A Viewer Writes: Sam's Club Salisbury MD

I recently joined Sam's club (was a member of BJs but to far - Delaware). I have noticed that most box items I purchased i.e. candy - cookies are stale. Does Sam's sell what they can't sell at their Wal-Mart stores. Never purchased anything from BJs that was stale. Also, Sam's never has anything new. Has anyone noticed that Sam's doesn't want to compete with it's Wal-Mart stores.

Have you tried the Nathan's hotdogs there for 50c? It makes it all WORTH it.

There are some things that are cheaper at WalMart, than at Sam's Club.

I've never had problems with stale items at Sam's but I don't buy much that goes stale from them. I do know that you have to watch the prices because sometimes it is cheaper at Walmart. I also wish BJ's was closer. Delmar, maybe??

Don't every buy fruit or vegetables from Sam's Club, they are half rotten the day they put them on the shelves.

I don't understand this whole thing of paying to be a "member" of these clubs. How much money are you really saving? You have to buy most items in bulk. How much toilet paper and tissues do you need???

Never noticed, been a member since I think 1998 and have yet to encounter your problems ...

Joe'll defend dem Nathans so don't go on a rant against Sam's hot dogs

Much of what I buy from Sams Club are fruits and vegetables. I have not found them to be rotten or even half rotten. In fact except to watch prices I can find no fault with Sams. They certainly change their products seasonally.

I have worked for Sam's and been a member for years. I don't buy much in the frozen section because things inside the boxes are so small. You have to watch their produce because I have had fruit flies all over my house from their produce. They never have rotisserie chickens nowadays when I'm in there. I've been in there mid week at all hours. Chickens are in the ovens, but none are out ready to buy. I won't buy anything baked in store because they rarely wash the racks they put the baking on. I won't get anything from the cafe either. I mainly buy scrapple, coffee, creamer, honey, toilet paper and stuff like that. Since I got my membership back, I'm really disappointed in Sam's. The only reason I keep my membership is for the little bit I buy there and their meats are the best in Salisbury. I've considered going to Bj's in Millsboro, but their meat department sucks and it's too far away. I think we need a Bj's over here somewhere. Sam's has gone downhill and the Fruitland and Salisbury Walmarts are awful. We really need some new choices for shopping in Salisbury.

Not going to pay to have the "privilege" of shopping there! I drive all over the shore. In Pocomoke, I drop by Sysco, Easton or Grasonville it's Safeway, Salisbury it's Foodlion. Nothing special about Sam's.

A Sam's Club 3 lb bunch of bananas will go from too hard to eat, to rotten & mushy overnight. They are never ripe to eat.

Same way at Walmart.

Most of these complaints is exactly what I encounter at Walmart. If and when I do shop at Walmart I have to look for the expiration date because many, many times I have purchased stuff that was already expired. The last $10 bag of cherries I bought from Walmart had slimy mold all over them. The previous bag had flat spots where they were drying out.

Walmart is one NASTY store. Sorry Manure Bota for picking on your career, but it's a fact.

I still can't figure out why Easton has so many grocery stores & it's a smaller town than Salisbury. We would like a Harris Teeter or Aldi here too.

Easton has more class than Salisbury

As long as you're alive you need toilet paper, derrrr. I don't need tissues but women use a lot.

The worst store for short dated food and expired food is Food Lion. You BETTER look at the code or you will find yourself with expired food when you get home. I found whole box of nabs on the shelf at a local Food Lion that was several months out of date (placed at the front of the shelf) and I took it to the service desk to bring it to their attention. Wouldn't you know it, I went in the same store the following day, and the same package was back on the front of the shelf. They intend to sell anything that expires in their stores, even if its long after the expiration date. They sell short code milk and meats, as well. Buyer beware & don't try taking it back.

Yes! I made several complaints in hopes it would improve the next time I go back but its like they don't care.

The produce in the coolers is awful!

I have found packages of cheese at Acme that were buy one, get one free that were expired. I guess that's why they had the sale-- to get rid of them.

We have shopped there since it's opening never have been disappointed anything purchased. The only thing I would like to see changed is the dressing room back to try on things.

I MISS GIANT. I cannot find organic veggies to juice. I am a cancer victim and try to make a "bone builder" juice that requires 5 different veggies and I cannot find them in either store in Salisbury all at one time. By the time you find the one missing veggie the others are dead. It is sad living in a town the size of Salisbury without ONE DECENT grocery store.

Doesn't it just seem wrong to pay a fee in order to patronize a store? There is large bulk items but do you really save. I saw a documentary on Sam's Club where their goal is to turn your $10 trip into a $300. From my own experience, they do a marvelous job, because I've never walked out for less than $100-200 a trip. Bulk items are useless unless you have a large family or just buy paper goods. Food goes bad before it can be completely consumed. Ends up being a waste.

1. I used to purchase Coke beverages in large volumes - by the cases (16 oz plastic bottles) - then one day I went-into Sam's and found out that they discontinued the 16 ounce Coke beverages - and had substituted the 16 ounce bottles with Coke 20 ounce bottles. So then I had to start shopping for them at Wal-mart.

2. Sam's used to stock Michelin brand tires - Harmony series. They quite that - so I started buying my tires from Tire Rack.

3. I used to purchase Cherry's from Sam's - until their prices went through the roof - (they are much more expensive than Wal-mart).

For all of the above reasons - I very rarely go into Sam's anymore as their 'deal breaker' philosophy era has now ended. In fact - the last few time I visited the store - they won't even unlock their doors at their advertised hours of operation.
