Obama Budget Plan Weighs In At $3.8 Trillion

Deficits over decade estimated at 4.5 percent of economy

WASHINGTON
- President Barack Obama's proposed budget predicts the national deficit will crest at a record-breaking $1.6 trillion in the current fiscal year, then start to recede in 2011 to just below $1.3 trillion.

Still, the administration's new budget proposal to be released Monday says deficits over the next decade will average 4.5 percent of the size of the economy, a level that economists say is dangerously high if not addressed.

A congressional official provided the information, which comes from a White House summary document circulating freely on Capitol Hill and among Washington's lobbyists. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the spending proposal is not supposed to be made public until tomorrow.

Toyota Tries Media Blitz To Soothe Over Recall

Sunday print ads, Monday TV appearance to explain automaker’s plans

LAKEWOOD, New Jersey
- Toyota has launched a media campaign to bolster its reputation for quality as nervous customers confront dealers across the country about faulty gas pedal systems.

Crisis-management experts said Sunday that the recall of millions of cars and trucks isn't the Japanese auto maker's only problem: its message to Toyota owners — delivered in full-page ads Sunday in 20 major newspapers — isn't as clear and reassuring as it needs to be.

On Monday, the head of Toyota's North American sales division, Jim Lentz, is scheduled to appear on NBC's The Today Show to detail the company's plans for a fix. Federal regulators have approved Toyota's plan to start sending parts to dealers in the coming days.

Delmar Is Great

"Joe,

Just wanted to share a quick story. After working yesterday (and not realizing just how bad the roads were, took 2 hours to go 30 miles), I pulled into my driveway and yes, got stuck with half of my car in the road. I went and got the shovel and started digging. There was a man across the street with a tractor and plow, I've never met him before but he came over, helped dig me out and plowed my driveway, needless to say I was so grateful.

I had to leave for a little bit today, came home and my driveway was completely plowed again. I'm pretty sure this was another neighbor as the tracks were different. I think it's really great how people help each other out in situations like this.

Just wanted to share something positive since we hear negative stuff so much and say thanks to everyone who helped a friend, neighbor or stranger during this snowstorm. This is why I love the eastern shore :)

Thanks,
Donna"

I found it quite interesting that the Wicomico Board Of Education Website states the following, "All Schools are operating on a regular schedule" UPDATE: Monday, February 1st : School closed due to weather

WMDT does not have anything showing Schools being closed at all for Monday.

I want to make this very clear to everyone. I have asked Dr. John Fredricksen and others on the Board to please send us Press Releases as well as School Closings and they absolutely refuse to send us anything. It seems the Board of Education can dish it but they cannot handle constructive criticism. This is your leaders teaching our children they can block freedom of speech and this is THEIR America, they don't have to follow rules and laws like everyone else.

Snow Pictures From Parsonsburg

Joe,

Some pics from our yard on Shavox Road in Parsonsburg.

Didn't have a yardstick but you can see that a 12" ruler is submerged in snow in our front yard.

I laughed pretty hard when I saw that my Nissan Altima was now an SUV!!

Andy Harris For Congress Announces $270,000 Raised In 4th Quarter

Nearly 90 percent of donations from individual voters

ANNAPOLIS
--Andy Harris for Congress today announced that it has raised $270,000 in the fourth quarter of 2009. Nearly 90 percent of the contributions were from individual donors. Harris released the following statement:

"I am very proud to have the support of the voters in my campaign to be the next Congressman representing Maryland's First District," Harris said. "My campaign is built around the support of Republican, Democrat, and Independent voters instead of Washington special interests and the PACs of the liberal leadership in Congress. My supporters know that we have got to fight against the millions of dollars that Nancy Pelosi has begun to funnel into the District so that she can continue to control her members and the policies that Congress pursues. I stand with the voters of the District who want to find and keep a job, make their own health care decisions with their doctors and expect their representative to protect our nation from enemies at home and abroad."

Dr. Harris has a distinguished record as a three-term State Senator in Annapolis fighting for fiscal responsibility and strengthening Maryland’s families by promoting job creation, smaller government, and the need for tax relief, not increased burdens on Maryland taxpayers. He is a practicing obstetric anesthesiologist, with an appointment at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine as an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, as well as practicing at Easton Memorial Hospital and Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He served our country in the United States Naval Reserve for 17 years, achieving the rank of Commander, and is a member of the American Legion.

Thank You, To A Very Special Individual From A Very Grateful Family

Folks, I was sitting in my Office when I heard the sound of a large tractor. I thought to myself, that's not the state plowing, I wonder if our local Farmers are out there clearing the roadway for us.

Well, you know me, I grabbed my camera and looked out the front window to see if it was out in the road. I could hear it but I couldn't see it.

Well, to my absolute amazement I went to the front door, opened it, the next thing I knew there was someone in our driveway clearing a way for us to get out.I tried to stop him just to ask who he was and thank him but he kept his door closed, waved and simply went on his way.

So to our very special hero friend, Thank You and God Bless You. I told you Folks, there's no better place on earth than Delmar, DE.

A Winter Wonderland In Delmar, DE.

Delmar Roads

So everyone knows, taking the side roads in Delmar is pretty much a one lane road. There's not enough roadway plowed to get two cars past each other and I'm not so sure the State actually did the plowing. How are things around you?

Don't have anything to measure this with but the maintenance folks just did my sidewalk for me and the level is even, not drifts. Looks like a lot more than what the news reported! This is in Salisbury, off of old Ocean City Road.

Just Fred

A cop stops a Harley for traveling faster than the posted speed limit, so he asks the biker his name.

'Fred,' he replies.

'Fred what?' the officer asks.

'Just Fred,' the man responds.

The officer is in a good mood and thinks he might just give the biker a break and, write him out a warning instead of a ticket. The officer then presses him for the last name.

The man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it. The officer thinks that he has a nut case on his hands but plays along with it. 'Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name?'

The biker replies, 'It's a long story, so stay with me.' I was born Fred Johnson.
I studied hard and got good grades.

When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, residency, and finally got my degree, so I was Fred Johnson, MD. After a while I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school.

Dentistry was my dream! Got all the way through School, got my degree, so then I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS.

Got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant and she gave me VD, so now I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS, with VD.

Well, the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS.

Then I was Fred Johnson, MD, with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Johnson with VD.

Then the VD took away my Johnson, so now I am Just Fred.'

The officer walked away in tears, laughing

Rush Limbaugh's Letter To President Obama

Statement From ACORN Film-maker James O'Keefe

The government has now confirmed what has always been clear: No one tried to wiretap or bug Senator Landrieu’s office. Nor did we try to cut or shut down her phone lines. Reports to this effect over the past 48 hours are inaccurate and false.

As an investigative journalist, my goal is to expose corruption and lack of concern for citizens by government and other institutions, as I did last year when our investigations revealed the massive corruption and fraud perpetrated by ACORN. For decades, investigative journalists have used a variety of tactics to try to dig out and reveal the truth.

I learned from a number of sources that many of Senator Landrieu’s constituents were having trouble getting through to her office to tell her that they didn’t want her taking millions of federal dollars in exchange for her vote on the healthcare bill. When asked about this, Senator Landrieu’s explanation was that, “Our lines have been jammed for weeks.” I decided to investigate why a representative of the people would be out of touch with her constituents for “weeks” because her phones were broken. In investigating this matter, we decided to visit Senator Landrieu’s district office – the people’s office – to ask the staff if their phones were working.

On reflection, I could have used a different approach to this investigation, particularly given the sensitivities that people understandably have about security in a federal building. The sole intent of our investigation was to determine whether or not Senator Landrieu was purposely trying to avoid constituents who were calling to register their views to her as their Senator. We video taped the entire visit, the government has those tapes, and I’m eager for them to be released because they refute the false claims being repeated by much of the mainstream media.

Massachusetts' Interim Senator Continues To Vote

The Senate voted on three pieces of legislation Thursday that required 60 votes–to raise the debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion, to reduce the deficit by establishing five-year discretionary spending caps, and Ben Bernanke’s confirmation–all of which interim Senator Paul Kirk (D-MA) has voted on. In addition, there have been other Senate votes since Scott Brown was elected as Massachusetts senator that Kirk cast a vote.

The main question here is: why is (former) Senator Kirk still voting on these legislative pieces? According to Senate rules and precedent, Kirk’s term expired last Tuesday upon the election of Scott Brown. Furthermore, Massachusetts law can be interpreted, according to GOP lawyers, as:

Based on Massachusetts law, Senate precedent, and the U.S. Constitution, Republican attorneys said Kirk will no longer be a senator after election day, period. Brown meets the age, citizenship, and residency requirements in the Constitution to qualify for the Senate. “Qualification” does not require state “certification,” the lawyers said
.
Additionally, as reported in the Weekly Standard and investigated and confirmed by GOP lawyers:

Appointed Senator Paul Kirk will lose his vote in the Senate after Tuesday’s election in Massachusetts of a new senator and cannot be the 60th vote for Democratic health care legislation, according to Republican attorneys.

Using this interpretation, Kirk cannot vote on any other legislation.

Gun-Show Background Check Bill Dies In Va House

A handful of Virginia legislators have killed a bill that would require private sellers at gun shows to perform background checks on buyers, while approving bills to make it easier to purchase and carry guns.

A House Militia, Police and Public Safety subcommittee voted 4-1 Thursday to kill Democratic Del. Jennifer McClellan's bill to close the so-called gun-show loophole, where private sellers are not required to perform checks. The House has killed the bills for several years.

GOP Leaders Adopt A 'RINOs-Need-Not-Apply' Policy

In an unprecedented move, the Republican National Committee on Friday unanimously called on its chairman,Michael S. Steele, to "carefully screen" candidates for their adherence to conservative values before granting them RNC financial help.

The resolution specifically calls on the national chairman to take into account the voting records and statements of all GOP candidates for evidence that they support the "core principles and positions" of the party's national platform, widely regarded as a highly conservative document.

"The brilliant part of the resolution is that it is tied to the party platform ... that has been thought out, debated and passed unanimously at our national convention," North Dakota GOP Chairman Gary Emineth told The Washington Times after he and his fellow RNC members passed the resolution.

There has been intense infighting for more than a month over the wording and the desirability of the resolution, even though it has no legally binding effect on Mr. Steele or on the chairmen of the GOP House and Senate campaign committees. But it does stipulate that candidates who fail the screening should not receive money and other campaign support from the RNC or its sister committees.

The resolution also calls on Mr. Steele and leaders of the House and Senate GOP campaign committees to deny financial and other support support to "candidates who clearly do not support the core principles and positions" of the national platform as adopted at the 2008 Republican National Convention.

"The importance of resolution's passage now is that it shows we have taken steps not only to welcome tea-party activists and other independent, small-government champions but also to solve problems within the GOP that caused many of them to abandon the Republican Party," said Morton Blackwell, a veteran RNC member from Virginia.

The resolution's passage represents the first time in memory that a philosophically conservative faction has not been crushed by the national party leadership. "Heretofore there hasn't been any instruction to the national chairmen as to how to allocate their committees' resources-- that's the big difference," said Mr. Blackwell.

State Trooper

A Kentucky State Trooper was patrolling late at night off the main highway.

He sees a couple in a car, with the interior light brightly glowing.

He carefully approaches the car to get a closer look. Then he sees a young man behind the wheel, reading a computer magazine. He immediately notices a young woman in the rear seat, filing her fingernails.

Puzzled by this surprising situation, the trooper walks to the car and gently raps on the driver's window.

The young man lowers his window. 'Uh, yes, Officer?'

The trooper asks: 'What are you doing?'

The young man says: 'Well, Officer, I'm reading a magazine.'

Pointing towards the young woman in the back seat the trooper says: 'And her, what is she doing?'

The young man shrugs: 'Sir, I believe she's filing her fingernails.'

Now, the trooper is totally confused. A young couple, alone, in a car, at night in a lover's lane ... And nothing obscene is happening!

The trooper asks: 'What's your age, young man?'

The young man says: 'I'm 22, sir.'

The trooper asks: 'And her .... what's her age?'

The young man looks at his watch and replies: 'She'll be 18 in 11 minutes.. '

You Guys Need To Get With The Plan..

Defending himself before House Republicans Friday, a sometimes-angry President Obama said he has already incorporated their ideas into his proposals and made it clear he doesn't think his administration is to blame for the lack of bipartisanship in Washington.

Mr. Obama, speaking to the House Republican caucus at their annual retreat in Baltimore, said he is not an ideologue and urged Republicans -- most of whom have voted against every major piece of his agenda -- to set aside politics and help him find common ground.

"I'm not suggesting we're going to agree on everything," Mr. Obama said. "But if the way these issues are being presented by Republicans is that this is some wild-eyed plot to impose huge government in every aspect of our lives, what happens is you guys then don't have a lot of room to negotiate with me."

Following his speech, Mr. Obama took several questions from lawmakers, including one from GOP Conference Chairman Mike Pence of Indiana, who asked whether the president would support across-the-board tax cuts. Mr. Obama said he could not back relief for the wealthiest individuals.

House Republicans presented Mr. Obama with a binder of proposals, which he promised to examine.

"When Democrats took control of Washington, House Republicans pledged to the American people that we would be the party of better solutions. House Republicans have kept our word," said Mr. Pence. "I urge the president to give our proposals the consideration they deserve, so we can begin the work that is necessary to fix our economy and get our fiscal house in order."

Father Of The Year

A man boarded a plane with 8 kids.

After they got settled in their seats, a woman sitting across the aisle from him leaned over to him and asked, "Are all of those kids yours?"

He replied, "No. I work for a condom company. These are customer complaints."

GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ANNOUNCES LAUNCH ON INTERACTIVE MAP FOR FY11 CAPITAL BUDGET

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley announced today the launch of an online, interactive map that outlines many of the major Capital Budget projects for FY11. The Capital Budget, totaling more than $2.7 billion in FY11, invests in infrastructure projects, public schools, environmental projects and others. Nearly one third of the FY11 Capital Budget is dedicated to education projects.

“We are committed in Maryland to fulfilling our promise to the people of Maryland to bring them a more transparent, accountable, and fiscally responsible state government,” said Governor O’Malley. “This new website allows all Maryland citizens to explore local projects that will impact the lives of their families and the neighbors, and see first hand how tax dollars are being used to improve the quality of life for all Marylanders.”

The website, maintained by StateStat, Maryland’s performance-measurement and management program implemented to make state government more accountable and more efficient, categorizes Capital projects and separates expenditures by project and by jurisdiction.

Capital budgets are planned in six year increments, and therefore a single fiscal year offers only a piece of the total picture. For the authoritative account on Maryland’s six-Year Capital Improvement Plan and all capital expenditures, please visit Maryland’s Department of Budget and Management’s website.

This interactive map is meant to provide more transparency to state government. Similarly, StateStat tracks every category of federal Recovery Act spending providing contract-level details to the public, and details the activities of several state agencies in an effort to improve efficiency and save taxpayer money. Recently, Good Jobs First, a non-profit research center based in Washington, DC, ranked Maryland’s Recovery Act tracking website the best in the nation for the second straight year.

Obama's Fake Freeze Folly

President Obama made a big deal last week about his purported federal spending freeze, but not enough has been said about how meager the supposed savings actually are. Historical context shows that any savings from this public-relations gimmick will be tiny. Frugality, apparently, is a concept Democrats have a hard time understanding.

The Obama freeze is projected to "save" $15 billion from expected spending next year. This is not a cut of $15 billion in existing spending, but only a decision not to raise spending (to match inflation) on certain accounts. Those accounts supposedly are to be frozen for the following two years as well, but they are being frozen only after a decade-long spending orgy that included an 8.2 percent increase in domestic discretionary spending this year. And they don't apply to any new purported jobs bill or to any other new item on the president's priority list.

What the president is proposing has the aspect of a toddler putting a single foot beyond the water's edge at the beach for the very first time and then proudly reporting to everybody that he "swam in the ocean." If he really wants to swim with the economic tide, Mr. Obama should learn from the 1990s that government is not the engine of prosperity and that when it comes to saving taxpayer money, boldness works far better than puny half-measures.

To All The Women In Our Lives

Recently, in a large city in France ,

a poster featuring a young, thin and tan woman appeared in the window of a gym.

It said, "This summer,

do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

A middle-aged woman,

whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster,

responded publicly to the question

posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern,
Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans.)

They have an active sex life,

get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp.

They play and swim in the seas,

seeing wonderful places like Patagonia ,

the Bering Sea

and the coral reefs of Polynesia .

Whales are wonderful singers

and have even recorded CDs.
They are incredible creatures

and virtually have no predators

other than humans.

They are loved, protected and admired

by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don't exist.

If they did exist,

they would be lining up outside the offices

of Argentinean psychoanalysts

due to identity crisis. Fish or human?

They don't have a sex life

because they kill men who get close to them, not to mention how could they have sex?

Just look at them ... where is IT?

Therefore, they don't have kids either.

Not to mention,

who wants to get close to a girl who smells

like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me:

I want to be a whale.

P..S. We are in an age

when media puts into our heads

the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver, and a piece of chocolate with my friends.

With time, we gain weight

because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads

that when there is no more room,

it distributes out to the rest of our bodies.
So we aren't heavy,

we are enormously cultured,

educated and happy.
Beginning today,

when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, ¨Good grief, look how smart I am!¨

Neighbors Want "Loophole" Closed In Sex Offender Notification Law

Ed and Jenny Jackson say they were stunned to learn from one of their neighbors that a registered sex offender and his wife had bought a house in their Towson area neighborhood last summer.

What bothers the couple who have three kids is that police did not notify them as required in the state's sex offender notification law.

"It was kind of shocking to find out through word of mouth and not know that this person was living there, and we had no idea," Ed Jackson told WBAL News.

Dems: Thumbs up to Obama speech
But Bartlett cites ‘hypocrisy' in calls to work together

Predictably, Maryland's Democratic-dominated congressional caucus praised President Barack Obama's first State of the Union speech, while the lone Republican was less than impressed.

U.S. Rep. Christopher Van Hollen Jr. (D-Dist. 8) of Kensington called Obama's speech a "clear plan" to creating jobs.

"As he said tonight, our economy is in better shape than it was this time last year, but there is more we must do to create long-term economic growth and broadly shared prosperity," Van Hollen said.

He added that Obama seemed to capture the mood of the country well. "We've come through a difficult economic period and getting back on our feet and optimistic about pulling ourselves out of the ditch," Van Hollen said.

U.S. Rep. Donna F. Edwards (D-Dist. 4) of Fort Washington said Obama hit every issue she wanted him to cover in his 70-minute speech.

"He really focused on jobs and small businesses that create jobs, and that's what we need," Edwards said.

No Judgment For Judges

Gansler's plan for judicial elections could rob citizens of any meaningful oversight

Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler recently proposed ending democratic elections for circuit court judges across the state. But the system he proposes -- known by advocates as "merit" selection -- will make judges less accountable and more prone to the type of judicial activism that continues to erode confidence in our legal system nationwide.

Under "merit" selection, judges are chosen by a small panel controlled by legal elites, rather than voters. Favored candidates are then sent to the governor, who must choose from the approved slate. Judges chosen under "merit" selection never face contested elections, just retention ballots where citizens can only vote "yes" or "no."

Mr. Gansler suggests that a retention election "offers [voters] a tool to hold the judge accountable." Actually, retention elections practically assure a lifetime appointment to the bench.

Of the 6,309 judges who ran in retention elections in the U.S. between 1964 and 2006, more than 99 percent were re-elected, according to an article by Professor Larry Aspin of Bradley University. Vanderbilt Law Professor Brian Fitzpatrick found that 145 out of 146 Tennessee judges were retained in a study he published on that state's experiment with "merit" selection

State Senate President's Son Among New Judges

Gov. Martin O'Malley has appointed nine lawyers, one of them the son of state Sen. President Thomas V. Mike Miller, to be trial judges.

Named to the Circuit Court bench in Baltimore were Kendra Y. Ausby, counsel for the Courts and Judicial Affairs Division of the attorney general's office and a former assistant public defender; Videtta A. Brown, a District Court judge and former prosecutor; Charles J. Peters, a federal prosecutor and former city prosecutor; and Stephen J. Sfekas, a health care lawyer who represents providers for the developmentally disabled.

"They seem like they will be very fine additions to our bench," W. Michel Pierson, acting administrative judge for the Baltimore Circuit Court, said Wednesday . Tapped for the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court bench were career prosecutor Laura S. Kiessling, the deputy state's attorney; and trial and business law attorney Ronald H. Jarashow, a partner in an Annapolis law firm.

Hello, dummies! Oh my God, look at you. Anyone else hurt in the accident?

Seriously, Senator Reid has a face of a Saint - A Saint Bernard. Now I know why they call you the arithmetic man. You add partisanship, subtract pleasure, divide attention, and multiply ignorance. Reid is so physically unimposing, he makes Pee Wee Herman look like Mr. T. And Reid's so dumb he makes Speaker Pelosi look like an intellectual. Nevada is soooo screwed! If I were less polite, I'd say Reid makes Kevin Federline look successful.

Speaking of the Speaker... Nancy Pelosi, hubba, hubba! ey baby, you must've been something before electricity. Seriously, the Speaker may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you. She really is an idiot. Madame Speaker... Want to make twelve bucks the hard way? Pelosi says she's not partisan, but her constituents call her Madame Pelossilini.

Charlie Rangel.... Still alive and still robbing the taxpayers blind. What does that make, six decades of theft? Rangel's the only man with a rent-controlled mansion. He's the guy who writes our tax laws but forgot to pay taxes on $75 grand in rental income! So why isn't he the Treasury Secretary? Rangel runs more scams than a Nigerian Banker.

Barney Frank - he's a better actor than Fred Flintstone. Consider... He and Dodd caused the whole financial meltdown and they're not only not serving time with Bubba and Rodney, they're still heading up the financial system! Let's all admit it... Barney Frank slobbers more than a sheepdog on Novocain. How did this guy get elected? Oh, that's right... he's from Massachusetts . That's the state that elects Mr. Charisma, John Kerry -- man of the people!

You know, if Senator Dodd were any more crooked, you could open wine bottles with him. Here's a news flash, Dodd: when your local newspaper calls you a "lying weasel," it may be time to retire. Dodd's involved in more shady deals than the Clintons . Even Rangel looks up to him!

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, I really respect you... Especially given your upbringing. All you've overcome... I heard your birth certificate is an apology from the condom factory. I don't know what makes you so dumb, but it really works for you. Personally, I don't think you're a fool, but what's my opinion compared to that of thousands of others? Gibbs does his best expositional work in the bathroom every morning.

As for President Obama, what can I say? They say President Obama's arrogant and aloof, but I don't agree. Now it's true when you enter the room, you have to kiss his ring. I don't mind, but he has it in his back pocket. His mind is open to new ideas -- so open that ideas simply pass through it. Obama lies so much, I was actually surprised to find out his first name really was Barack. Just don't ask about his middle name! But Obama was able to set a record... He actually lied more in 60 days than Bill Clinton. As far as his administration -- what with the tax cheat and lobbyists -- well, in the words of Patches O'Houlihan, "It's like watching a bunch of retards trying to hump a doorknob out there."

With all due respect.

FOR THOSE THAT VOTED FOR "HOPE AND CHANGE"... BEND OVER AND PREPARE TO RECEIVE YOUR BOUNTY.
