Sen. Carter says there is no ‘public utility’ to locking up Pugh

A day after federal prosecutors called for sending former Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh to prison for nearly five years, state Sen. Jill Carter, D-Baltimore City, said she does not believe there is any “public utility” to locking up the disgraced politician.

“It’s not that she doesn’t deserve jail time. I guess that I don’t know that I think jail time is gonna serve any purpose — any real benefit to society… She’s been punished quite a bit already,” Carter told MarylandReporter.com in a phone interview on Friday.

Pugh’s attorneys echoed that sentiment, asking for a sentence of one year and one day in a sentencing memorandum filed with the federal court on Friday, according to the Baltimore Sun.

For the fraud she committed and the fraud that she is - she deserves at least TEN years!

If she goes to jail she will spill the beans on other dirtbags in Baltimore's political cabal and that is why she will get a slap on the wrist. It's the reason Hildabeast is not in jail.

What a friggin joke really. No that crook needs to meet sally in the alley. Best place for her is a jail cell.

No excuses. She committed a crime and should serve the time. If it was one of us regular citizens we would have serve time.

Doesn't serve any purpose? Are you frigging kidding me? So let the criminals run free? There is a debt that needs to be repaid to Society. This was not a victimless crime. And don't even get me started on that term.

Home detention is all she will get and I highly doubt that will happen.

For a sen. you sure are stupid, or are you just covering the back of a fellow gang thug-ett? The "public utility" is that not only should crime not pay, but if for no other reason to deter further corruption for the crime ridden legislator and government thugs we have been saddled with!

Lock her up! Send a message.

Start at the bottom and work your way up. Jail time for a politician is very good and serves a great purpose just like anyone else who thinks not abiding by the law is okay.

Watch Two Sets of Laws play out right before your eyes.

You can't stop cheering.

They laugh at your total surrender.

Public shame is not listed in any guidelines as a punishment for committing crimes especially those of public trust. I am sure I am speaking for many who are sick and tired of this two tiered justice system. If anything those who violate the public trust as an elected official should be held not only to a higher standard but higher penalty for violating it. Public shame comes with any law one violates. Punishment is serving time for a crime

Mayor held a number of elected offices over time in state and local government. Certainly signed ethics and prohibited practices sheets on numerous occasions.

Her schemes required a lot of planning and involved others in positions of trust and influence. So she's a stone cold thief and criminal. She deserves a stiff sentence. There are no mitigating factors.

So, what does Senator Carter fear might be coming her way?

Justice for all except for Democrats.

"No public Utility", that is just plain BS. It is a criminal act purposely carried out over a period of years. Quit excusing the obvious that she is a black politician and deserves to be excused for that reason. Justice was made to deliver consequences for crimes, not just set them in the corner. It is insulting to the black community to deserve different standards for crimes. Not thinking that "jail time is gonna serve any purpose", says to me that she would, if put in the same position again, would commit the same crime again.

Lock her up and close the door. Case closed.

State senator. Low IQ! Remember Carl anderton is in the state legislature too.

State representatives that think public corruption by elected persons don't deserve punishment for their crimes, are just part of the corrupt government that comes out of Baltimore.
