HUD Secretary Ben Carson on Wednesday unveiled a major overhaul of the rental-housing system, proposing to increase the share of rent that low-income households must pay before receiving assistance and allow public housing authorities to impose work requirements.
The proposal to reshape the way HUD helps 4.5 million people meet their rent is part of a broader Trump administration push to link anti-poverty programs to employment.
Carson — who often refers to his own up-from-nothing life story as a parable for the poor and said last year that poverty is "a state of mind" — has long called on HUD to focus on helping people get off assistance, rather than expanding the benefits it provides.
The current system, Carson said on a conference call with reporters, creates "perverse incentives, including discouraging these families from earning more income and becoming self-sufficient."

Good for you, Ben! These people need this kind of help desparately!
There will always be those who cannot work due to physical or mental issues. Those who can, though, should be.
Longgggggg overdue.
I know if one who complained because her rent went from $112 to $114! She thought it was unfair! Yet she has gone on a cruise every year for the last 4 years... wish I could afford to go on a Cruise every year but hey, I made the mistake of working for a living. sic
Doctor to re-evaluate
I know of plenty of slackers working the system
All of the federal housing assistance recipients are gaming the system!
They don't work, they have 50" tvs and 22" rims on the boyfrined's/baby-daddy's Jog/Blingillac, and then buy steak, lobster, and crabs with their SNAP cards!
Better use of my tax dollars - thanks!
Other than giving Sean Hannity the heads up whenever a large number of low income housing units come up for sale he's doing a great job.
@April 27,2018@9:11. If you know for a fact she is on assistance, then contact the welfare and report her lavish vacations. Do something, don't just post on line. WE have to stop them.
@10:05pm. Then report them. Say nothing and nothing happens. Like they say, See something, say something.
