The Daily Times Deletes My Comments

Earlier today I put up some comments on Storychat. City 1732 put up a comment challenging me as manufacturing information, so I countered with evidence.

Since this proof completely damaged the entire article the Times put up, they pulled it. I then stated it was Yellow Journalism and they too pulled that comment. There were no curse words in my message.

I implore all of you to cancel your subscription to this Newspaper as they refuse to follow the first rule of journelism, "Freedom Of Speech." Unless, that is, it makes the Times look like crap.

How many of you want to spend $322,000.00 to repair Beaver Dam Bridge, AGAIN?

How many of you want to spend $375,000.00 to renovate Fire Station II?

How many of you want to spend $1,800,000.00 in additional ENGINEERING costs for the Paleo Water Plant? As if you haven't already spent enough at that WWTP!

How many of you want to bond out $500,000.00 for an animal quarantine facility at the Salisbury Zoo, even though they already said they could build the $1,500,000.00 building in stages? I'll add, the taxpayers are being asked FIRST to come up with 1/3 of a building that shouldn't cost anywhere near $700,000.00, let alone $1,500,000.00. I say, let eh Zoo, (RON ALESSI) prove they can raise the other $1,000,000.00 FIRST, before the Taxpayers bond themselves out of the market for no reason.

How many of you believe Truck 16 is no good any more and the City should bond out $950,000.00, even thought Fire Fighters even admit a new Truck wouldn't cost half that in today's market? What will they do with Truck 16, cut it in half and install it into Station II?

How many of you want to spend $500,000.00 in ENGINEERING Fees for a water tower, (NOT the water tower, just the engineering fees, like it's never been done before) at the North side of the City?

If you're an IDIOT, raise your hand!

Yeah, tonight will be loaded with more Barrie "I want to run for Mayor again" Tilghman spending. Taxes are going to go up again Ladies & Gentlemen and if you don't fight it, you're going to spend yourself right into bankruptcy.

Our Monday Message From Congressional Candidate Andy Harris

Friends,


Tonight we begin week two of the Special Session in Annapolis. Despite the thousands of people who have called and protested the O'Malley Administrations largest tax increase in Maryland history, Democratic legislators are still intent on burdening working Maryland families with this new tax burden. I have never voted for a single statewide tax increase and I will not start now.


Last week, I uncovered unethical and possibly illegal actions by the O'Malley Administration. The O'Malley Administration engaged in a calculated effort to misuse tax-payer dollars by having cabinet secretaries and their staff lobby for the largest tax increase in Maryland history. I find this a reprehensible misuse of tax-payer dollars and an abuse of political power. The O'Malley Administration used scare tactics, and leveraged their position of power to lobby people who depend on the government for their livelihood.


I obtained two emails that shed light on O'Malley's plan. The first email is from the Governor's Office. It directs Cabinet Secretaries and their staff to strong-arm those over whom their departments have influence - urging them to support the largest tax increase in Maryland history. The second email evidences the implementation of the plan. It is an email from the Department of General Service Secretary to a private state contractor registered through EMarket Maryland.


I believe the effort to intimidate an EMarket Maryland contractor by the Cabinet Secretary is uncalled for, unjustified, and reprehensible. The purpose of establishing EMarket Maryland was to increase the efficiency of the procurement process. It was not intended as a lobbying arm of the Executive Branch.


I have called for a full investigation by the Attorney General and the Maryland Ethics Commission. I have also filed a public information request for the ongoing logs of these lobbying activities mentioned in the email from the Governor's Office. With Maryland facing a massive tax increase, I am going to do everything possible to determine how much tax-payer money was wasted on this unjustified and unethical lobbying practice.


If I am elected to Congress, I will fight to make sure our tax dollars are used in the most effective and ethical way possible. I will continue to shed light on corruption in government so people can regain faith in the political process.


Finally, I want to take a quick moment to thank those of you who attended my fundraiser in Salisbury on Saturday night. The overwhelming support for my candidacy is both humbling and encouraging.

I know this student and family as well and know he is very sorry for the statement he has made. I am in favor of being cautious and understand the reason for the schools action but not all the text and email rumors going around. It has caused quite a stir among all the Wicomico County Schools. It's crazy that rumors can get twisted so many times. I hope and pray that this is a lesson learnt to all students about statements that can not be made and the seriousness of them but also that rumors should not be spread unless you have the correct facts.

See the image above? That came to me while I was standing right next to Rick Pollitt. I reviewed it and immediately alerted Rick. He asked who my source was and when I told him, he immediately knew it warranted immediate attention. What I brought out was NOT a rumor, it was LIVE! It came directly from inside Wi-Hi and deserved to be brought to every one's attention.

The article The Daily Times did on this covered it completely up. They never mentioned the Student transfered from Delmar, the fact he was immediately sent home and that his locker was in fact inspected immediately. You read NONE of that in The Daily Times and the Board of Education, (IMO) was also out of line and mislead the parents at their Press Conference in which I was not invited to.

Hiring Minorities Is One Thing, Promoting Them Is Another!

The Daily Times put out one of the biggest propaganda pieces for Barrie Tilghman and the Salisbury Fire Department I've ever seen before. The Daily Times wants you to believe the SFD is agressively doing everything they can to recruit minorities. Why, because Salisbury News nailed the crap out of them in the past couple of weeks and this is the typical Barrie Tilghman Damage Control stepping in.

I don't EVER want to hear from Greg Bassett or Joe Carmean again that this is NOT the Tilghman Times! GO HERE and read this unbelievable article they put out this morning! Am I the sucker this morning because I'm going to deliver them thousands of additional hits? Probably, but it's worth it. You people have to see this crap!

Samantics is their game. "This year's 18-person recruiting class adds nine women, five blacks and two Hispanics." it then goes on to say, It then goes on to say they recruited "triple the number of Hispanic firefighters." OK Idiots. IF you only have ONE Hispanic Fire Fighter and you added two, how do you get tripple the amount of Hispanics? That is unless you use mathmatics like, I had one cigar and someone gave me two more, now I have tripple the amount.

Their wording doesn't say the City HIRED all of these minorities. It simply saysm "This year's 18-person recruiting class adds." In other words, these are Volunteers. I'm confident they would have never done this without my recent articles and I'm proud to have played a HUGE roll in pushing the SFD to go the extra mile to recruit them. However, it's funny how hundreds of comments came in on this blog about this topic and many Fire Fighters said, We can't force them to sign up!

Another topic I'd like to mention here is, once they've been recruited and or even hired, there's NO CHANCE for them to be promoted and the history, (even recently) proves of such. Lorenzo Cropper is the ONLY Black Professional Fire Fighter on the entire SFD. He is college educated and he has been turned down over and over again for promotions in the past few years.

I believe the article The Daily Times produced is absolutely pitiful reporting on their behalf, just like their recent articles on Wi-Hi & Bennett. It's what Barrie Tilghman wants you to know Ladies & Gentlemen and that's all there is to it.

The ONLY accurate line they put in there was, "Last year's recruiting class saw an increase of four female firefighters and a decrease of four black firefighters." Yeah, that's diversity. Now do some investigative reporting and tell me how many of these women actually handle a fire hose? NONE!

If they were Paid Fire Fighters they would have said so in the article. You're NOT supposed to figure that out though. The pictures don't lie Chiefy, show me the Blacks, Hispanics & Women.

In closing, I think it's wonderful the SFD is doing something. However, the racial slurs/comments need to end. Just because you hire minorities doesn't mean they're going to stick around.

The City's Letter To Electrical Inspectors

After Bill Holland made a complete ass out of himself the other night. The proposed attempt to create a new exclusive Electrical Inspector for the City of Salisbury was a flop. Being unprepared for a meeting will always bit you in the ass, just as it did for Bill that evening.

Now with tail between legs, the City delivers a letter pretty much saying, We'll Be Back. Not if the Contractors have anything to do with it! The next time there will be twice the amount of Contractors because they now know how to work the City. Let me forewarn you though, fine Gentlemen. This Mayor can and will be a complete biotch when she wants her way and if this is something she wants, she's going to get it.

That being said, with the decline of building permits in the City, continue to hit them in the wallet where it hurts the most. Oh, Bill, get your sh*t straight the next time and don't ever forget that a professional is always prepared for meetings like that. That goes for John Pick too.

The Delmar/Wi-Hi Story

"I'm a Delmar alum, and I actually know the student in question here.
I rode the bus home with him everyday.
Here's what happened:

He was in class, and someone punched him in the face. He got upset and said, "Just wait until Friday, it'll be another VT."
He didn't go to school on Friday. He didn't have a hit list. He understands what he did was wrong.

He was going to transfer to Wi Hi, but for his own protection he'll probably be homeschooled.

He's actually a very nice boy. He made a HUGE mistake, and he'll never be able to take that back.

But please, don't spread rumors. He'll be living with this for the rest of his life, and parents, you don't have to worry for the safety of your children.

He won't do anything to them. He's learned his lesson.

I'd also like to clarify:

He made the threat in Delmar High School. Not WiHi at all.
He wasn't expelled from Delmar, he was given an out of school suspension.

His parents pulled him out of Delmar for his own protection.

I'm sure the schools didn't publicize it for many reasons.

One being that parents would start freaking out, starting nasty rumors, and try and hurt the student or his parents.

I'm not defending what he said, but there are a lot of rumors flying around, and I'd just like to remind everyone that you should take everything you hear with a grain of salt. Even if it's on the news.

Take ONE guess what the SFD would name their boat?

Early last summer I did a story about the SFD, (mainly Deputy Chief Gordy) trying to go after a Homeland Security Grant to purchase a $800,000.00 Boat.

Fire Fighters used some BS excuse that it was to protect waterfront homes and that it was required by their Insurance Companies. Like Fire Trucks can't get to waterfront properties! Notice how in today's article there was no mention of that!

Nevertheless, The Daily Times is way behind in the news and the Salisbury Fire Department wants to screw the Taxpayers and Federal Government out of money not necessary for real Homeland Security.

And we have the Coast Guard for??????????? I know, I know, the fun of it! Get a grip Fire Fighters of Salisbury, you blew your wad on a $10,000,000.00 Fire Station and now you greedy SOB's want more? Oh, they mentioned Baltimore and Annapolis. GET A GRIP! This is NOT either major port, so go sell it to someone who wants to listen to your BS. Greedy/Gordy, pretty close, eh?

I say, send out donation envelopes and let them stand for how the Taxpayers of Salisbury feel about this request?

This should make for a really good thread/post. The reason I say that is, how do you feel about the driving habits from local delivery companies such as UPS, FedEx, DHL and others? Do you feel they're aggressive? Do you notice their speed on the roadways around here? Tell us your experiences as I'm sure everyone else, (including these companies) would love to hear it.

Drive Thru Barber Shops Just Don't CUT It!

This Barber Shop on Mt. Hermon Road fell victim of a drunk driver not negotiating the roadway in a major way. The driver was arrested and you know what Folks, this kind of crap just has to end. When you're that drunk, to a point in which you're driving down Mt. Hermon Road, ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD and then fail to stay on the road and do this kind of damage, ($16,000.00 worth) you HAD to have known you shouldn't be driving! Thank God it was a sign and not an oncoming vehicle with children in it.

I should define this better. This driver was heading east on Mt. Hermon Road. Perhaps that will spell out a little better just how screwed up they were?

Earth Seen From Outer Space

In a meeting the other night they showed a photograph of earth at night. As this picture fascinated me, hopefully it will do the same for you.

Look at the illumination in the United States at night! Is that unbelievable, or what? You can also see Europe around 2:00 and see just how light up they are at night too.

Barrie, if you get out the proper equipment you can see just what street lights are burned out in Salisbury. LOL

The Andy Harris Fundraiser

Last night was a very special evening. Andy Harris was the guest of honor at Hala & Mark McIver's home off Nanticoke Road. Talk about spectacular!

I showed up with my camera but chose to leave it in the car for the evening as this wasn't a Blogging scene. That being said, names of those who attended won't even show up here on this Blog. Some people seem to be really sensitive about those kind of things.

I could see if their names were something like, Soprano, Luciano, Capone, you get my drift. Nevertheless, people wanted to make damn sure they were in the closet and not exposed to the public and like my ancestors in the past, I can respect that.

There's no doubt the McIver's deserve a huge round of thank yous from so many people for so many reasons. They opened up their home to a ton of people in order to raise money for a very good man, Andy Harris. All I can tell you is, my Wife and I had a blast! I say "Wife" because I don't want to expose her name. LOL

Vinny catered the food and even chose to stick around and hob knob with all of us. Talk about a fun guy! Oh, sorry Vinny, I gave out half your name. One can only hope that Italian doesn't get mad because I mentioned him? Is he, ONE OF THEM???? LOL

I will say, every single person I spoke with after Andy gave his speech truly enjoyed his style and what he stands for. Gilchrest has over stayed his welcome and Andy will succeed into Congress, no problem. He's a good man and he's the right choice.

American attitudes toward growth reflect a great deal of ambivalence. Many see economic and population growth as good business, more consumers, more workers, more prosperity ÷ a rising tide that lifts all boats. For those who directly profit, growth is an engine of expanding wealth and power, with many politicians seeing it as the ticket to re-election and just as importantly a well-funded war chest. For most others, growth is a fact of life, something to be endured, the inevitable price of progress. For most ordinary American families living in sprawl ravaged communities, however, growth has a dark underside that has, until recently, received far too little exposure.

Now, Eben Fodor, who describes himself as a "public interest community planning consultant (i.e., not a development planner)," has written a book for those who want realistic alternatives to the prospect of never-ending growth. Better Not Bigger is a thoroughly accessible, information- filled, action guide that definitively exposes the myth that growth is an unalloyed good. His analysis of the money, economic forces, and political alliances that drive growth clearly delineates who are the real winners and losers. As Fodor follows the money, we find that it is not the long-term well being of American communities but an unwritten and too often unexamined mantra "In Growth We Trust" that drives the local politics of growth. Whether it is community activists or the increasing number of local decision-makers who are looking to battle the powerful and well-funded development interests, this is a book that provides the answers and arguments necessary to be an effective advocate for rejecting the growth imperative and moving toward truly sustainable communities.

Just as growth consumes communities piece by piece, Fodor meticulously takes apart the growth machine and exposes its inner workings. At the heart of this machine are what he describes as the "The Twelve Big Myths of Growth." One by one, he addresses and carefully provides a detailed refutation of growth's core ideology, myths such as: "growth provides needed tax revenues, we have to grow to provide good jobs, we have to Îgrow or die'."

Fodor pays special attention to one of today's most prevalent myths ÷ that "smart" growth is the answer. If only we do a better job at planning, create some green space, revitalize the urban cores, "smart growth" can provide it all, good jobs, affordable housing, an increased quality of life and a healthy environment. He calls this "The Catch 22 of Growth: the better you make your community, the more people will want to live there, until it is no better than any other community." Far too many communities have been seduced by the belief that they can have their cake and eat it too, that they can somehow manage growth, mitigate the worst impacts of sprawl and still preserve quality of life and the environment. This book is a powerful exposition of the fundamental contradictions that underlie the rhetoric and often self-serving promises of smart growth apologists.

Much of the hard-hitting analysis on the costs of growth came from a groundbreaking study that Fodor did on the infrastructure costs to local communities of single family homes in Oregon. In what is perhaps the best in depth examination of the costs of growth to local communities available, Fodor's detailed analysis is a virtual activist primer on determining the costs of growth to any community across the country.

This book is far more than just a critique of growth. Its greatest value is to grassroots organizers, environmentalists, and other activists who want to get involved and do something to help their local communities put the brakes on growth. Much of the latter half of the book is a detailed nuts and bolts look at what local communities can do to control and in many cases stop growth on the local level. Unlike the growth accommodation masquerading as smart growth so fashionable among some national and state political leaders, Fodor recognizes that simply making the best of a bad situation is not enough. He is keenly aware that the main battles over growth are won and lost in thousands of local communities across the nation. This book also provides the analysis, information and resources to successfully take on the growth machine.

This emphasis on the local is both a strength and weakness in the book's approach to growth issues. If there is a shortcoming, it is in a failure to put local growth control efforts in the larger context of national economic and population growth. While he details effective strategies and tactics for controlling or stopping growth on the local level, Fodor never quite comes to grips with the extent that national population growth drives both economic expansion and ultimately growth on the local level. As long as the national population keeps growing, the additional people will need jobs, houses, transportation and resources to consume. Populations may grow nationally, but they impact is most acute in the local community. No matter how well you manage, mitigate or minimize, additional humans means additional impacts on quality of life and on the environment be it locally, nationally or globally.

Likewise, Fodor never really examines how much more effective the measures he advocates would be if population growth pressures were alleviated. Good planning and design, economic and tax incentives, effective and innovative land use regulation, preserving undeveloped land, and citizen involvement are all important parts of controlling growth and moving toward sustainability. But, no matter how effective these measures are they are not by themselves sufficient for lasting gain. From a long-term perspective, the only sound foundation for ending growth is a stable and stationary national population, ideally at an optimum level much smaller than today's. Better Not Bigger gives much needed insights, analysis, practical tools and activist resources for those working for "smart" growth. Were these efforts combined with national efforts to lower immigration and eventually stop national population growth, the approaches presented in this book could be the basis for achieving truly livable and sustainable communities.
