Today's Survey Question 11-21-11

Should the Salisbury Charter Amendment about the City Attorney be put to a Referendum Vote as Mayor Ireton wants?

No. Just more of the people who had been in control not happy with what the voters already decided.

Anonymous said...

The council already passed the legislation in a legal and transparent manner. If Mitchell proposes a voluntary referendum, which she will, It should be voted down by the 3 who passed the legislation in the first place.

Yes!

Why not vote on it? Seems like a logical government issue that the people could decide yes or no.

We need a referendum to recall Ireton and Mitchell. You would get many more volunteers and getting enough votes would be a "given".

Anonymous said...

Yes, most definately! The citizens should have a say in something as important as this.

Anonymous said...

Yes! If they, the council members (all of them) truly care about what the voters think, then let them, the voters, decide. If it's such a wonderful thing, they shouldn't be afraid of the results.

If they can't get a simple petition done with highly publicised, heavy hitting arm twisting, why waste money on a referendum?

anonymous 11:45, talk about DESPERATE!

You losers just can't understand the PROCESS or the word NO.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely not. This referendum went through the process, it was voted on and passed, period. Mitchell, Shields and Ireton and all their cronies need to get over it and move on.

Anonymous said...

No. Secrets should not be held by the mayor and city attorney from the law creating body (council). Nobody EVER voted for Paul Wilber.

We worked for years getting the Tighlman regime out of office and now Ireton wants to be Barrie Tighlman and all her cronies wrapped up as one?

The council was voted by majority, the petition failed, the majority has spoken by way of their elected representitives.

If the voters supported the petition they had plenty of time to sign it and the Daily Times gave them more than enough advertising to get the signatures if that's what the voters really wanted. They also had help from WBOC and WMDT TV giving the voters the information they needed and the opportunity to sign.

Face it, the process is over, NOW get back to work instead of self serving BS Laura Mitchell and Jim Ireton.

What happened to the transparancy in government we were promised?

Hey Jim-Beau:

Don't go away mad - just go away (and take Mitchell and Shields with you).

Anonymous said...

Can't wait for his press releases and media events -- what a sore loser

Anonymous said...

Check mate. Game over. Now it's time to get back to work on the city's business, mayor and council member. What you were elected to do. You can't win'um all, grow up.

Anonymous said...

Ireton and Mitchell have already made two city employees work on Saturday for this nonsense. They should be recalled ASAP.

Anonymous said...

NO not at all.. notta..It is finished get over it and get to work.
NOW we need a new attorney...like now.

Anonymous said...

The city will probably lose there lawsuit with the engineers and builders of our WWTP.

There was a contract signed and it only insured the $80 million WWTP for $1 million.

If that contract is legal and binding the city taxpayers will lose because our representitives at the time that the contract was signed didn't ask the $80 million question. Why it was only insured for $1 million.

A contract was also signed to approve that type of WWTP that clearly wasn't meant for this area. Thanks Barrie and company, contracts considered, does the city even have a leg to stand on?

Everybody talks a good game about recalls, but nobody ever does anything. You idiots want to change the government in this town, show an ounce of the gumption Laura Mitchell has, get out there and make it happen. It's that easy. Until then it's all just blah, blah, blah.

Anonymous said...

The WWTP is what the taxpayers get when the legalities are not questioned and council members can't ask questions because they are exempt from legal access due to an executive order. Live and learn.

That's what rubber stamp councils in the past have delivered to us Dunn, Cathcart and Comegys.

I want my council member to be free to ask the city attorney questions about legalities even if it is Shanie Shields and know she will only do what her handlers tell her to do.

Anonymous said...

no it shouldn't go to referendum. the petition failed so lets move on. thanks sjd

Doesn't it seem odd that the city of Salisbury is involved in so much litigations/lawsuits? Especially for a town of this size.

The city attorney must be making money hand over fist. Win or lose, he still gets paid and we all lose.

Wiber has lost to Stu Leer and a group of citizens against the old mall. His record in court representing the city should be proof enough we aren't getting enough for the taxpayers buck.

Mitchell is just a mouthpiece for the loosers. oh well that makes her a looser too.lol

Anonymous said...

Absolutely not! So then what? Everytime someone's not happy with something, Salisbury's supposed to put it to referendum? It's the dumbest idea ever!
If the charter change really is so unpopular the council memebers will get voted out of office and the new members can change it back. That's the democratic process! The democratic processs is not running around with a petition, Laura Mitchell!

Anonymous said...

Yes, it is an issued that has garnered enough interest to allow the citizens to vote. It seems that politicians in general forget that ultimately, they serve the people. So, let the people be heard...

Anonymous said...

No one mentions that more voters signed the petition for the referandum then actually voted in the last election for ALL THE CANDIDATES. Only 1,622 total votes were cast but well over 2,000 voters signed the petition. It seems more citizens in Salisbury want to have a voice in this decision then what voted for Terry and Tim.

No one mentions that more voters signed the petition"

You can not say that 3:18, unless and until all the signatures are validated.
Now of course Laura Mitchell is saying there is no point in that, since the goal wasn't reached. I say validate them! Let's see how many "voters" actually did sign. Until that happens arguments like 3:18's are a mute point.

3:18

By your logic the petition to stop the double digit tax increase should have gone to referendum anyway. It did't.

What's going to happen now? Every time the mare doesn't get his way we are going to have a referendum and if a petition don't work we are going to have a referendum anyway, every time he throws a hissy fit?

Nothing will ever get done that way. Just makes him look worse and things aren't progressing. He really needs to get over himself. What does he think he is? God?

Two huge gang fights last night. Had to radio for assistance from the state police and the sheriff's department.

Some of that crime reduction could also be that people are more alert and cautious of their surroundings. People with half a brain wouldn't walk a few blocks from my house.

If this is what "help is on the way" is all about, forget it, we don't need your help mare Liarton.

Anonymous said...

I agree, validate and get copies. Know thy enema! lol

Anonymous said...

No one mentions it 3:18 because it's not something that is true at this point. No one is certain how many actual registered voters signed the petition.

Anonymous said...

It was passed legally and with plenty of comment time by all voters/ parties. Move on.
This is nothing but trying to change a move that the "machine" wants to change back, take up time used for going forward, and obstructionism.

Anonymous said...

Minor issue. Not worth the time or money. Majority rules. The End!

I don't see that voting on it is a bad thing but it is a done deal. Many have said there should be recall votes on Jim and Laura. I agree that Jim is an idiot butr so is Debbie. I was involved with the recent election and the turnout was horrible. I fully expected a big turnout because so many complained about the crap that was going on. The turnout was horrible. If you voted, feel free to complain away. If you didn't shut up and never post another comment until you do vote.
