I'm Not Your Sheepdog

Like many Americans, I frequently carry a gun. I’ve done so for over 30 years without ever laying hand to it in need. Professor John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center reports that some 12.8 million people, over 5.2% of the adult U.S. population, are licensed to carry a concealed handgun. In addition to concealed carry license holders in all 50 states, 7 states require no permit at all for concealed carry, and 40 states have few restrictions on carrying as long as the gun is visible. On top of that, as I have reported recently, there appears to be a growing trend among people who routinely carry a firearm to also routinely ignore signs that tell them they can’t. It is a growing form of civil disobedience that puts no one at increased risk of death or injury. As the number of concealed carriers grows, violent crime continues to fall. This doesn’t prove that more guns equals less crime, but it irrefutably proves that more guns do not equate to more crime.

Unless you live in one of the extremely restrictive states like New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts, any time you are on the street or anywhere that does not have controlled access, with metal detectors and bag searches, etc., there is a fairly high probability that someone nearby is legally carrying a gun. But they are not carrying that gun to protect you.

A popular essay from Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, divided humans into three categories: “Sheep,” “Wolves,” and “Sheepdogs.” I would suggest that Lt. Col. Grossman left out an important fourth category: “Porcupines.”

My wife is neither “sheep” nor “sheepdog,” and she certainly is no “wolf.” She is a “porcupine;” harmless and docile if left alone, but ferocious and dangerous if threatened – even more so if her progeny are threatened. She would choose flight over fight every time, if flight is a viable option. But if flight is not an option, she has the tools, training, and mindset to win the fight.

Our nation’s convoluted laws on self-defense and liability also force all but the most dedicated “sheepdogs” into the role of “porcupine” as well, making “porcupines” the most prevalent variety of armed citizen. We won’t passively stand by while the wolves have their way with us or our families, but neither can we take responsibility for protecting the “sheep” from the “wolves.” Certainly most people who carry would take action to help someone in need if there was an opportunity to do so, and there was no obvious alternative, and while many of us would probably prefer to characterize ourselves as “sheepdogs” rather than “porcupines,” the reality is that protecting you, your spouse, and your children is your responsibility, not ours. You should also be aware that protection of you and your family is not the responsibility of the police either. The courts have conclusively ruled that the police have a duty to protect only the public at large, not individuals.

Muslims in U.S. report spike in discrimination, threats

In the wake of the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, Muslims around the U.S. say the rhetoric against them has becoming increasingly incendiary.

A few weeks ago, armed protesters picketed a mosque in Irving, Texas, some chanting "Every Muslim is a terrorist!"

In Virginia, tempers erupted at a meeting over building a mosque -- one man yelled "every one of you are terrorists" at a Muslim man. Sunday night in Philadelphia, a severed pig's head was found outside a mosque.

And voice messages saying "you're not welcome here, I hope you get sprayed with pig's blood," among other things, was left on an answering machine of the Dallas chapter of CAIR, the Council of American Islamic Relations.

Theft of dozens of propane tanks, purchase of 150 prepaid cell phones in Missouri puts FBI on alert

The FBI has launched an investigation after 150 prepaid mobile phones were bought from local Walmarts in Missouri. This comes after the theft of dozens of propane tanks in the area.

The large number of purchases took place at six Missouri Walmarts at least, authorities say, according to KRCG13.

A large portion of the phones were bought by “three men with accents” at one Walmart near the town of Lebanon, Jefferson City police said. The purchases were made very late, at 3:50am local time on Saturday, authorities said for 59 of the phones. Although the three men were questioned by authorities, nothing further could be done, as there were no grounds for detention.

It was then that the FBI was notified by the Laclede County Sheriff.

The second instance of large purchases was registered on Monday by police in Columbia, two hours north of Lebanon. Five or more men were behind that purchase, which occurred last Friday at 9:30pm.

Martin O'Malley visits a mosque, rips Trump

In a show of solidarity with the American Muslim community, Martin O'Malley visited a mosque and community center in Sterling, Virginia, on Friday, where he told those in attendance that Donald Trump does not represent the future of the United States.

In times of fear and division, the Democratic presidential candidate said at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society, it is easy for "unscrupulous politicians or hate preachers," like Trump, to turn people against each other.

The visit comes days after Trump proposed a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States, claiming "there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population." Trump's idea has been pilloried on the left and the right as either inhumane or purely impractical.

Should Middle Schoolers Have to Pass a US Citizenship Test?

How much do you know about the American government?

That’s what the attorney general of Kansas is asking middle schoolers, as he proposes that the U.S. citizenship test become part of the official school curriculum.

Currently, the test serves as a screening process for immigrants hoping to become American citizens.

But some also say that ensuring kids understand the workings of U.S. democracy could help instill patriotism in this turbulent era of terrorism, Fox 4’s Matt Stewart reported from Kansas City this morning.

Van Hollen: ban gun sales to those on FBI Terrorist list

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen is urging Gov. Larry Hogan to “explore every possible state action” to stop gun sales to dangerous individuals, particularly those on the FBI Terrorist Watchlist.

Van Hollen, a Democrat, sent a letter to the Republican governor Thursday. He noted that Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy, a Democrat, is pursuing a ban on gun sales to those on federal no-fly watch lists.

Matt Clark, a spokesman for Hogan, says Maryland already has a policy in place to address gun-purchase applications from people on the list. Maryland automatically puts a hold on them, and state police contact the FBI for a security check.

Obamacare Fines Rising to Nearly $1,000 for Uninsured

Americans who remain uninsured next year will pay substantially more in penalties to the IRS — an average of $969 per household — under Obamacare rules, according to a new nonpartisan analysis.

That’s a jump from the 2015 penalty of $661 for those who opt out of insurance and are not exempt from the Affordable Care Act, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation analysis.

Individuals pay the penalty when they complete their federal taxes in the spring.

Under the so-called “individual mandate” of Obamacare, the penalty for going uninsured started out at $95 — or 1 percent of family income, whichever was greater — in 2014. In 2016, it will rise to $695 per adult, plus $347.50 per child, up to a maximum $2,085 for a family — or 2.5 percent of family income.

Muslim Students Association Hosts High School ‘Walk a Mile in Her Hijab’ Event

The Muslim Students Association (MSA) of Vernon Hills High School–a public school in Illinois–hosted an event titled “Walk a Mile in Her Hijab,” which was designed to provide non-Muslim students with the opportunity to wear the hijab and understand more about the Muslim faith.

“You can’t really understand or judge a person and their beliefs until you understand why they do it and what it’s like for them to do what they’re doing,” explained Yasmeen Abdallah, president of the school’s MSA. “This event is to hopefully denounce negative stereotypes.”

According to the Daily Herald, six members of the school’s MSA spent an entire morning placing hijabs on 17 non-Muslim girls as they discussed the garb’s meaning and tenets of the Muslim religion.

Says "micro" and "mini" efforts to destroy 2nd Amendment not working

A George Washington University professor suffering from the liberal disease hoplophobia—the irrational and paranoid fear of guns—is calling for total disarmament in the United States.

“Given that even micro gun control measures will be effectively blocked by the NRA and its allies, and that promoting mini measures as potentially effective is misleading, progressives may as well go for the big enchilada: Call for domestic disarmament,” writes Amitai Etzioni, a professor of international relations.

Etzioni, writing for the Huffington Post, suggests electing a president who will stack the Supreme Court and attack the Second Amendment.

He would also have Congress pass legislation making gun manufacturers “liable for harm done with their products” and outlaw the sale of ammunition.

Jury Acquits Delaware Officer Who Kicked Man in the Head of Assault

A jury acquitted a police officer Tuesday of assault after he kicked a suspect in the head, breaking his jaw.

Jurors deliberated for about 16 hours over three days before acquitting Dover police officer Thomas Webster IV of felony assault and misdemeanor assault.

Webster testified he didn't intend to kick Lateef Dickerson in the head in August 2013 and instead was aiming for his upper body. Webster also said he feared for the safety of himself and others because officers were told Dickerson was armed with a gun, and Dickerson was slow to comply with repeated commands to get on the ground.

Prosecutors argued Webster acted recklessly and used excessive force.

Sanders In Baltimore: Conditions Similar To Third-World Country

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders brought his presidential campaign to the epicenter of April's unrest in Baltimore, calling the conditions in the neighborhood similar to a third-world country.

WBAL-TV was there for the crowded tour through west Baltimore which was clearly an eye-opener for Sanders.

As of his impressions of Baltimore, Sanders said he was struck by the lack of banks, grocery stores and overall capital investment.

"One would not know that you're living in the wealthiest country in the history of the world. What you look at is what would a third-world country look like? That's a pretty sad state of affairs. Unemployment off the charts, schools not working, kids getting involved in drugs and ending up in jails rather than having jobs and not having an education. That's not what this country should be about," Sanders said.

Local clergy members served as Sanders' tour guides along Pennsylvania and North avenues.

Officer Porter Claims He Was Unaware Of New Seat Belt Policy, Gray Never Asked For Ambulance

Officer William Porter has participated in more than 150 arrests in his time as a Baltimore police officer. Not one was seat belted in a police transport.

That admission came in testimony from Porter himself, who took the stand in his own defense Wednesday as the second witness his attorneys called to the stand.

Porter is one of six Baltimore City Police officers charged in the April death of Freddie Gray, who died April 19, one week after suffering injuries in a police transport van following his arrest. Gray's death sparked a week of protests, riots, looting and a state of emergency in Baltimore City.

While a new mandatory seat belt policy was emailed to officers three days before Gray's fateful arrest, according to testimony from former police Commissioner Anthony Batts' chief of staff, Porter said he didn't have an app on his department-issued phone to allow him to check his email and would have had to come in early or stay late to read it. The policy was included in what was an 80 page email.

Trump is a monster, a madman and a vile racist. He's just like Hitler. Or Jimmy Carter.

During the Iranian hostage crisis, Carter issued a number of orders to put pressure on Iran. Among these, Iranians were banned from entering the United States unless they oppose the Shiite Islamist regime or had a medical emergency.

Here's Jimmy "Hitler" Carter saying it back in 1980.

Fourth, the Secretary of Treasury [State] and the Attorney General will invalidate all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States, effective today. We will not reissue visas, nor will we issue new visas, except for compelling and proven humanitarian reasons or where the national interest of our own country requires. This directive will be interpreted very strictly.

Muslim lawmaker blames Trump’s rhetoric for death threat

A Muslim lawmaker is blaming the “toxic environment” created by Donald Trump’s rhetoric on Islam for a death threat he received Monday.

Indiana Rep. André Carson said threats of violence against Muslims can be linked to Trump's “demagoguery.” Carson is a practicing Muslim and the first person of that faith to serve on the House Select Committee on Intelligence.

“I just received a death threat yesterday in my own office, and it’s largely in part to this toxic environment,” Carson said on CNN on Tuesday.

He added, “what concerns me is you have the demagoguery taking place from people who are seeking to become president of the United States. You have other politicians who are joining the bandwagon and who are fanning the flames of bigotry.”

Trump On His Plan To Ban Muslims: 'Not Politically Correct, But I Don't Care'

The current leader for the GOP presidential nomination received a standing ovation from a crowd in South Carolina after he read aloud his statement to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S.

The latest pronouncement from the presidential campaign of Donald Trump calls for the U.S. to refuse to let any Muslim — from anywhere — into the United States.

It has prompted very strong criticism, including from some of his fellow Republican candidates and state party leaders.

The Philadelphia Daily News' cover Tuesday morning labels Trump, "The New Furor."

Trump Calls for ‘Total & Complete Shutdown of Muslims Entering’ the U.S. Until ‘Problem’ Is Fixed

Donald Trump on Monday called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” until lawmakers “can figure out what is going on.”

In a statement put out by his campaign, Trump cited a Pew Research study that showed “great hatred toward Americans by large segments of the Muslim population.” The real estate mogul cited another poll, this one from the Center for Security Policy, that found 51 percent “agreed that Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to Shariah.”

U.Md. president recommends renaming Byrd Stadium

WASHINGTON — University of Maryland’s president is recommending a new name for the school’s stadium after its namesake has been accused of being racist.

On Monday, University of Maryland President Wallace D. Loh issued a statement recommending “Byrd Stadium” be changed to “Maryland Stadium.” The Board of Regents will consider the request at its Dec. 11 meeting.

If approved, the university will memorialize Harry Clifton “Curley” Byrd in one of the main libraries, Loh says. Also, he says the university will institute a five-year moratorium on changing honorific building names.

Is This Actual Art In Downtown Salisbury?

The perfect day. January 20, 2017

1. President Donald Trump and Vice-President Ted Cruz are sworn into office.

2. In a rare event on inauguration day, Congress convenes for an emergency meeting to repeal the illegal and unconstitutional Socialist healthcare farce known as Obamacare. The new Director of Health and Social Services, Dr. Ben Carson, announces that an independent group of healthcare management professionals is hired to handle healthcare services for poor and low income people. They are also assigned the duty of eliminating Medicare and Medicaid fraud. Government’s costs for public healthcare are reduced by 90%. Healthcare insurance premiums for working Americans are reduced by 50%. The move saves billions of taxpayer paid dollars. Healthcare service in the U.S. improves 100%.

3. Newly appointed department of Homeland Security, General McChrystal, announces the immediate deployment of Troops to the U.S. Mexico border to control illegal immigration and the immediate deportation of illegals with criminal records or links to terrorist groups. New bio-encrypted Social Security ID’s are required by every American citizen. Birthright is abolished. All immigration from countries that represent a threat to the safety of American citizens is terminated indefinitely. The move saves American taxpayers billions of dollars. Several prisons are closed.

4. Newly appointed Secretary of Business and Economic Development, Mitt Romney, eliminates more than half of the Government agencies operating under the Obama administration saving taxpayers billions of dollars. Stocks rise 100%.

5. Newly appointed Director of Government Finance, Rand Paul, announces the abolition of the IRS and displays a copy of the new Federal Tax Return form. It consists of one page. The instructions consist of two pages. The Federal Reserve is audited. The move saves American taxpayers billions of dollars and increases tax revenue.

6. Hillary Clinton is in jail. Her cell is directly across from Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who are serving time for ‘Hate Crimes." She bitches at them constantly from behind the bars of her cell in what some might call cruel and unusual punishment.

7. Bernie Sanders is in a mental asylum. His room is directly across from Nancy Pelosi, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Chris Matthews and Al Franken. They meet for tea every day at ten and discuss the success and benefits of Communism and Socialism throughout the world. They wonder when the “Mothership” is going to pick them up and return them to their home planets.

8. Windows 12 is released. It is designed for humans, doesn’t try to satisfy the needs of every person on the planet, doesn’t require a degree in nuclear physics to operate and looks just like Windows 7 except it is easier to use.

9. Barack Obama flees the United States under cover of darkness and returns to his homeland of Kenya before his trial for treason begins. He deplanes on a remote jungle airstrip. He was last seen wandering through the jungle singing “Hakuna Matata” with a chimp named Commie.

10. Oscar Meyer announces the introduction of a new cholesterol and fat free pepperoni that tastes just like regular pepperoni. Not to be outdone, Kraft Foods announces the introduction of several varieties of cholesterol and fat free cheeses that taste just like regular cheese.

11. A committee is not established to determine what is causing global cooling. Billions of taxpayer dollars are saved.

12. Dead people are no longer allowed to vote; a huge blow for the Democrat Party.

And this, my friends, constitutes THE PERFECT DAY!

BOMBSHELL: Marco Rubio’s Alleged Mistress Comes Forward

Looks like Marco Rubio has been fooling around with a Washington, DC lobbyist. This was discovered as people dug through his sketchy finances. I will remind you that Rubio accused Cruz of making the US unsafer and aiding the terrorists because Cruz insists that the intelligence agencies adhere to the Constitution. Then Rubio ran false ads in Iowa against Cruz and is having to pull them. Is this the kind of guy we want as president? I don’t think so. It looks like this is being leaked from multiple sources now. Rubio’s run is just about done.

As the 2016 primary continues, more leaders of the political establishment are lining up behind Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). His campaign isn’t close to Donald Trump’s in the polls, but Rubio has benefitted from former Florida Governor Jeb Bush’s failures.

But now, a new investigation by a South Carolina insider lets us know that a “mistress bombshell” is about to explode! Multiple sources are confirming Marco Rubio allegedly had an affair, and it’s a Washington, D.C. lobbyist.

Supposedly, will soon see her picture everywhere! If true, this changes the landscape of the 2016 GOP primary:

Details of the forthcoming scandal are not yet clear, although the allegation involving Rubio and the female lobbyist is reportedly being leaked to “multiple mainstream media outlets” this week.

Delmar High School Marching Band Told Not To Wear Santa Hats In Christmas Parade

Leave it to the Town of Rehoboth Beach to demand that the Delmar Marching Band not wear their Santa Hats because it OFFENDS them.

Yeah, I'll bet if I dyed them RAINBOW colors they would have given a standing ovation!
I just don't know what's more offensive?

A Letter To The Editor: Here we go again

A few years back we fought a battle to close down the dump site on N. West Road operated by Dashiell, due to it being over the Paleo water channel from which we get our drinking water. As does the city of Salisbury. we succeeded and MDE with drew the permits.
Now Wicomico County has apparently lost their mind and are processing the paperwork for the construction of 13 Industrial Chicken houses right on top of the Paleowater channel on the corner of N. West Road and Naylor Mill Road.

Each Chicken House will be 600 feet by 60 feet.

There will be several massive storm water ponds needed for run off.

There will be over 2,500 tons of manure produced annually that will have to be disposed of somehow.

There will be almost 4000,00 square feet of agricultural farmland lost.

Why are we the public just now finding out about this. The comment end date that you can comment is tomorrow December 7th. Sounds like underhanded.

The reference number is MDRCW0243

I think it may be time to get the community to stand up and fight. We picketed before and we are capable of doing it again.
The contact information to send or call concerns is:
County council member Mr. Ernest Davis: 443.397.4247 / email

For MDE go to: Https:// to view the permits.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Our Next President Won't Even Need A Secret Service

Maryland man suggests confiscating scary looking guns via executive order

As Twitchy reported, following the gun massacre at the Inland Region Center in San Bernardino, Calif., the New York Times published its first front-page editorial since 1920, arguing for a ban on certain guns that would “require Americans who own those kinds of weapons to give them up for the good of their fellow citizens.” Confiscation would have sufficed, but “for the good of their fellow citizens” has such a non-fascist ring to it.

Martin O’Malley, who really should drop out of the race for president for the good of his fellow citizens, decided to sign on publicly with the New York Times, declaring in a tweet Friday night that an executive order was the way to go — once he’s president, that is.

Selling Drugs That Result in an Overdose is Now Second Degree Murder in New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office announced on Wednesday that a drug dealer who sells drugs to someone that results in an overdose death will face felony second-degree murder charges. This is intended to discourage dealers from selling heroin and other dangerous drugs.
