Volunteers are SHOCKED they canceled the event, many of whom have donated their time for more than 10 years.
This had to be the biggest fundraising event the Zoo pulls off each year and even I have to admit, are they nuts?

thats a shame. Linda Wainer and her husband have always donated their time for that and always did a great job.
Get this. The event is in October and they're saying it's been canceled due to inclement weather.

It is truly a shame. My kids loved it and were so disappointed last year when they made it scary and not for younger children. We made it a tradition to go every year. Very disappointing!

The Red Roost is still having their haunted hay ride.
Joe, the NOLZ was never posted as an event for 2014, last year the event had to be cancelled at the last minute due to severe storms, costing the Zoo revenue as well as unrecoverable preparation costs. If families want to have some Halloween fun geared at the 10 and under crowd please check out the Zoo website. Oct. 18 and 25 from 1-4 Halloween Happenings is going on. Nominal fee and lots of fun!! Also we look forward to seeing everyone at Third Firday Downtown this Friday...come out and see what we have planned for the 60th Birthday celebration on Sept. 26!! Being that the NOLZ has become quite a tradition, (and a very successful one at that) it truly is a disappointment they are choosing to eliminate it.
I could not reach a human being at the Zoo, (ironic, lol) to discuss it further but I did click option 3 where they stated the event was canceled.
Ladies & Gentlemen, this is a PRIME opportunity to pick up the slack. Someone needs to create a children friendly event similar to the Night of the Living Zoo and run with it in Salisbury.
I do like the idea they'll have a kid friendly event from 1 to 4 pm but I hate to say it, it's just not the same.

This is a disappointment indeed. We have made it a point to visit NOLZ every year and even helped volunteer for a couple of years. I was actually looking forward to the scarier event they were supposed to host last year but mother nature just couldn't cooperate. I hope they reconsider how awesome of an event it was and choose to bring it back in the future!
Their fundraiser this summer, Zoobilation, I believe it was called was also a disappointment over previous years. The decision to "charge" for all beer and wine after the first one, will result in me longer attending this event. The costs of the tickets should justify all beer and wine to be at no charge. The specialty drinks were reasonably fairly priced though. Watching the mayor kiss another male on the mouth in public was also a bit much for me.
No NOLZ, Hidden Treasure Half Marathon? This year is a bummer for many Salisbury residents.
No big deal really.Those who patronize this event every year will just have to find another way to worship Satan.
All those that were going to help with this are welcome to join The Red Roost Horror and Shells Haunted Hayride as cast members.
The full cast meeting will be this Saturday Sept. 20th at 12:30 p.m. at The Red Roost in Whitehaven, MD.
This is a 1 1/2 mile hayride with acted Halloween skits all along the last mile of the ride. Contact Leslie Henrickson at lahendrickson@umes.edu or Brook at the Red Roost if you want to help but can not make the meeting this weekend.

This Halloween event is for children 10 and under who may not want the
scary parts of a Halloween event. Children will be able to Trick or Treat
throughout the Zoo, participate in Halloween games and compete in a
costume contest! There will be additional charge for food and some games.

It used to be Terry Cohen.
6:16, wrong. It was never Terry. First it was Gary Comegys, then it was Laura Mitchell.
Cohen offered to be the liaison, but no one wanted her near that group because she might want accountability. This despite the fact that she really was a big supporter of the zoo.
People tried to make her and Debbie Campbell out to be villains, enemies of the zoo. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Their loss.
