How The Good Old Boy System Actually Works

Take Pittsville for example. You see, nowhere else in the Country do you get a letter dated on the first, mailed on the 8th, delivered on the 9th with demands something be done by the following day.

I was lucky to actually have my Wife deliver this to me this morning and even luckier that I had nothing to do, bored enough to open a piece of mail from Pittsville.

It seems Pittsville isn't too happy with my lawn height on my property there and I can't say as I blame them. Out of sight, out of mind. I do have someone contracted to do the regular scheduled cutting and last year the Town would actually go on my property without ANY warning and cut the grass in between my contractor doing so. The next thing I knew, when I went to go pay the taxes on the property were all these additional charges for mowing.

I will make a phone call to the Town this morning and give them a piece of my mind but considering Paul Wilber is their Town attorney with a bug up his rear end, I can probably expect the Town to be on my property tomorrow morning no matter what happens.

Yeah, the good old boys are alive and well. In the mean time, do you think it's legal to mail a letter drafted on the 1st, mailed on the 8th, delivered on the 9th with a demand to have something done by the 11th?????

I'm learning there is little fair in this county. When someone chooses to try to destroy someone, they stoop to any measure. Our county needs help!

The courts will say no because there was no time to take action...

You won't have a problem... I would mention that to them joe....

Why would it take them 7 days to mail it?

Anonymous said...

It takes seven days for them to stop kissing up to one another for someone to lick the stamp and envelope ...

Anonymous said...

Maybe the delay was because it was sent to Delmar and you don't live there anymore?

Anonymous 8:36am LOL

No, I do not believe it is legal nor reasonable. What ever happened to someone doing their job just a little bit before a letter like this goes out and thinking that this is absolutely ridiculous to ask someone to get this accomplished in a day. Suppose you were on vacation, out of the country, sick, anything....Hey Pittsville, I'm available if you need someone down there to think for you.

According to the metered "stamp" on that letter, it was "mailed" from Wilmington (ZIP CODE 19850)!

So now the question you have to ask here is "Why are official mailings from the town of Pittsville being sent from Wilmington"??

Can't they send their official letters from the local Pittsville Post Office?

Or have we opened another can of worms with this issue??

Joe, in regards to Pittsville... really dumb question... and I hope by all means you could possibly post this on your main page.

I've grown up in Pittsville and now I own my own house and I have a small family with a 1 year old. I live "in town" Pittsville. My point... THE FIRE WHISTLE! I fail to see a use for it. It blows for 3-4 minutes and I guess recently Pittsville FD hasn't been responding in a timely fashion so they blow it again for another 3-4 minutes. This happened TWICE last night! 16 minutes of nothing but fire whistle noise, I thought America was under some massive attack. My 1 year old son refuses to go to sleep afterwards because it's so loud.

In the world of pagers and cell phones is there still a need to wake up firemen at 3am via a fire whistle that blows for 3 - 4 minutes?

I've heard people complain about it over and over again. Many people say they have complained in person and they REFUSE to change it so they REFUSED to donate any money to the fire department until the whistle is deactivated during sleeping hours.

The siren is used in case pagers are not or members don't have them on. Siren runs for two minute cycles. Last night was for 2 false alarms at the school.
And you say you grew up in pittsville??????
Then you should have been aware of the siren. Its been there fire 83 years.
Lastly, the siren is used for civil defense alerts as well...

You grew up there. You knew there was a fire siren. You bought a house near the firehouse. You need to live with it. Don't buy a house next to church if you don't like church bells on Sunday mornings.

To those of you stating property owners should have known, that's bull.

When I purchased property directly across the street from the Fire House, the realtor never mentioned anything about a fire siren.

There was a day I went into one of my buildings and that siren went off and I have to tell you, it was absolutely scary.

It was the loudest sound I had ever heard and there was no place in any of my buildings in which we could get away from such noise. You had to hang up the phone and call people back.

As for the excuse of just in case a pager doesn't go off, what a load of crap! The siren should be shut down and the commenter is 100% correct.

Now look, I love everything about the Pittsville VOLUNTEER Fire Department, with exception to that siren. Come on people, its 2012, not 1957.

The siren that is operating now is a lot lower pitch and volume than the older siren it replaced 7, 8 years ago
And lastly, where have you seen a firehouse without a siren? Just asking.....

had same type of problem with pittsville about a year ago. called wilbur's office and asked for a call back from him. he never called back, but the problem was mysteriously settled...hmmmmm

Wilber ? Who is that ? I know almost all the lawyers in the area , but this one. You sure he isn't an aid or legal something?
Anyway , I guess he's pissed about the city situation and him getting the boot.

About the fire siren , they have to wake up a bunch of drunks most of the time. If you hear it again , the drunks are still in bed or at the local bar.
Most of these FD are similar in that respect , respond to a call , ruin a dwelling with axes and water , go back home and get a re-
kindle call.
Wesrside had a beer machine in the firehouse rather than a soda machine.

Just like here - they'll make it legal.....

IF it ws you or your family who needed the local fire department i bet you would not complain about it going off in the middle of the night if they were coming to your rescue?!?!

That letter wasn’t mailed in that envelope. Look at the location of the window on the envelope and the location of the address on the letter.

Pittsville is corrupt good ole boy big time

That happens in the City of Salisbury all the time. Now they cut your grass and just say they sent a letter. They will cut your grass as they see you loading your mower from just cutting it. Man says if I'm coming here, I'm getting paid...If you become Mayor you need to disolve that department, Dont fire them. Put shovels in their hands and hire some honest people and form a new department

Anonymous said...

They used to do the same thing to the house down the street that the people left 3 years ago. I guess the bank was sending someone to cut it every 2 weeks. I would see the bank cut it and 2 days later the town would come out and cut it again. I'm still wondering why this house has not be sold or something done with it.

Anonymous said...

The real question is, why do you need to have the Town send you a letter to tell you your grass is too tall? You have a responsibility to know that it is too tall. There shouldn't even be a warning. If it is too tall, the town should just cut it and send you a bill.

Anonymous said...

It is not that grass is way too tall. Salisbury finds the tallest blade, sticks a ruler with nail it it in the ground. They then take a picture for evidence. We the taxpayers are paying for this when we can't get our potholes fixed..

The town of Pittsville doesn't use envelops with windows.

Yes they sure do. I still have the top portion of my water bill right here and it does have a window on it.
I guess you don't live in the town.
