The poultry industry employees almost 15,000 here on the Eastern Shore and buys over a billion dollars of our goods and services. Bill Satterfired, the Chief Executive of the Delmarva Poultry Industry will speak to AFP Wicomico on June 23 at 7PM at Brew River. We have asked him to speak about the job challenges facing the industry.
The problem stems from some of our own elected Maryland officials, as well as unnamed, self-important bureaucrats, stuffed away in the miles of corridors of bureaucracy drawing salaries 40% or larger than ours.
We are also conducting a job interview for Joe Ollinger, GOP hopeful for Wicomico County Executive. Please check him out here and come prepared to ask him the questions relevant to your concerns for Wicomico county and our budget issues.

Lost Dog UPDATE: REUNITED
Dear Joe,HI my name is Joyce. My dog Vinnie has been missing from our house on Rayne Rd in Willards MD since last night. If anyone has seen him PLEASE call me at 410-603-4379. Vinnie is a 10yr old great dane. As seen in the picture he is a very large dog and is very sweet.
Vinnie is my sons best friend. Vinnie was wearing a red collar when we last seen him. Please if anyone has any information please call us we are worried sick about him.

Republican Candidate To File Against Cane
Dustin Mills, a local educator and citizen activist, has today announced his intention to run against Delegate Rudy Cane in District 37A. Mills, stating that change is needed in Annapolis, believes he brings a different perspective. “As someone who has spent most of his life in the workforce, I am not a career politician and believe that a Delegate should represent the District, not the wayward leadership in Annapolis,” he stated.
Mills cites the economy as one his most significant issues: “As the state budget continues to grow yet revenues dwindle, we are faced with difficult decisions. Instead of raising the tax burden on our citizens and businesses, we should look at cutting government spending and supporting programs that foster job creation, helping bring money to the local economies.”
“Martin O’Malley and his supporters have driven this state into significant debt and have forced local counties and municipalities to make unnecessary difficult decisions. Delegate Cane has done nothing to fight the downward spiral of this State; they have forgotten the Shore and its people. We need someone in Annapolis who will represent the great people of Delmarva and not the special interests of liberal PACs and radical Democratic lobbyists,” says Mills.
Some specific examples of Mills’ plan include rolling back the Maryland sales tax in order to make Maryland businesses competitive again, as well as cutting the corporate tax to help recruit quality employers and businesses. “We have too many people out of work here on the Shore. The government owes it to the people to do everything in its power to help them find quality employment.”
Mills moved to the Shore over 5 years ago, and while he acknowledges that he is not a native to Delmarva, he has adopted it and feels at home. “Moving here to attend college was the best decision I have ever made. I fell in love with the Shore and its people and have chosen to make this my home. The traditional values of Delmarva are something I also cherish and believe they deserve quality representation in the State House.”
“Traditional values, integrity and effective leadership are tenants of my campaign. I believe that the people of Delmarva want someone who believes the same way they do and someone who will represent them up in Annapolis,” stated Mills. “I look forward to a great campaign about issues and look forward to quality debate with Delegate Cane.”

Found Dog Off Old OC Rd. & Zion Church Rd.
This dog was found at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 21, 2010, wandering in the road at the intersection of Old Ocean City Road and Zion Church Road.
Since Animal Control and the Human Society are closed on Monday, I have taken the dog to my house until I can either each Animal Control, find the owner, or figure out some suitable resolution.
I have four dogs of my own so I won't be able to keep this dog at my house very long.

Narrative: On 18 June 2010 at 12:00 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office investigated the theft of a moped from the lot of MacMillian Brothers on Snow Hill Road in Salisbury. Investigation revealed that on the previous day store management discovered a moped missing from their inventory that was on the lot for sale. Review of the surveillance system revealed a white Ford Van pulled up to the building, a white male exited from the passenger side, placed the moped in the rear of the van and drove away.
Attached to this press release are photos of the suspects in this case and their van.
The stolen moped is a dark blue and silver Zhejiang Summit Huawin brand 50cc.
Anyone with information about the identity of these suspects or the whereabouts of the stolen moped is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 410-548-4891

NEW YORK - Stocks extended their winning streak Monday after China said it would allow its currency to appreciate against the dollar, a move that could provide a boost for U.S. manufacturers and exporters.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose for a fifth day, adding about 90 points in midday trading. Broader indexes also climbed. Treasury prices fell after demand for safety holdings weakened.
China's trading partners complain that the country keeps its currency, the yuan, artificially low to bolster exports. At the same time, the weak currency makes imported goods expensive for consumers in China. A stronger yuan compared with the dollar should allow U.S. manufacturers and exporters to be more competitive selling their products in China, one of the world's largest and fastest-growing economies.

More Borrowers In Trouble Despite Federal Help

WASHINGTON - A growing number of homeowners who sought help from the Obama administration's main mortgage aid program are in danger of losing their homes.
The Treasury Department says about 436,000 borrowers have dropped out of the $75 billion plan as of last month. That's about 35 percent of the 1.24 million who enrolled since March 2009.
The result could be a new wave of foreclosures that could weaken the housing market and hold back the broader economic recovery.

New Jersey Naval Base Briefly Under 'Lockdown'

LAKEHURST, N.J. - Officials temporarily locked down the Naval Air Engineering Center in Lakehurst, N.J., on Monday, resulting in traffic being blocked from entering or leaving the base.
"We are no longer on lockdown," the public affairs office told NBC News. A press release with more details would be released later in the day, a spokesman said.
Media Relations Coordinator Senior Airman David Carbajal earlier told The Associated Press that there were several incidents they he could not provide any more information about.

Should restaurants make health inspection grades visible?

It's a Saturday night in Washington, the Capitol rotunda is in view, and you're walking along the avenue, trying to decide where to eat.
Posted outside restaurants' windows are menus, Zagat ratings and clippings of local newspaper reviews. What's missing, says D.C. Councilwoman Mary Cheh, is information about the restaurants' sanitary conditions.
Cheh supports requiring restaurants to display a letter grade based on their most recent health department inspection. She says that now, residents must file public records requests for details on restaurant inspections.
"Surely the nation's capital, with all its restaurants, you'd think we'd be a little more progressive," she says.
