Mine Owner Flouted Safety Rules Before Disaster, U.S. Says

(CNN) -- The operators of West Virginia's Upper Big Branch coal mine dodged federal safety rules and hid violations before the April 2010 explosion that killed 29 men, a scathing report on the disaster concluded Tuesday.
The immediate cause of the blast was a methane ignition that set off a massive coal-dust explosion, the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration stated in a report issued Tuesday afternoon. But the agency found the "unlawful policies and practices" of Massey Energy and its subsidiary, Performance Coal Company, laid the foundation for the disaster.

A Brooke Mulford Update 12-7-11

It is scan time again! The past 3 months have flown by and here we are again at CHOP waiting to have her CT scan done. Brooke just started drinking the contrast. Once she is done with the first 16 oz. bottle then she will have to wait 2 hours and drink another one. During that time she will have an IV placed in her hand for the scan and they will also draw her labs from it. The CT scan is scheduled for 12:30 but I don’t think we will start on time because it takes her so long to drink the contrast. She is scheduled to have her MIBG injection at 1:30. After we get out of CHOP today we will head to Grammy’s to celebrate cousin Chelsea’s 19th (I think) birthday.

Tomorrow it’s back to CHOP again for her MIBG scan at 10:00am, Echocardiogram at 11:30 and Oncology clinic at 3:00pm. We will get the results of the CT and MIBG scans at clinic so I will try to post again before we leave the hospital.

Please pray that her scans are all clear and that the issues they saw on her last Echo are no longer present.

Oh, and don’t forget to watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition this Friday at 8:00-10pm on ABC to see the Johnson/Goslee family of Mardela Springs, MD get an amazing new home. You might catch a glimpse of me under the tent helping out and Brooke during the “Move that bus”. It was such a cool experience and we met so many wonderful people. Here's a link to a short video I made from the build http://youtu.be/gU014hRa9hc

Also, Cooking with Brooke for a Cure cookbooks are now available at Market Street Inn and the offices at Salisbury Christian School as well as Headquarters Hair Salon on Haddon Ave in Westmont, NJ. Cookbooks are $12 and all proceeds go to The Brooke Mulford Foundation for NB research at CHOP. If you would like one and would need it shipped to you contact me at amy.mulford@yahoo.com with how many you would like and your address and I will calculate the total with shipping. Checks can be made out to The Brooke Mulford Foundation.

Thank you for your prayers!

Brief Glitch Let Facebook Users See Private Photos

(CNN) -- What's been described as a bug in some new computer code briefly allowed Facebook users to snoop on the private pictures of other members.
The glitch, which Facebook discovered Tuesday, was part of the site's tool that lets users report offensive contents. Clicking on a user's profile picture, then reporting it to Facebook as containing nudity or other inappropriate content, was then prompting Facebook to show other photos from that user's account and asking whether they, too, were offensive.

Obama: U.S. To Consider Treatment Of Gays In Foreign Aid

The United States will begin considering how countries treat gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender citizens when allocating foreign aid, President Obama announced today.

"I am deeply concerned by the violence and discrimination targeting LGBT persons around the world," Obama said in a memorandum. "Whether it is passing laws that criminalize LGBT status, beating citizens simply for joining peaceful LGBT pride celebrations or killing men, women and children for their perceived sexual orientation."

Celebs And Officials Collect Emergency Water For Hydro-Fracking Victims In Pennsylvania

Actor Mark Ruffalo and film director Josh Fox denounced a controversial form of gas drilling this morning at New York's City Hall, where they collected water to bring to 11 Pennsylvania families whose tap water is flammable.

Their well water has been contaminated since 2008, when the Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. leased their land to use for hydraulic fracturing, or hydro-fracking.

Justice Department Warns Alabama Law Enforcers On Immigration

The Justice Department has sent a letter to dozens of local law enforcement agencies in Alabama that receive federal money, warning them that they risk losing that funding if they're not careful in how they enforce the state's tough new immigration law.

The Obama administration has already sued the state, claiming that the law is unconstitutional. Now it's keeping the pressure on by addressing how the law is carried out.

12-Year-Old Murder Suspect To Be Charged As Adult, Plea Deal Unlikely

(CBS) JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Twelve-year-old Cristian Fernandez will be tried as an adult, and is unlikely to get a plea deal for the murder of his two-year old brother.

CBS Miami reports prosecutors believe that in March 2011, Fernandez acted with premeditation when he violently pushed his brother into a bookcase and beat him while his mother was out. The two-year-old victim died two days later from a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain.

Fernandez is the youngest person ever charged with first degree murder in Jacksonville.

Herbert Hoover's Secret History Of FDR And Pearl Harbor

On Dec. 8, 1941, Franklin Roosevelt took the rostrum before a joint session of Congress to ask for a declaration of war on Japan.

A day earlier, at dawn, carrier-based Japanese aircraft had launched a sneak attack devastating the U.S. battle fleet at Pearl Harbor.

Said ex-President Herbert Hoover, Republican statesman of the day, “We have only one job to do now, and that is to defeat Japan.”

But to friends, “the Chief” sent another message: “You and I know that this continuous putting pins in rattlesnakes finally got this country bit.”

Today, 70 years after Pearl Harbor, a remarkable secret history, written from 1943 to 1963, has come to light. It is Hoover’s explanation of what happened before, during and after the world war that may prove yet the death knell of the West.

John Hall Sworn In, Joe Holloway President, Matt Holloway Vice President

In a very enjoyable County Council Meeting, John Hall was sworn in to fill the seat of the late Bob Caldwell.

Joe Holloway was nominated to become the new Council President and Matt Holloway was nominated to become Vice President. Both were unanimously elected.

As the meeting went on and as many are seeing RIGHT NOW on PAC 14, Rick Pollitt has sent in his supporters on the Bennett Middle School construction or the hope thereof.

What ALL of you do NOT know is that County Executive Rick Pollitt has gone to the County Council and asked that Bennett Middle School construction project be brought back up on the agenda.

Now, he has also stated that IF they do NOT place it on the agenda, he will go to the State and attempt to bypass the County Council. THIS is why you're seeing people come out of nowhere to try and shame the Council into bringing it up again, knowing the County cannot afford it in any way, shape or form.

Congratulations Mr. Hall. There was an incredible field of qualified citizens being considered for this seat and I, for one, believe the Council made the right choice.

Sharee Sample Hughes Has Brain Fart During Council Meeting

Well, that's what we call it. I believe she stated that she had a mental lapse and wanted the public to know that she does NOT support Joe Holloway for Council President.

Hmmmmm, let's see... Sharee Sample Hughes has what level of education vs. Joe Holloway, yet he's Council President and she's never even been nominated!

Sharee went off months ago stating that ALL Council Members must at least have graduated High School. You see Folks, Joe Holloway NOR Joe Albero ever graduated from High School. Instead, we moved on with our lives, (some to help support our FAMILIES) and became extremely successful businessmen.

It's a piece of paper Sharee. It does NOT make you a better person. Some people have book smarts and some of us are what they call, street smarts. In my case, I retired at 40 years old. Nevermind, you get my drift. If ANYONE is a racist, well, I'll just leave it at that.

Sharee Sample Hughes needs to get out of politics. Congratulations Joe and Matt Holloway. Oh, by the way, they are not related.
