and largest city – then met with the U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Jordan Stephanie Williams, who hosted a reception where the Governor addressed Jordanian business leaders.

The agreement establishes UMD’s first formal reciprocal student exchange program with Jordan’s oldest and largest university, and is among College Park’s first such accords in the Middle East.

Throughout this trip we are discovering how our maturing international networks increase our impact and effectiveness for the State of Maryland.”

Maryland is continuing to grow its business and economic relationship with Jordan. While Maryland is the second largest U.S. import market by volume for Jordan, Jordan is 63rd largest export market for Maryland. In 2012, Maryland exports to Jordan totaled $17 million, with vehicles, used or second hand merchandise and machinery and chemicals as the top exports.

In addition to being a large import market for Jordan, Maryland is also home to the Governor’s Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs, which Governor O’Malley created in 2007 to effectively address the concerns of the Middle Eastern American community. Maryland also has the Middle East American Chamber of Commerce (MACC), which helps to bring together entrepreneurs and professionals from the Middle East. Their objectives are to create jobs in Maryland, advocate for small businesses in Maryland, improve the relationship between Maryland and Middle-East countries, maintain communication about opportunities and legislation on a regular basis, and create opportunities to empower Middle East American businesses and professionals.

The O’Malley-Brown Administration has taken significant steps to ramp up the State’s international outreach. In 2011, the Governor led two historic economic development missions – one to China, South Korea and Vietnam and one to India – that netted a combined $145 million in trade and investment deals for the State and the companies that were part of the delegation. Subsequently, several delegations from those countries have visited Maryland in recent months, resulting in additional partnerships and deals for Maryland companies. 

Juveniles Charged For Making 'Soda Bottle Bombs'

Deputy State Fire Marshals say they have charged three juveniles with making and detonating chemical reaction devices, 'soda bottle bombs,' on a school's property.

The two thirteen-year-olds and one twelve-year-old were all charged with six counts of manufacture, possession and use of a destructive device. They were also charged with six counts of reckless endangerment.

According to an investigation conducted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Bel Air Police Department, the boys made and detonated the devices at Harford Day School located at 715 Moores Mill Road in Bel Air around 5:00 p.m. last Friday.

West Texas Explosion

Nearly 70 federal and state investigators are in west Texas trying to determine what caused a fertilizer plant to explode there last week. Robert champion, the ATF special agent in charge of the Dallas field office, said it will be a slow process. The blast left a large crater in the small town. Experts will enter it within the next few days and start digging. So far, they do not suspect anyone set off the explosion on purpose. The U.S. Chemical Safety Board postponed a meeting in Washington this week to send staff to the small Texas town.

7-YEAR MANHUNT FOR HOMICIDE SUSPECT OVER

WILMINGTON, DE – The Delaware State Police and United States Marshals announce the arrest of a suspect wanted on a two-count indictment charging him with murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. 

Miguel H. Aramiz was arrested Wednesday in Tenancingo, Mexico, by agents from the Policia Federal Ministerial, based upon the issuance of a Provisional Arrest Warrant which seeks his extradition to the United States. 

Aramiz, 34, had been sought since March 2006 for his alleged involvement in the beating death of another man at a crowded carnival in the Canby Park Shopping Center. Aramiz was indicted on charges that he and others chased the victim through a crowded carnival and then beat the victim with a baseball bat in open view of carnival patrons. 

During the seven-year manhunt, leads were developed and investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Delaware State Police. Aramiz had also been featured in a gang segment of “America’s Most Wanted” in early spring 2010. 

“The arrest of Aramiz is a result of the coordinated investigative efforts of the U.S. Marshals and Delaware Troopers.” said Sergeant Paul G. Shavack, Director of Public Information for the Delaware State Police, “These cooperative efforts ensure that fugitives who choose to leave Delaware and United States to avoid prosecution, will be located and brought to justice.”
