Federal Program Offers Half-Priced Homes

WASHINGTON -- A new federal program provides huge savings for potential homebuyers, but there are a few strings attached.

The Good Neighbor Next Door program from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department offers 50 percent discounts on the list prices of certain homes. However, to qualify buyers must be a full-time teacher, law enforcement officer or firefighter, and agree to live in the house for three years.

ok...I remember seeing cramped newly built townhomes in Alexandria running between 500-750K during the "boom", now, I see those same homes getting auctioned for 175-225K. Much like those Crisfield condos, that during the boom were 300K, now are hardly getting a bidder at 99K. It's better to get them off the books and into the hands of new owners then it is to sit on a pile of devaluing properties.

Must be a teacher, law enforcement officer or firefighter? Does this reak of discrimination to any one else? It's just another public "servant" union perk on our dime.

How is it on your dime moron? Perhaps you should turn back on the home shopping network, wait for your meals on wheels delivery and hope the reaper doesn't visit tonight
