Officials at Ohio's Miami University held a press conference on Sunday evening, along with the Ohio Department of Health, Butler County General Health, Middletown Health Department and the Hamilton City Health Department to provide an update on the two individuals at Miami University who were tested for the novel Coronavirus.

The announcement from Gregory P. Crawford, President of Miami University:

"Today we received notification from the Ohio Department of Health that the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) test samples sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were negative. We are so glad to hear that these students are on the road to recovery. I am also particularly grateful to the Ohio Department of Health and the Butler County Health District, as well as Governor DeWine’s office, for their leadership and guidance this past week. Their support was remarkable. I am thankful that Miami leadership and our Student Health Services/TriHealth personnel were prepared to take the right, proactive actions.

"Even with this news, our student health providers ask that we all continue to be proactive in monitoring our health as we are still in peak flu season."

Groundhog Day 2020: Here's what Punxsutawney Phil's prediction is for the rest of winter

As light snow fell early Sunday in western Pennsylvania, the Keystone State's most famous groundhog revealed that warmer days are apparently ahead.

At sunrise on Groundhog Day, members of Punxsutawney Phil's top hat-wearing inner circle revealed the groundhog declared: “Spring will be early, it's a certainty.”

"It's not very often that Phil predicts an early spring, but the groundhog, my friends, predicted an early spring," Fox News Senior Meteorologist Janice Dean said Sunday on "Fox & Friends" while in Miami for Super Bowl LIV.

A Viewer Writes: Disparate Justice in Wicomico

Good morning Joe, I've had this on my mind for some time now. How can we take a Bennett guidance counselor and give him 20 yrs in prison for consensual having sex with his 17 yr old babysitter, but not a word is being brought up about Jake's wife and all of the impropriety surrounding her. I am not a sjw but have an incredible problem with the massive amount of disproportionate justice and selective justice that's been dispensed in our area. I recall the nooses and pitchforks brought out during the charging phase for Allen Mitchell. Inversely everyone was trying to talk about how poor, misunderstood Liz was "a good person" & "her job's very stressful". If our leaders and civil servants don't dispense blind justice with the same tenacity & measurement for crimes against our youth then perhaps it's time for an actual change. We've seen what 'a new day' will get you, but how about a clean slate instead? Would love to see somebody shake the tree long enough. Who knows what would drop down....

Reminders of Kobe Bryant rape allegation circulate online following his death

When news broke that NBA legend Kobe Bryant, 41, had died Sunday in a helicopter crash in California, millions of people expressed their grief on social media.

Others highlighted more negative aspects of his life and legacy. Bryant was accused of rape in Colorado in 2003 by a hotel worker. He admitted to having a sexual relationship with the 19-year-old employee but claimed their interaction was consensual. The case was dropped after Byrant's accuser declined to testify in open court.

Bernie Sanders says first executive orders will reverse everything Trump has done to 'harm immigrants'

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders revealed this week that his first executive orders if elected president will be to “reverse” everything President Trump has done to “harm immigrants.”

“My first executive orders will be to reverse every single thing President Trump has done to demonize and harm immigrants, including his racist and disgusting Muslim ban,” the 2020 hopeful tweeted this week.

The tweet, which received over 18,000 retweets, came shortly after the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to proceed with new rules that make it easier to prevent immigrants from attaining residency status if they require public benefits.

Obama Called Trump "Fascist Who Can't Be Allowed Into White House"

Former President Barack Obama told Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) during the 2016 election that Donald Trump is a 'fascist' who must be kept out of the White House.

The statement, made while Obama's DOJ was using spies to surveil the Trump campaign in the Russiagate scandal, is claimed by Kaine in an upcoming documentary about Hillary Clinton, according to CBS News.

Kaine, Clinton's running mate on the Democratic ticket, recounts the call during an exchange with Clinton that was caught on camera in 2016. Kaine's wife, Anne Holton, was also present.

"President Obama called me last night and said: 'Tim, remember, this is no time to be a purist. You've got to keep a fascist out of the White House,'" Kaine says before adding with a laugh that Obama "knows me and he knows that I could tend to err."

Clinton replies, nodding, "I echo that sentiment."

She then puts her hands to her chest and says, "But that's really — the weight of our responsibility is so huge." -CBS News

Democrats New Push for Assisted Suicide is Ghastly

Once again, Democrats have decided to make a truly evil bill a priority. They have decided to resurrect legislation to legalize assisted suicide:

Medically assisted suicide failed by a single vote in the Maryland General Assembly last year.

Now, advocates who want to make it legal for doctors to prescribe a lethal dose of medication to terminally ill patients seeking to end their lives are launching another push to get the legislation approved, hoping that growing public acceptance of aid-in-dying laws will win over at least one more lawmaker.

We’ve been on this beat for quite a while now. We’ve pointed out why physicians oppose it. We’ve talked about the disenguinity of it supporters on not one, not two, but at least three occasions. But never have desperate pro-suicide forces resulted to this type of nonsense.

As If Mayor Day Hasn't Screwed Up Traffic Enough In Downtown Salisbury Maryland...

Beginning Thursday, January 30, 2020, a private contractor will implement a shift in the traffic pattern at the intersection of Mill Street, West Carroll Street, Riverside Drive and Camden Avenue. Stage 2B of the Temporary Traffic Control Plan will reduce the number of travel lanes in and out of the intersection from W. Carroll Street, creating a 2-lane pattern which will be 1-way in either direction. (See diagram) This pattern modification will allow the contractor to begin the next phase of work on storm drainage, curb and sidewalk. This work will be performed during daytime hours between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Barring unforeseen circumstances and/or delays due to unfavorable weather, this work should be complete no later than March 20.

Commuters should expect delays due to traffic pattern modifications. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained throughout the project. Alternate routes are suggested, but not required. Traffic manager Fannie Rholetter may be contacted with any questions at 302-363-0655.

We regret any inconvenience the pattern modification may cause. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated during the construction of this project. Should you have any questions or need clarification, please contact Tab Book with George & Lynch, Inc. at 302-342-3130 Tbook@geolyn.com or William White with the City of Salisbury Department of Infrastructure and Development at 410-548-3170.

U.S. States That Are Tough to Retire In, Ranked

1. Maryland

Maryland is the worst state to retire in, according to Bankrate.com. It scores terribly in affordability, crime, culture and wellness. The only category where it performed well was weather. In 2018, the state logged 500 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, and the state's major city, Baltimore, ranked as the third most dangerous city in the U.S.

Many retirees choose not to live in Maryland due to awful winter storms, terrible road quality and painful traffic congestion. Also, the state’s high cost of living, taxes and health care costs could have retirees burning through their retirement funds extremely quickly.

How Drag Queen Story Hour Expanded Across America

Drag Queen Story Hours started out as niche events on the West Coast, but these events—aimed at children as young as age 3—have spread to libraries and schools across the United States, dividing local communities.

These story hours are “just what they sound like,” Drag Queen Story Hour’s official website states: drag queens reading to children. The events are designed to be about 45 minutes long for children aged 3 to 8 years old, intended to capture children’s imagination and help children explore their gender fluidity through “glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models.”

Stacey Abrams plans to be president by 2040

Democrat Stacey Abrams, who lost the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election to Republican Brian Kemp, said in an interview released Friday that she has a "plan" to be president of the United States by 2040.

In the FiveThirtyEight interview, part of a series of stories about women running for office, Abrams discusses how race and gender played a role in her failed run for governor and the rumors that she could be a vice presidential candidate. But it was her comments about an even higher office that grabbed the most attention.

"Do you think the country will elect a woman president in the next 20 years?" asked reporter Clare Malone.

"Yes, absolutely," Abrams replied flatly.

Proposed Plan To Absorb Minimum Wage Increase Endorsed

OCEAN CITY- The state’s mandated minimum wage will continue to creep upward to $15 an hour by 2025, but the resort has a plan to absorb the financial impact.

Last year, the General Assembly passed legislation mandating an incremental increase in the state’s minimum wage over the next five years. As a result, the minimum wage will be increased by roughly 75-cents each year, from the $11 rate that began on January 1 to ultimately $15 by 2025.

The mandated increase set pangs of fear and trepidation through local governments struggling to find a way to fund the pay increases while continuing to make ends meet, including Ocean City. On Tuesday, Human Resources Director Wayne Evans and Budget Manager Jennie Knapp outlined a plan to absorb the incremental increases without straining the budget. The plan includes implementing the increases at the lowest end of the town’s pay scale without having them spread across the entire range.

Obama Portraits to Tour the Country in 2021

Portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama will tour the nation from June 2021 through May 2022 so more people can make the “pilgrimage” to see them.

Artists Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald are the first black artists ever included in the National Portrait Gallery’s (NPG) official roster of presidential portraits. Their work has proven extremely popular, to the point of National Portrait Gallery director Kim Sajet characterizing visits to see them as a sort of “pilgrimage.”

In a 2019 article for The Atlantic, Sajet wrote: “Viewing these paintings was turning into a form of secular pilgrimage, and the museum was becoming even more popular as a communal gathering place.” According to an NPG security guard, identified only as “Rhonda” in the piece, one woman even fell to her knees and prayed before the pictures.“No other painting gets the same kind of reactions. Ever,” Sajet said she was told.

Mike Bloomberg unveils $10 million Super Bowl but focuses on gun violence and DOESN'T attack Donald Trump who has also bought a slot during the game

Michael Bloomberg is using his $10 million Super Bowl ad to highlight the work he has done to combat gun violence and enact stricter gun control laws.

The ad will air Sunday as counter-programming to President Donald Trump's ad spot and his pre-game interview with Sean Hannity on FOX.

The combatting ads will both air for 60 seconds, but instead of Bloomberg unveiling an attack ad, like has been reported, the spot will feature a mother who lost her son to gun violence.

The focus underscores the former Republican New York City mayor's efforts to contrast himself with Trump.

Hot Tar Civil Suit Settled

OCEAN CITY- Although the terms have not been disclosed, a civil suit filed by a resort-area resident after burning his feet on a freshly-paved section of Coastal Highway was settled last week.

According to complaint, on May 11, 2018 around 1 p.m., local resident Scott Berry was returning from the beach and crossing Coastal Highway from east to west in the area of 36th Street in a marked crosswalk when he suffered severe burns on both of his feet. The plaintiff crossed Coastal Highway in an area that was recently repaved with fresh asphalt as part of a larger paving project.

The plaintiff originally filed suit in Worcester County Circuit Court against George and Lynch, Inc., the contractor hired by the State Highway Administration (SHA) to complete the Coastal Highway paving project. The case was then moved to U.S. District Court in May 2019. The plaintiff was seeking unspecified damages in excess of $75,000, or what is essentially the jumping-off point for similar civil suits.

Despite Insurance Gains, More in US Can't Afford Doctors

A growing number of Americans find it too expensive to see doctors even though more people have health insurance, a U.S. study suggests.

Over the past two decades, the proportion of adults without insurance dropped to 14.8% from 16.9%, the study found. But during this same period, the proportion of adults unable to afford doctor visits climbed from 11.4% to 15.7%.

Out-of-pocket costs made doctors too expensive for the uninsured, but costs also kept people with coverage from seeing physicians even when they had chronic medical conditions requiring regular checkups.

For people with health benefits, the proportion unable to pay for doctor visits rose from 7.1% to 11.5%.

"The quality of private health insurance is getting worse, and the cost of healthcare is rising significantly," said lead study author Dr. Laura Hawks of the Cambridge Health Alliance and Harvard Medical School in Boston.

"We know that private health insurance plans increasing rely on high premiums, high-deductible health plans . . . high copays and other forms of cost-sharing," Hawks said by email. "All these create financial barriers."

Fox News Cuts Away from President Trump’s Impeachment Defense

Fox News cut away from President Donald Trump’s defense in his Senate impeachment trial several times on Monday in favor of panel discussions or interviews rather than the live feed of the proceedings.

Fox spent much of the 5 p.m. EST program hour with its popular panel discussions show, The Five. Later, it cut away during The Story with Martha McCallum for interviews with former Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA), among others.

Video footage of President Trump’s legal team making their arguments continued to play, but the audio was muted.

Other, competing cable news networks — including those openly hostile to President Trump, including MSNBC and CNN — remained with the live video and audio feed from the floor of the U.S. Senate, as they had done during the House Democrat impeachment managers’ opening arguments against the president last week.

Smith: A Veteran’s Perspective – None of the Democrat Candidates Are Fit to Lead

I am a veteran of the United States Army. I served two tours in the Middle-East, including one in Iraq. I’m proud of my service and America. And I am terrified of what will become of our beloved military and our national security if any of the Democrats I saw take the Debate stage on Tuesday night become America’s Commander-In-Chief.

Watching the top-tier candidates for president on the left blunder their way through answers on Middle-East policy while engaging in half-truths about the War in Iraq and the Iran/U.S. tensions from a few weeks ago made me profoundly uncomfortable. While septuagenarian multimillionaires argue about the Iraq war vote from 17 years ago, the lone veteran on stage outright lies about the origins behind the decision to kill Qasem Soleimani, and the billionaire who has no real reason to be there goes on about “climate change” as if it’s the primary threat to the lives of Americans, soldiers, and veterans realize they’re left with a sorry group of people aiming to be president of the United States.

The back and forth between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders about the initial vote to authorize the Iraq war points to a fundamental misunderstanding of where we’re at now in terms of our troop presence in Iraq and the issues that America will face in deciding if and when we will vastly reduce the amount of troops we have there. Sanders wears his “no” vote on the Iraq war like a badge of honor to shine his virtue towards his socialist base and supporters. While being anti-war and American interventionism isn’t necessarily a bad thing, nor is critique of the origins of the war itself, what Sanders misses is that no matter what his vote was then, we’re in Iraq now. Veterans and active-duty soldiers don’t want 17-year-later Monday-morning quarterbacking about the vote; we want an answer to the issues facing troops in the region now.
