Mayor Jim Ireton Is Killing Salisbury Maryland

NOTHING pisses me off more than to watch the above going on in Downtown Salisbury. You see, every Thursday when the Opportunity Shop is getting ready to open their doors, along comes the parking meter staff to start writing tickets.

As I stated the other day, there's only 12 parking spaces, many of which were already taken before these customers came by. The rest are permit parking and most of the people visiting the Opportunity Shop are elderly.

Trust me, if I become Mayor I will immediately take away those parking meters in Lot 15 as well as most of the permit parking. We WILL encourage economic and development in Downtown Salisbury and NOT punish those people truly here to do business and spend money.

I need your support and I'll need your vote. Enough is enough.

This is ridiculous. The mayor must be retaliating after what you said on pac14.

Joe can you please clarify for me? Why can't those people use the free 2 hour lot? It is literally right there.

These carpetbaggers are like vultures!
Look at her!
Vic is the same now.
"Time to go get the revenue"!
I actually heard him say that once.
These people are scumbags.
Targeting people shopping at the opportunity shop?

anonymous 10:22, you and I might know about the 2 hour free parking but where is there a sign in this lot encouraging people to go there. There is none. MOST people have no idea about 2 hour free parking, come on now.

Secondly, our taxes are through the roof down here. We have NOT ONE parking space for our businesses and not a single service provided by the City either.

If you come to get a sub at the new Deli, come to get fitted for a wedding dress, come to get your hair style, come to get a barber cut, come to get a great deal at the Opportunity Shop, come visit Salisbury News, there's only 12 parking spaces in that lot for ALL of us. Its stupid.

On top of that, once you turn onto Division Street, where's the signs for 2 hour free parking. Heck, where's ANY sign for parking at all? THERE IS NONE. So stop trying to defend the Mayor. I spoke up 10 days ago and believe you and me, the Mayor was made well aware of my message about parking.

All he has done is call in the dogs to write even more tickets. He's a little kid in a suit and that's all there is to it.

Joe, If you become mayor, will you please for the love of god, make the parking authority take a pad and pen and write down all the tag plates for the people registered and are supposed to be and are allowed to park in these lots? or for god sacks take a few hundred from my tax money and spend it on some walkies talkies so they can communicate back and forth... I have been working here for 7 years and have the same car in the same spot, and they know who I work for and that I am legit, but they are to lazy to check my tag and still give tickets for you not having a sticker in the window... Mind you I keep the darn sticker in the window but since I worked here for 7 years, and since everything has been the same on all stickers, I refuse to update mine, meaning all the info is the exact same except for the expiration date... give me a break... and to add, you will get ticketed twice, once by a meter maid and then by a SBY cop...

anonymous 10:43, it's the small things that tick so many off. One would think they'd recognize the same vehicle after 7 years. Some serious thought has to go into this, like one or two designated and gated parking lots for empployees and residents. Nevertheless, I assure you I will take the time to figure it out, you have my word.

It's not only the Mayor Joe, City Council has a hand in this as well. Where are they on taking action?

Joe, God I hope you get elected. I think it is absolutely ridiculous to have to pay to park when going to do business downtown. I agree with ticketing people in handicapped spots, in fire lanes, for impeding traffic and blocking pedestrian access to the sidewalk; however, you only discourage people from going downtown when you have to pay to do business there.

The downtown area could be so nice. I love going to Berlin and just walking around to the different shops there. Downtown has so much potential and we need someone who has a clear vision to lead the way. Best of luck in the election.

Did she give the person who parked next to the sign "No Parking" a ticket?? They are the ones who deserve it

It's like paying a toll to shop , of course he was a teacher , so I understand.
All of the meters in that area should be handicap if they keep them. The only handicap is clear on the other end.
However they do have an illegal meter too close to the fire hydrant.

There is a sign on business 50 pointing to free parking but after that I have no idea. Used to be one around the library I think but I don't go down there much.

To 10:43:

Just put the new sticker on your car.

A friend and I wanted to try Sushi de Kanpai since we heard good things about their food. We came from Ocean City for lunch and the first parking spot we found had a two hour limit. We had not seen each other in a while and wanted a longer lunch so we tried to find another space. We found another space that had a limit of 45 minutes! Instead of wasting any more time looking for metered spot we went on the southside and parked in the lot with the attendant. It was a real pain! Never did I see two hour free parking. Also, this was during the day. If it was after dark I would feel uncomfortable walking from the lot to the restaurant. I feel bad for Sushi de Kanpai because their sushi was awesome but I don't think the expense and hassle of getting there is something that I want to deal with.

I understand that this would frustrate people but I personally don't think it's that big of a deal. I love the sushi at Kenpai and am there at Happy Hour at least 2x a week. If there are no spots i just park by the library. And I have lived in Salisbury for 30 years and have never been involved in any type of attack downtown or anywhere else for that matter. Maybe i am just lucky. Also i keep 5 buck in quarters in my ash tray just in case i do have to park in a metered spot.

Ireton out in 2012, Albero in 2012!

Mr. Mcgranor said...

That is a parasitic example of that particular kind of revenue making.

@ 12:18

The election isn't until 2013!!!

The revenue from parking violations is probably ate up by the cost of meter people, salary and benefits.

The City of Salisbury needs to stop "nickel-and-diming" its way to prosperity. I have heard more stories about nuisance parking tickets and people getting dinged for having a bit of green on their siding or grass slightly high...meanwhile- the big rental properties absentee landlords get away with having places that look like trash and attract filth....Damnit! I'm tried of being the ugliest place on the Shore! I'm tired of being laughed at by Berlin, Snow Hill, OC, Easton....

Charging for parking downtown is outdated. It should have stopped over 15 years ago

You know, even with free parking, I cannot visualize the Opportunity shop will revitalize Salisbury. Put a big sign in the Opportunity Shop "FREE PARKING" and list the places. Next time they will know.

10:53 Why do you feel you do not have to update your permit. If you do no renew your permit to show a correct expiration date you should get a ticket. The ticket writer may know your car BUT how about others seeing that your permit has expired but no ticket. Cops are not put there to cater to people who do not believe laws should include them. If you do not follow the law than you are breaking the law. Ya understand.

I agree with some of the other posters in regards to 10:43. If your sticker shows it's expired,of course they are going to write you a ticket! Stop being lazy and put a new sticker on your car! Wow.

Don't blame the council. Ireton has already announced he is King of Salisbury and they don't matter.
