Michael Is Wrong Again
One of the other Bloggers tried belittle my position of being in the top 10 on his Blog by stating, "I’m not sitting at my PC but at my laptop; however, I can pretty much guarantee you haven’t “always” been in the BNN top 10."
Well Michael, as this chart proves, I have only been ranked 7th one time, 5th one time, 4th three times, 2nd six times and #1 EIGHT times in the past 18 weeks! Perhaps you'd like to provide YOUR chart and put your money where your mouth is?
The chart provided is as far back as I could get BNN to provide but no matter how much you want to bring Salisbury News down, I'd say this evidence clearly shows you have no clue what you're talking about and out of hundreds, (if not thousands) of Blogs out there, I'd say Salisbury News has proven to be at the top of the field with evidence to back up my comment on your Blog.
These people will do whatever and say whatever they can to discredit this Site but I refuse to allow someone to slander the facts and quite frankly Michael I'm a bit surprised at you. To criticize my Blog and try to tell me how I should run it clearly shows how insecure you are. Like I've told you in the past. Salisbury Police Department Press Release
On August 4, 2008 at approximately 12:55 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to the WaWa Store on South Salisbury Blvd. for the report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival the officers were advised that the below listed suspect had attempted to take two (2) drinks from the store without attempting payment. Employees of the store were able to detain the suspect until the arrival of the Police. The drinks were recovered, however the suspect began to yell and curse at store employees and customers. Attempts at calming the suspect failed and the suspect was placed under arrest.

Slow Start
It has been a VERY long day for me today. That being said, the Posts going up for Wednesday morning will be slow to start but once I get going it should pick up fairly quick as there are numerous Posts of what I feel are of great importance. So be easy on me in the morning Folks and things will come together sooner than you think. I'm just not prepared to sit up half the night pre posting information, I need a break. Date of Incident: 1 August 2008
Location: Walston switch Rd. at Archie Dennis Rd., Parsonsburg, MD
Suspect: Gary Lynn Foskey, 31, Salisbury, MD
On 1 August 2008 at 11:28PM, a deputy stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on Walston Switch Road in Parsonsburg. During the traffic stop, the deputy managed to locate a baggie containing what the deputy recognized as marijuana behind the passenger seat. Along with the marijuana, the deputy also recovered oxycodone tablets. After an investigation, the deputy arrested the passenger, Gary Foskey, for possession of marijuana and the oxycodone.
Foskey was transported to the Central Booking Unit at the Wicomico County Detention Center where he was processed and taken before the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Foskey was held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $3,000.00 bond.

After multiple car accidents on and off the job, Officer Todd has now been assigned to Bike Patrol with the Salisbury, Maryland State Police.
Officer Todd is the Son of Worcester County States Attorney Joel Todd.

The legendary Thrashers French Fries just got tagged in Ocean City. I would have to assume that the cameras along the Boardwalk will catch these individuals that did such a thing but it also proves there's more Gang Activity on the Shore. The good part is, when their doors are open, you can't see it.

I am fuming right now so I decided to write to you...i'm guessing a therapy to calm down. I just came back from bringing my son to pre-school. On my return home headed south on Rt 13 in Delmar I was behind a green dodge coupe. As we pass the weight stations this little head holding a sippy cup pops up between the seats just hanging out enjoying the view. I had to double and triple check my eyes because I really didn't believe I was seeing such a young child just walking around the back seat. As we approached the light at the MSP barracks I pulled up next to the driver and now for sure saw a NO MORE THAN 2YR OLD just hanging out. I rolled down my window and asked the young driver if she had a car seat. She replied, "yeah." I responded with, "well she isn't she in it?" To which this lovely young lady answered, "She doesn't like it, and what business is it of yours?" I had plenty of responses, but I just stared at her and picked up my cell and dialed the barracks. I hope they got her as I gave them the description of her car and the tag number, but who knows. She doesn't like it? WTF? I just hope they nailed her!"
I have done the same a number of times. Police Officers LOVE it when they can catch someone breaking the law this way. It's about the CHILD. Great work!

OCEAN CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES ‘DRUNK DRIVING: OVER THE LIMIT, UNDER ARREST’ IN EFFORT TO SAVE LIVES
The Ocean City Police Department will be joining thousands of law enforcement and highway safety agencies across the country by taking part in the /Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest/ crackdown campaign against impaired driving. During the campaign, which will be enforced from August 15 until September 1, 2008, Ocean City officers will be out in force conducting saturation patrols and using undercover officers to get more drunk drivers off the road.
The national /Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest/ impaired driving crackdown campaign is a prevention program organized by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The focal point for the campaign is the combination of high-visibility enforcement and a heightened public awareness through advertising and publicity.
Drunk driving is one of the most dangerous crimes in the United States. According to the campaign’s website, in 2006, more than 13,000 people died in highway crashes involving a driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. “In Ocean City we see far too many people who have been driving under the influence of alcohol,” stated Ocean City Police Chief Bernadette A. DiPino. “Driving drunk is simply not worth the risks that people take. Not only do violators risk injuring or killing themselves, but also injuring or killing someone else.”
DiPino urges Ocean City residents and visitors who have been drinking to use alternative means of transportation. “We are actually quite lucky to live in Ocean City,” DiPino added. “We live in a city that offers numerous options for a safe ride home, including the Ocean City buses and several taxicab companies.”
Chief DiPino also recommends that people designate a driver before going out in Ocean City. “Many establishments offer free non-alcoholic beverages to designated drivers,” DiPino remarked. “By choosing to be a designated driver you are choosing to not only ensure the safety of yourself, but the safety of your friends.”
The effort of /Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest/ is supported by $11 million in paid-national advertising to help put everyone on notice that driving under the influence will not be tolerated, now more then ever.

THEN I STARTED TO REALIZE THAT AFTER LIVING A HALF CENTURY THAT ALL THE WORRYS IN LIFE WERE OUT OF MY CONTROL. SO WHY DO IT? NOW
I HAVE AN AFTER 50 ATTITUDE OF “ OH WELL, WHATS NEXT?”
THEN I NOTICED SOME EXAMPLES THAT I STEPPED BACK AND LOOKED AT: LIKE PEOPLE THAT WORK 60 HOURS A WEEK AND LOOK TWICE THEIR AGE AND HAVE NO FINGER NAILS. WHY DO WE DO THAT?
ANOTHER GOOD EXAMPLE IS MY WIFE WHO GOES THRU A PANIC BECAUSE SHE IS HAVING A BIRTHDAY PAST THE MID 40’S POINT! (NOTICE HOW I WORDED
THAT GUYS WITH NO ACTUAL AGE NUMBER) THAT WAS BECAUSE SHE TURNED ME ONTO THIS BLOG AND READS IT EVERYDAY!! LOVE YA CUTES!

R.I.P. Nora Lee Hopkins
"Hello Joe. I look at your blog allot and find it very interesting. I am a career paramedic for snow hill. my grandmother passed away on Sunday.. My sister Patricia Bruce has a 1 month old child Named ashlynn Rose Bruce. she was born with several birth defects. My grandmothers obituary is in today Salisbury daily times. My niece is having to be taken to John's Hopkins hospital for multiple doctor appointments. I am in the process of setting up a trust fund for her. please look at my grandmothers obituary and if you would maybe put it on your blog. any help in raising funds for her is very helpful."

LAUREL -- Nora Lee Hopkins, nee Peacock, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family in Laurel on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008.
She was born Nov. 25, 1924, to Samuel Moody and Marie Young Peacock, and raised in Pasadena and Baltimore, where she graduated from Western High School. She moved to Eastport when she married William "Bill" T. Hopkins Sr. (died 2003) and raised two children who survive her, William "Bill" Hopkins Jr. and Barbara Hopkins Webster. She has two surviving sisters, Virginia Reid of Littlestown, Pa., and Eileen Dunkle of Annapolis, and one brother, Philip Orin Peacock of Arnold, Md.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Adeline Smith, and two brothers, Gilbert Peacock and Robert Peacock. She is also survived by five grandchildren, William III Hopkins, Marc Hopkins, Kenneth Bruce, Deborah Bruce and Patricia Bruce; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Tristan and Ashlynn.
She will be remembered by 26 nieces and nephews, as well as any and all who met her as being a devout Christian, a good cook, and having a ready laugh. Her love for people was shown by her charitable activities at Eastport United Methodist Church. She remained young at heart all her life, was especially drawn to children, always ready to play games or read with them, and often referred to as the "Candy Lady" due to her always filled, ready to be shared candy jars.
In 1998, Nora Lee and Bill left their beloved Eastport to move to Laurel to be near their daughter. Once in Laurel, Nora Lee attended St George's United Methodist Church. The memorial will be a private family affair.
On June 26, 2008, her granddaughter, Ashlynn Rose Bruce, was born with bone marrow failure called Black Fan Diamond Anemia. She has received three blood transfusions and has been in congestive heart failure two times. Ashlynn is having to be taken to John's Hopkins for multiple appointments.

In 1998, Nora Lee and Bill left their beloved Eastport to move to Laurel to be near their daughter. Once in Laurel, Nora Lee attended St George's United Methodist Church. The memorial will be a private family affair.
On June 26, 2008, her granddaughter, Ashlynn Rose Bruce, was born with bone marrow failure called Black Fan Diamond Anemia. She has received three blood transfusions and has been in congestive heart failure two times. Ashlynn is having to be taken to John's Hopkins for multiple appointments.

On July 31, 2008 at approximately 10:22 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department were in the area of the Boundless Playground on Broad Street and observed the below listed suspect in possession of what appeared to be a controlled dangerous substance smoking device. The suspect was stopped, and the smoking device was located on her person and contained a quantity of suspected crack/cocaine.

On August 2, 2008 at approximately 3:02 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to the area of E. Main St. and E. Church St. for the report of a subject in the street in possession of a board. The officers located the below listed suspect in the roadway, who was in possession of a board and was yelling and causing a disturbance in the area. The officer attempted, unsuccessfully, a number of times to quiet the suspect and to have him exit the roadway.

On August 2, 2008 at approximately 4:45 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to a business on Waverly Drive for the report of a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot. Upon arrival, the officers found that below listed suspect # 1 had driven into the lot and had struck another vehicle. Further investigation revealed that suspect # 1 had no driver’s license or vehicle insurance. During the investigation of the accident, management of the business attempted to have below listed suspect # 2 leave the property, without success.

Upon arrival, officers were advised by store personnel that employees had observed the below listed suspect take food and cosmetics from the store without making any attempt at payment. Store employees stopped the suspect, who was arrested by the responding officers. The stolen property was recovered.

On August 3, 2008 at approximately 12:20 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to the area of South Division St. for the report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, Officers located the below listed suspect, and suspect vehicle. It was determined that the suspect had struck three (3) different vehicles prior to stopping her vehicle. Contact with the suspect revealed that the suspect appeared to be driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, it was found that the suspect had no driver’s license, and was operating the vehicle without insurance.

National Farmers Market Week August 3rd through 9th Buy Local & BUY AMERICAN
This week has been designated as National Farmers Market Week by the USDA. It sounds like a pretty good idea after driving to Southern Maryland last weekend and stopping at three different small roadside produce stands.
One stand had the sweetest watermelon I have tasted so far this summer. Then there is the small peach orchard off the road behind the 'Wye Tree Service' on the Route 50 West. We bought Stephanie a 'Peck' of fresh, sweet and delicious peaches and now wish we had purchased a bushel.
Supporting farmers markets is a great way to keep your shopping dollars here in the USA and even better with someone local, who you can look in the eye.
Here is the USDA definition of a Farmers Market:
A farmer's market is one in which farmers, growers, or producers from a defined local area sell their own produce directly to the public. They are usually held out-of-doors, in public spaces, and all products sold have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the farmers. In addition, farmers' markets often feature produce that is grown naturally or organically, meats that are raised humanely on pasture, handmade farmstead cheeses, eggs and poultry from free-range fowl, as well as heirloom produce and heritage breeds of meat and fowl. Farmers markets have continued to rise in popularity, mostly due to the growing consumer interest in obtaining fresh products directly from the farm.
