Majority Of Fuel In SU Hazmat Spill Retrieved

From: Richard Culver, Media Relations Director

Cleanup efforts on an estimated 3,000 gallons of diesel oil which leaked from a
fuel line at Henson Science Hall will continue tonight and through the weekend.
According to a representative from Miller Environmental Group, the private
contractor hired for the cleanup, an estimated 2,200-2,300 gallons have been
retrieved so far.

A major portion of diesel oil was trapped on campus in a large sediment holding
tank and in storm water drainage pipes leading into the tank. According to
Miller representatives, it now appears an estimated 300-400 gallons of diesel
fuel actually dispersed into Tony Tank Pond where the storm water outflow is
located.

At a Friday afternoon meeting, Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE)
representatives praised the University's response effort for its speed and
thoroughness. The U.S. Coast Guard, which was on the scene Thursday, has also
complimented the University for its work and cooperation..

Cleanup and recovery began late Wednesday in a partnership with the Coast Guard
and SU, MDE, the Salisbury Fire Department, Wicomico County Emergency Management
and Miller Environmental Group.

MDE and Health Department officials said drinking water and wells in the Tony
Tank neighborhood were not threatened.

Fire Fighters announce endorsements for upcoming City election

The Salisbury Career Fire Fighters Association (SCFFA) would like to announce our endorsement of Jim Ireton for Mayor of Salisbury, as well as Debbie Campbell and Cynthia Polk for City Council in their respective Districts.

Jim Ireton has a great vision for the City of Salisbury, fire department included, that the SCFFA believes in as well. With fiscal responsibility, including timely audits, Ireton will ensure that the citizens’ money is being spent in the correct manner. Ireton will also strive for a safer City with his public facilities ordinance, which will allow the City to provide more firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and police officers on the street for the citizens. Ireton’s honesty and hard work as Mayor will carry the City well.

Debbie Campbell has proven herself time and again in recent years as a tireless and trustworthy Councilwoman. Campbell’s keen financial eye will keep the City going through the current economic hardship the country is experiencing. Campbell is willing to put forth the extra effort to keep the City running smoothly and properly as a Councilwoman.

Cynthia Polk brings a new perspective to the Council, and she has shown that she is willing to stand up and make changes in the City. Polk will work hard to take care of not only the City, but the citizens and employees as well.

The Salisbury Career FireFighters Association will stand with these candidates as they bring the integrity, diligence, and trustworthiness to the citizens they so rightfully deserve. I hope that the citizens will join us in supporting these candidates on April 7th.

Glen Beck Show At 5:00 PM Tonight

"Hi Joe, thought I'd drop you a quick note. I am former Sby resident and am so happy I no longer call it home, but still do love your blog. I may not agree with you all the time and if I did just what kinda of world would this be if we all shared the same opinion, but most of the time I do have to agree with you. I am not sure if you are a Fox news fan or not, however they do have a show on every day at 5 called Glen Beck. He expresses view that this country needs to get back to the basic principles that our country was founded on.. I believe his is a libertarian. He is having a special program today at 5 pm called "You are Not Alone"
Apparently alot of his viewers are hosting parties around the country. I am not sure if the show will live up to expectations, but I do like his regular programs any way. I do believe our country is on a course that will destroy it and all the freedoms we all have come to take for granted."

Exact location

Advertising

Serious attendees

We are looking for individuals, families, business owners and responsible Americans who are ready to act and bring about real, positive tax reforms for themselves, their families and for generations to come. Messages have been left for Bob Caldwell, Rick Pollit and Michael Steele to possibly attend and speak at the event.

We have gotten a huge number of responses in the last 48 hours, largely due to Joe’s blog. We are asking those serious about attending and helping out to join us at this meeting. We do understand many more will become involved as time goes on, but we want this to be well organized and meaningful event. We want our Federal, State and local politicians to listen to us. No more politics as usual. No more slogans, rhetoric, and double speak that results in nothing being done in the favor of the people of this country, or for our future.

What Does One TRILLION Dollars Look Like?

(Keep Scrolling down).

All this talk about "stimulus packages" and "bailouts"...

A billion dollars...

A hundred billion dollars...

Eight hundred billion dollars...

One TRILLION dollars...

What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.

We'll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slightly fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2" thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet...

And $1 BILLION dollars... now we're really getting somewhere...

Next we'll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we've been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it's a million million. It's a thousand billion. It's a one followed by 12 zeros.

You ready for this?

It's pretty surprising.

Go ahead...

Final 2008 Numbers Are In, Salvation Army Raises $499,710.65

Yesterday afternoon I was honored to be invited to a luncheon at the Fountains where we discussed last years success as being the best year in the history of our local Salvation Army Chapter.

Because of so many of you, business and personal volunteers achieved a goal in which the Salvation Army never expected. In all the years past, the Salvation Army had to hire Bell Ringers and in 2008 they didn't have to pay a single person, thanks to YOU. The numbers weren't just up, they were way up!

The main topic of conversation was actually about all 500+ of YOU! The most special moments yesterday were the conversations about personal experiences expressed on this Blog by volunteers as well as the stories many shared about the people that were so giving. Clearly that touched many hearts. As many of you as I would like to thank, (500+) there's just not enough room here to do so. Some day soon, however, I will get that list and I will post those names because these people are the true heroes to thousands upon thousands of families in need, especially in such trying times.

The Salvation Army presented me with a beautiful jacket in which I will proudly wear next year. A Partnership has been born and together we can ALL make so many lives better in our time of need. From this point forward we will be getting together monthly with the Salvation Army to create charts and again reach out to all of you once again simply for your time. The rewards are unexplainable but one thing I can assure you, you'll become a new human being once you've experienced it.

I hope we can depend on many of you returning this year and again, Salisbury News will be honored to promote your company for volunteering. There will be expanded locations in Salisbury as well as Worcester County. We hope you'll join us and enjoy the gift of giving. Together we CAN have a repeat performance for 2009.

Before I close, more than anything else I want to thank ALL of the people who reached into their pockets and made such unbelievable donations. While there's much to be said about a volunteer that greets you with a smile while ringing a bell, think about how wonderful those volunteers feel when you return that smile and thank them for being there. Clearly this was a win/win for the Eastern Shore.

$499,710.65

THANK YOU!

We The People (Tea Party)!

We Need To Act

"Joe,

What I think is ironic about the problems in our Country is that enemies have stated that they will destroy us from within. We haven’t had any destruction or deaths caused buy our enemies in this Country since the 911 disaster. Now the President, all of the politicians and Home Land Security say it’s because of the great job everyone is doing. Well I’ve got some very disturbing news for them. They are actually supporting the enemy by helping to destroy our economy. Once our Country’s economy sinks to the bottom of the well everything will start to unravel. You’ll probably see more riots, more crime, etc. It is time the American people woke up and voiced their opinion to their Representatives in Washington. Please remember, they are not you bosses, we are their bosses. We, the Citizens of the U.S. have to act and act now before it’s to late.

How many of you feel that poring money, trillions of dollars, into a black hole in space will solve anything. This Country was built on successes and failures. If you succeed that’s great, if you fail you pick yourself up dust yourself off and start all over again. It’s worked for two hundred years, what makes anybody feel that it won’t work today. It’s time to stop bailing businesses out, let them fail and rebuild. Yes, It will be painful for all of us but this Country has done it before and we can do it again. Get rid of all those politicians that don’t have faith in the American people and the American way of life. It really might be a good time to set term limits on the Politicians, that way you won’t have these career representatives that think they are the only ones that know how to solve problems, It would breath new life into Congress every few years. Maybe, just maybe, we would get people in there that want to be there to help and help make a difference.

I’m through sounding off. Joe, I really don’t care if you post this or not. I’m old and tired of seeing our Country being torn apart by our so called leaders. I do feel sorry for the younger generation, they’re going to be in for one heck of a ride.

I guess the best way to say it is put or shut up."
