Another 10 cases of polio-like disease confirmed

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Tuesday it has confirmed 10 more cases of an extremely rare, polio-like condition, across 24 states.

That brings the total number of cases of acute flaccid myelitis to 72, up from 62 earlier this month, mostly in kids under 18.

However, health officials still do not know what is driving the outbreak, which affects the spinal cord, causing the muscles and reflexes in the body to become weak.

AFM is not new, but cases have been on the rise since 2014.

Though the condition remains very rare - affecting only one in a million people in the United States - CDC director Dr Robert Redfield, who took the job in March this year, says it is the agency's top priority.

Scientists are investigating a number of causes, including viruses, environmental toxins and genetic disorders.

But today Dr Redfield urged Americans not to fear the rare polio-like illness sweeping the US as he believes it is not transmissable from human to human.

He told CBS This Morning that he is certain AFM is caused by a specific virus, rather than inter-personal contact.

'I've recently asked again to put together a task force to really try to look at where we're at, and what else could we do to try to solve this problem,' Dr Redfield said.

'The good news is that it doesn't appear to be transmissible from human to human. We don't see clustering in families.'

"Organized Busing Operation" Exposed, Moving Migrants Closer To US Border

Traveling at a sluggish pace of 10 miles per day, the migrant caravan probably wouldn't arrive at the nearest US border crossing at McAllen, Texas until February, according to one observer, who debunked claims widely circulated by the media that the caravan would arrive before the Nov. 6 midterm election.

But as it turns out, the organizations that have been aiding the caravan since it first formed in Honduras nearly three weeks ago have already accounted for this. And to help ensure that images of border patrol agents arresting families and separating small children from their parents are flashing across cable news in the days and hours before the polls open, these groups are employing a new tactic: Busing.

That's right. As Fox News report on Tuesday showed, migrants traveling with the caravan are being loaded on to chartered buses and transported to the next stop on the trail to the US, having refused Mexico's offer of asylum, shelter and jobs should they opt to stay in the country. Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins revealed that multiple professional buses have lined up to board the migrants, as footage from the report showed.

Halloween Decorations With Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi On Gravestones Raise Few Hackles

NEWHALL (CBSLA) — A resident in Newhall is pushing back against allegations his Halloween decorations depicting the headstones of politicians are offensive, but some say it’s a step too far.

The resident, who did not wish to be interviewed on camera, has a fake graveyard in his front yard with the names of Michael Jackson and Prince as tribute, and Kim Jong Un’s name over a mushroom cloud. Many others have the names of liberal politicians Gavin Newsom, Hillary Clinton, Jerry Brown and Nancy Pelosi, among others, plastered on the the front. He said he has done it for the past eight years and that people need to get over it, but one man running for Santa Clarita City Council told CBS2 News they should come down.

Governor Larry Hogan Statement on University of Maryland Actions

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today issued the following statement regarding the University System of Maryland Board of Regents’ announcement of the results of their investigation into the University of Maryland, College Park athletic program:

"First and foremost, we cannot lose sight of the events that led to the Board of Regents’ investigation. The death of Jordan McNair was a terrible tragedy that should never have occurred and must never be forgotten.

“I’ve said from the beginning that this was a very serious matter that required action and transparency. Although our administration was not a part of the process and I do not know how the regents arrived at their conclusions, in the weeks ahead, we will be pushing for assurances that the issues outlined in the report will be effectively addressed.

“University leadership still faces the considerable challenge of restoring the trust of students, families, and faculty, and proving that there is and will be accountability for any actions that adversely impact student welfare and the standing of our flagship university. The addition of an oversight board seems to be a positive step, but many will understandably question whether enough has been done to address the serious concerns that exist among many in the College Park community - I am one of them.

“It is incumbent upon the regents, President Loh, and the College Park athletic department leadership to build a stronger athletic program where student athletes are always treated with dignity and respect, and to ensure that UMD remains a world-class academic institution that fosters a safe and supportive environment where all students can achieve their dreams.”

Tech Elites Keeping Devices Out of Their Children's Schools

After a New York Times report highlighted that Silicon Valley tech elites are keeping digital devices out of the schools of their children, Tucker Carlson said on Monday they're doing so because they know that "screens are poison."

Author and psychotherapist Tom Kersting said on Tucker Carlson Tonight that the idea that digital devices will benefit students has now proven to be "absolutely false."

He said that tech in the classroom is affecting kids' emotions, contributing to anxiety, depression and suicide.

"Maybe now we can educate other parents that aren't as aware as these Silicon Valley tech execs are."

Gillum Fought U.S. 'Colonialism' as Youth Director of Extremist Org

ORLANDO, Fl. – Florida gubernatorial candidate and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum served as the director of a radical youth training organization whose mission was to challenge U.S. “predatory capitalism,” abolish the prison system, fight a “spiritual resistance” battle against “Christian hegemony,” redefine the meaning of “borders” while aiding “undocumented” aliens, and enact the “collective liberation” of “communities of color” amid what it described as the scourge of “white supremacy.”

Gillum’s group accused the U.S. of being a “colonialist” power perpetrating “structural violence” and “continued genocide.” It claimed conservatives in the U.S. judicial system were “justifying white supremacist policing practices.”

All of that extremist rhetoric and more was posted on the official “issues” sections of the organization’s website while Gillum not only served as its active director, but while his picture, position and bio were brandished on the same site on the “staff” page.

The first contingents began arriving to camp out in Tapachula's main plaza on Tuesday.

Gerbert Hinestrosa, 54, of Santa Barbara in Honduras, is traveling with his wife and teenage son. He said he realizes how hard it will be to make it to the US border.

'Right now I feel good,' he said. 'We have barely started, but I think it is going to be very difficult.'

#WalkAway From Dems Rally Draws Hundreds of America-Loving Patriots

The gathering at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC, on Saturday was a stark contrast to recent rallies where people dressed in black and held signs disparaging President Donald Trump and members of his administration.

The #WalkAway rally featured a sea of red, white, and blue-clad participants, waving flags, wearing Make America Great hats, and even pussy hats made infamous during the Women’s March were transformed into bright red, Trump-supporting headgear.

The success of a weekend of events to support Trump and Republicans ahead of the midterm elections on November 6 even impressed Brandon Straka, the former Democrat who launched the #WalkAway movement five months ago when he posted a video on his Facebook page urging others who are fed up with the failed policies and mob rule mentality of today’s Democrat Party to leave it.

Don Lemon: ‘The Biggest Terror Threat in This Country Is White Men’

Monday on CNN, network host Don Lemon declared “the biggest terror threat in this country” to be white men, adding that “most of them radicalized to the right.”

Lemon made those remarks in reference to the fatal shooting of two black people in Kentucky, the bombs mailed to political figures, and the shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, which killed 11 people.

Lemon said, “Now, another one. And then you have all of them in a row. And, you know, we talked, we messaged about it a little bit this weekend. I keep trying to point out to people and not to demonize any one group or any one ethnicity. But we keep thinking that the biggest terror threat is something else, someone people who are marching, you know, towards the border, like it’s imminent. And the last time they did this, a couple hundred people came, and you know, most of them did get into the country, most of them got tuckered out before they even made it to the border.”

Democratic Attacks: Who's Paying?

One thing is for sure: the Democrats never give up trying to pull fast ones on their Republican opponents and force them to defend and explain things the Republicans never in a million years thought they'd have to defend and explain. Recent political history abounds with incidences of political attacks intended to blindside the Republicans, force them off their game, pull them far off message, and generally reset the daily political narrative to language the Democrats prefer. That these attacks are almost always spectacularly unsuccessful doesn't dissuade the Democrats from trying again and again.

A notable recent Democratic attempt was Dianne Feinstein's astonishing 11th-hour, 59th-minute ambush of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh with the totally unsubstantiated, embarrassingly vague "charges" of supposed sexual misconduct some unspecified number of years ago by Kavanaugh against one Christine Blasey Ford. The whole episode was laughable on its face from a legal standpoint: if you gave a Democratic defense lawyer a case in which the accuser couldn't identify the time or location when and where the incident allegedly took place, couldn't produce any corroborating witnesses, and demonstrably had lied in her basic story (Ford said she was afraid to fly yet had provably flown on multiple occasions for both personal and professional reasons), the defense lawyer would not merely be giddy with how easily the case could be won with "reasonable doubt," but would likely go to the judge and ask that the case be dismissed entirely for lack of evidence. No doubt, the request would be granted. It was and remains a ludicrous, transparent political ploy of the lowest kind.

Land O'Lakes could face boycott over donation to Iowa republican Steve King

Land O'Lakes faces calls for a boycott over the dairy company's financial support for Rep. Steve King, an Iowa Republican who has drawn fire for what critics say are his links to white nationalists.

Among other things, King has stirred controversy by refusing to delete a retweet of a British activist and prominent Nazi sympathizer, Mark Collett, and has displayed a confederate flag on his desk in Washington. King in September also endorsed a candidate for mayor of Toronto who has espoused white supremacist views.

Democrats Admit Kavanaugh Mistreatment Backfiring in Midterms

Democrat strategists are now publicly admitting that the Senate Democrats’ mistreatment of now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh harmed their chances in the midterm elections. The damage hit both their once-long-shot-but-now-virtually-non-existent odds at retaking the Senate and their very real shot at retaking the House.

“The Kavanaugh hearings did set us back, but it depended on geography,” Democrat pollster Ben Tulchin said in an on-record quote to Politico for a piece published Tuesday. Tulchin argued that Democrats were hurt in rural and suburban areas by the way they treated Kavanaugh, while bolstered in inner cities they were already set to win, saying “the more upscale districts, where we’ve done well all cycle, it was to our benefit there, and in more downscale districts with rural pockets, it was a challenge.”

Politico, in its piece, summarizes just how bad the polling shifted against Democrats in the wake of the Kavanaugh hearings:

Coast Guard repatriates 84 Haitian migrants

MIAMI — The Coast Guard Cutter Thetis (WMEC-910) crew repatriated 84 Haitian migrants Tuesday to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

While on routine patrol the cutter Thetis crew located an overloaded 42-foot migrant vessel dead in the water Sunday approximately 30 miles southwest of Turks and Caicos Islands, arrived on scene and safely embarked 84 migrants for safety of life at sea concerns.

A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew forward deployed to Great Inagua, Bahamas provided overhead support.

"The overloaded vessel we interdicted was dead in the water and lacked basic safety equipment such as life jackets and flotation devices, which could have led to a fatal accident at sea," said Cmdr. Randall Chong, commanding officer of the cutter Thetis. "I am very proud of my crew on the cutter Thetis for finding, aiding, and ultimately rescuing all persons on board and, we will continue to patrol the Caribbean and Florida Straits to ensure safety of life at sea."

Once aboard Coast Guard cutters, all migrants receive food, water, shelter and medical attention.

Approximately 132 Haitian migrants have attempted to illegally migrate to the U.S. via the maritime environment since Oct. 1 compared to 2,488 Haitian migrants in fiscal year 2018. These numbers represent the total number of at-sea interdictions, landings and disruptions in the Florida Straits, the Caribbean and Atlantic.

The cutter Thetis is a 270-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Key West, Florida.

SPLC Leads Soros-Funded Groups in Attempt to Ban 'Hate Speech' on Social Media

Last week, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) teamed up with five other groups funded by George Soros to pressure tech companies to "reduce hateful activities on their platforms." While this sounds like a noble goal, mainstream conservative and Christian groups that have fallen afoul of the SPLC warned that these liberal organizations have an "Orwellian" definition of hate that most Americans would disagree with. Worse, social media companies already seem biased against conservatives, and this SPLC campaign would only embolden that bias.

On Wednesday, the SPLC led a coalition of groups in releasing "Change the Terms," aiming to convince Big Tech to "reduce hateful activities on their platforms." The coalition warned that "white supremacist and other organizations that incite hate are using online platforms to organize, fund, recruit supporters for, and normalize racism, sexism, religious bigotry, as well as anti-LGBTQ and anti-immigrant animus, among other activities."

While the overwhelming majority of Americans abhor wicked ideologies like white supremacy, the SPLC boldly associates its political opponents with similar "hate," smearing them as "hate groups" to be compared with the KKK.

"It's obviously concerning that they want to censor free speech, and of course their definition of 'hate speech' is not what most people think of as hate speech," Mat Staver, founder and chairman of the Christian legal nonprofit Liberty Counsel, told PJ Media.

U.S. Military Sending Miles and Miles of Concertina Wire to SW Border

"By the end of this week, we will deploy over 5,200 soldiers to the Southwest Border," as part of Operation Faithful Patriot, Air Force Gen. Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy, head of the U.S. Northern Command, told a news conference on Monday.

"That is just the start of this operation. We'll continue to adjust the numbers and inform you of those."

The 5,200 active duty troops are in addition to the 2,092 National Guard troops deployed earlier this year. The soldiers will "harden the points of entry and address key gaps in areas around the points of entry."

And that's not all:

"We have enough concertina wire to cover up to 22 miles already deployed already to the border. We have additional concertina wire that we can string, with over 150 miles available. Additionally, looking at where the reinforcers are needed so we can get it exactly where CBP wants us to put it," O'Shaughnessy said.

"We're also bringing three highly experienced and capable combat engineering battalions with expertise in building temporary vehicle barriers, fencing -- and we’re bringing them in with heavy equipment which, as we speak right now, is line-hauling towards Texas."

Snitch on a teacher: Bolsonaro win sparks push against 'indoctrination'

A newly elected lawmaker from the party of Brazil’s right-wing president-elect, Jair Bolsonaro, has launched a campaign to encourage students to denounce teachers who complain about his victory.

The call came days after electoral authorities raided university events and classes about fascism on the pretext that they had broken electoral rules, and has raised fears of that Bolsonaro’s historic victory on Sunday will lead to ideological persecution.

Ana Campagnola, a history teacher, was elected to the state legislature in the southern state of Santa Catarina for Bolsonaro’s Social Liberal party in the election’s first round on 7 October.

On Sunday, she launched her campaign on Facebook, telling her 70,000 followers to be on the lookout for “indoctrinator teachers” who expressed outrage over Bolsonaro’s victory.

A WhatsApp number was provided for students to “film or record any party-political or ideological expressions that humiliate or offend your freedom of faith and conscience”.

Second caravan has members armed with explosives

The second migrant caravan, believed to be armed with bombs and guns, crossed into Mexico on Monday despite a huge police presence.

Hundreds of migrants following in the footsteps of the first caravan heading to the U.S. border crossed a river from Guatemala.

A low-flying police helicopter hovered overhead as the migrants waded in large groups through the Suchiate River's murky waters, apparently trying to use the downdraft from its rotors to discourage them.

Once on the Mexican side the migrants were surrounded and escorted by black-uniformed officers as sirens wailed.

The second group back at the Guatemalan frontier has been more unruly than the first that crossed. Guatemala's Interior Ministry said Guatemalan police officers were injured when the migrant group broke through border barriers on Guatemala's side of the bridge.

Mexico authorities said migrants attacked its agents with rocks, glass bottles and fireworks when they broke through a gate on the Mexican end but were pushed back, and some allegedly carried guns and firebombs.

Elder: ‘Porous Borders Are Allowing Illegal Aliens to Take Jobs’ from Minorities

Radio show host Larry Elder told Breitbart News on Saturday that porous borders affect minority communities, adding that many black people know this and are in favor of securing U.S. borders.

“I do feel there’s a great deal of momentum right now for the black conservative movement,” said Elder. “I just saw an NAACP poll that said 21 percent of blacks now support Trump. That is seven times the support that Trump got in 2016. So something is clearly happening,”

“And that something is this,” continued Elder. “Trump is doing something about illegal immigration.”

“A lot of people don’t think [illegal immigration] is an issue that black people care about, but it turns out that according to studies, porous borders are allowing illegal aliens — particularly those who are unskilled — to take jobs away from inner city blacks and browns, and they put downward pressure on their wages.”

“If you look at polls, blacks are far more supportive of doing something about the borders than their counterparts in the Democrat Party,” said Elder.

According to local public safety director Jaime Marroquin, authorities were housing 21 men, five women, and three children which were in the process of being deported. The migrants reportedly set fires to give cover to their escape.

NYT Scoop: Kavanaugh’s Georgetown Prep Class Had 35th Reunion This Weekend—And They Drank Beer

The New York Times scored another huge scoop on Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh over the weekend: His Georgetown Prep class had its 35th reunion celebration and some of Kavanaugh’s classmates—although apparently not Kavanaugh himself—drank beer at the event.

The Times also somehow managed to get a recording of Georgetown Prep’s president speaking to the alumni gathering—although not one of Kavanaugh’s classmates would return calls from the Times.

The reunion took place on the same weekend as Georgetown Prep’s homecoming football game, which Kavanaugh attended.

“At one point during the football game, Justice Kavanaugh prepared to pose for a picture with former classmates,” the Times breathlessly reported. “First, though, he instructed everyone to put down their beers, according to a person who witnessed the exchange. (Justice Kavanaugh didn't appear to be drinking.)”

Why does the media let Obama get away with such bald faced lying on the stump?

When I see former President Obama and others lecturing Trump about lying, bragging that no one got charged in the Obama administration, blaming Trump for political and racial division and claiming credit for the booming economy, I long for journalists who will correct the record. Sadly, there aren’t many out there so I will try to do their job.

The first thing that needs to be corrected is when Obama is given credit for bringing us out of the 2008 recession. The truth is that the economy came out in June 2009, 110 days after Obama took office -- before any of his policies could have had an effect on the economy. Three main things brought the economy out. 1. TARP where banks and others were loaned money (that they mostly paid back) to shore up their capital base. 2. The Federal Reserve rapidly dropping interest rates and injecting massive amounts of liquidity into the markets. 3. Rapidly dropping oil prices. Obama had little or nothing to do with those policies or actions.

Migrant Caravan Is Reportedly Already Bigger Than Many U.S. Towns

The caravan making its way through various parts of Central America to the U.S. border has already swelled to around 14,000 people, according to a major Mexican newspaper. This staggering statistic, and even more conservative estimates, would render the mass of migrants larger than many American towns and communities, according to a review of U.S. census data.

El Universal claims to have received the 14,000 number from “municipal authorities, [southwestern Mexican city] Tapachula’s diocese, and the National Migration Institute.” According to The Daily Mail, the number includes up to 10,000 in the main Mexican caravan, 1,500-2,000 more in a second Guatemalan caravan, and an additional 2,500 “planning to mobilize” in Honduras and El Salvador. The Mexican National Migration Institute cited by El Universal did not respond to The Daily Caller’s request for comment in time for publishing.

Reports conflict regarding the exact number of people who comprise what the Associated Press has described as “the biggest [migrant caravan] ever.” A U.N. spokesperson gave a more conservative estimate last week, claiming that there were 7,200 individuals in the caravan. The Mexican government claimed last Tuesday it was even smaller, at around 4,500 people.

The Simpsons will write off Apu after stereotype backlash

Producers are reportedly planning to write the brown-skinned shopkeeper off the animated show in an effort to silence allegations of racial stereotypingabout Indian-Americans.

Producer Adi Shankar, who does not work for the show, said Fox will “drop the Apu character altogether,” according to his interview with IndieWirepublished Friday. “They aren’t going to make a big deal out of it, or anything like that, but they’ll drop him altogether just to avoid controversy.”

The Indian-American producer said two people who work for the long-running show and one who work for its creator, Matt Groening, told him the “disheartening news.”

Shankar set out to save Apu earlier this year by crowd-sourcing a script that would make the character more PC with a storyline that “evolves him in a way that takes a creation that was the byproduct of a predominately Harvard-educated white male writers’ room and transforms it into a fresh, funny and realistic portrayal of Indians in America,” Shankar said.

Trump targeting birthright citizenship with executive order

Why it matters: This would be the most dramatic move yet in Trump's hardline immigration campaign, this time targeting "anchor babies" and "chain migration." And it will set off another stand-off with the courts, as Trump’s power to do this through executive action is debatable to say the least.

Mexican Ambassador to U.S.: Some in Migrant Caravan ‘Very Violent

The leftist media are pushing the narrative that the thousands of migrants from Central America and elsewhere are just people fleeing violence in their homeland, but during an interview with National Public Radio on Monday, Geronimo Gutierrez, the Mexican ambassador to the U.S., described some of them as “very violent.”

“I want to begin with the facts here,” Morning Edition host Steve Inskeep said. “Seven thousand or so people, which is a lot of people – looks like a lot on TV.”

“But I do know it’s part of this much larger, somewhat ordinary flow of migrants,” Inskeep said. “So how serious a situation is this in the view of your government?”

Gutierrez called it a “humanitarian crisis” and said the Mexican government is “urging people” to enter the country in accordance with its immigration law and that migrants can seek refugee status in Mexico.

“There was an effort to stop them at the border with Guatemala,” Inskeep said. “And in the end, the government more or less let them in. Is that right?”

“We have been trying to avoid, at all costs, violence in the border,” Gutierrez said. “Unfortunately, some of the people in the caravan have been very violent against authority, even though that they have offered the possibility of entering in compliance with immigration law and refugee status.”

Snow authored an article published on Oct. 25 highlighting then-unreported inconsistencies in a signed declaration from a woman whom celebrity attorney Michael Avenatti claimed could corroborate his client Julie Swetnick’s allegation that she witnessed Kavanaugh drugging and sexually abusing girls when he was just 15 years old.

Armed Migrants in Caravan Opened Fire on Mexican Cops, Say Authorities

Mexican authorities arrested two Hondurans who allegedly shot at federal police officers escorting the migrant caravan across the southern state of Chiapas. The attack follows shortly after government warnings about Molotov cocktail attacks around a second caravan near the border with Guatemala.

The attack took place near Ignacio Zaragoza, Chiapas, when members of Mexico’s Federal Police were escorting the migrant caravan as part of “Operativo Caminante” or “Operation Walker” across the southern border state. According to Mexico’s Interior Secretariat, two men identified only as 22-year-old “Jerson” and 17-year-old “Carlos” spotted the group of police officers guarding the caravan and began firing at them.

The attackers’ pistol jammed, allowing police officers to arrest them without any injuries. Federal authorities seized a .380 caliber Glock with nine rounds still in the magazine.

WASHINGTON — The recent pipe bombs never exploded, but the damage was severe, according to retired police chief Charles Moose, who 16 years ago this week fronted the effort to capture two snipers who murdered 10 people in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

In October 2002, Moose was in his third year as chief of the Montgomery County, Maryland police department when John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo teamed up to terrorize the region by gunning down innocent citizens from the trunk of a 1990 Chevrolet Caprice.

Moose told WTOP how he felt last week, as more than a dozen pipe bombs were mailed to high-profile Democrats and critics of President Donald Trump over several days.

SATIRE: On Gender, Left Steps Up Effort Against Notorious Hate Group: Reality

U.S.—On trans and gender equality issues, the left have increased their effort against the notorious hate group constantly working against them: reality.

"Reality has for a long time dictated people's beliefs about men and women," said activist Rebecca Vaughn. "And it's time for people to finally stand up against it."

Reality is notoriously stubborn on issues of sex and gender, imposing chromosomes on people that tend to divide them into two distinct groups, male and female, and making the two groups different in immutable ways. This has been the main cause of sexism and gender inequality throughout history, but now many on the left are ready to take it on.

Gun thefts soar in Richmond region and the consequences can be devastating

Every day last year at least one gun on average was reported stolen from someone's car or truck in the Richmond metropolitan area.

When including homes, businesses and other locations, nearly 2.5 firearms were reported stolen on average each day in either Richmond or the counties of Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover.

The thefts have been rising over the past decade, and authorities say there's no sign it will abate until gun owners take more responsibility for securing their firearms, especially in their vehicles.

Local police have taken 5,873 reports of firearm thefts in the region from 2010 to 2017, and many of those involve the loss of multiple weapons. Nearly one-third of the total were taken from vehicles - a great many of which were unlocked.
