Shame on Debbie and Terry for voting on an outsider for fire chief. How can you say the Salisbury Police Department shouldn't have an outsider but the Salisbury Fire Department should? So much for supporting the will of the people.

Look dum dum 9:48 - we need someone that is going to work with what they have, not spend every cent and then want more for new toys - in order to accomplish this, they had to go outside the department - duh!

Many of the rank and file signed the petition sheet because they were put on the spot and did not want the rumormill getting back to him that they did not sign. The sheet was kept at Ivan's secretary's desk. How completely inappropriate! It should have been spearheaded by a non-ranking officer. However it was not. Look at the names on the top of the list. The acting captain and acting major that Ivan promoted. That list does a few things. It singles out those who did not sign. Some who did not sign support Ivan but refuse to get involved in those politics. Some who did not sign do not support Ivan because they believe he is too inexperienced for the number one spot. Ivan should not have permitted that list to be at his secretary's desk. What people tend to fail to realize is that many of the new officers, and believe me there are a lot, were told to sign and they did because they were young and impressionable. They probably do not even know what they were signing for. There has been no significant change at the Salisbury Police Department. The SPD needs someone who will fight for the officers. The city is under seige from the criminal element and officers are taking furloughs. Ivan is a great guy and has led a dedicated career. He may have put his time in but that does not grant him the right to be the Chief. There was nothing but politics involved with the mayor selecting Ivan. If you want real change you need someone with the drive. Someone attributed those mass amounts of patrols in the past two weeks to Ivan. Guess what, those were reactive patrols to terrible crimes. That is what happens when those crimes happen. It is no different from when Webster was there. What is the excuse now? The SPD is reactive and until we get a chief that wants to be PROACTIVE it will remain REACTIVE! By the way, Ivan is no Coulburn Dykes!

sounds like a bitter employee to me.And its better for him to have been reactive then not active at all..
