Governor Hogan Statement on Passing of House Speaker Michael Busch

Orders Maryland Flags to Fly At Half-Staff

ANNAPOLIS, MD -
Governor Larry Hogan issued the following statement today on the passing of House Speaker Michael Busch:

"This is a profoundly sad day for Maryland. Mike Busch was a giant in our government—the longest serving Speaker in our state’s history. He cared deeply about improving the lives of Marylanders, and his legacy is evident in his many legislative achievements.

“Speaker Busch and I came from different sides of the aisle, but we often came together in the best interests of the people of Maryland. He served with the decency and good nature of a teacher, a coach, and a family man. I was honored to know him and to work closely with him.

“On behalf of all Marylanders, the First Lady and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Speaker’s wife, Cindy, their daughters, Erin and Megan, and all of his colleagues. He was raised in Annapolis, he represented Annapolis, and he will forever be remembered here.”

Effective immediately, Maryland flags will fly at half-staff in honor of Speaker Busch’s distinguished life and legacy until sunset on the day of interment.

Maryland Speaker Michael Busch's condition worsens; he is using a ventilator

Michael Busch, the longest-serving speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates, is on a ventilator and his health has worsened, his office announced Sunday.

Busch, an Annapolis Democrat, has been in the hospital receiving treatment for pneumonia, his third major health scare since 2017. In 2017, he went through a liver transplant and in 2018, he had heart bypass surgery.

“Yesterday, doctors at University of Maryland Medical Center made the determination that Speaker Busch's breathing had taken a significant turn for the worse and the Speaker made the decision to use a ventilator to help his breathing,” said Alex Hughes, Busch’s chief of staff. “Unfortunately, his condition has worsened over the past few hours. His family asks for privacy at this time and to keep the Speaker in your thoughts and prayers.”

Beautiful renovation project? This is an embarrassment to Wicomico County! Jake Day is ruining Historic Downtown Salisbury!

Salisbury MSP Press Release 3-31-19 (DUI/CDS/Firearms Seizure)

A Viewer Writes......

Good Morning Joe,

Was wondering if anyone else happened to come across Jake Day's social media circus and his latest water of city resources. He's been busy planning another community center on Newton Street for the influx of immigrants and addicts. He also spent Friday in "prayer" at the Muslim center on Jersey road with supposedly 200 of Salisbury's Muslim community. His purpose was to assure Muslims that we all support their views on today's political agendas. I guess before too long he'll have the "dipsh!t" Omar down as a guest speaker to give her two cents on her ideologies. It's hard to believe how far today's ( in Day's own words) "progressive socialist liberal leaders" will go to secure the funding to pursue their own personal agenda.

Question Of The Day 4-3-19

I have no doubt that you all will come up with more than the one missing answer.  Have fun!

White supremacist material tossed in yards on Eastern Shore of Virginia

EASTVILLE, Va. (WAVY) -- The Northampton and Accomack County sheriff's offices are investigating what they are calling hate propaganda.

The material contains apparent recruiting and racial hate material from the Ku Klux Klan.

It appears 10 different messages were placed in at least 135 plastic bags, along with bird seed to make them fly through the air more easily to the yards of innocent people.

One of the flyers reads "Make America White Again." It landed in the yard of a woman who doesn't want to be identified, but she told us, "someone just throws something out of a car window in a Ziploc bag until I just picked it up, and read it, and wondered where did this come from? Who would do something like that?"

Berlin Mayor Proposes 29% Property Tax Increase; Next Fiscal Year’s $5.9 Budget Would Cut New Year’s Eve Ball Drop

BERLIN — Mayor Gee Williams proposed a 29% tax increase as staff presented an overall budget featuring reductions of 18% at a work session this week.

On Monday, Williams and the town council met with Berlin’s department heads to go over the proposed fiscal year 2020 budget. Williams kicked off the session by recommending an increase of the property tax rate from .68 per $100 of valuation to .88 per $100 of valuation. Under this proposal, the owner of a property valued at $300,000 would see a $600 tax hike in the next fiscal year. He said the $5.9 million proposed budget included no raises for employees and very few capital projects. Utility rate fees, which will be discussed at a work session April 15, are also projected to increase for residents this year as the town works to ensure the general fund doesn’t continue its practice of supporting utility operations.

“Neither I or the council fully grasped the extent and persistence that borrowing from the general fund has posed,” Williams said. “I do not believe any of us feel we can continue to borrow from our general fund for the foreseeable future. An 18% reduction in general fund expenses combined with a tax increase to 88 cents will enable the town to stop borrowing from the general fund reserves to support town operations.”

Omar Holding Secret Fundraisers With Islamic Groups Tied to Terror

Democratic freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) has been holding a series of secret fundraisers with groups that have been tied to the support of terrorism, appearances that have been closed to the press and hidden from public view.

The content of these speeches, given to predominately Muslim audiences, remains unknown, prompting some of Omar's critics to express concern about the type of rhetoric she is using before these paying audiences, particularly in light of the lawmaker's repeated use of anti-Semitic tropes in public.

Omar recently spoke in Florida at a private event hosted by Islamic Relief, a charity organization long said to have deep ties to groups that advocate terrorism against Israel. Over the weekend, she will appear at another private event in California that is hosted by CAIR-CA PAC, a political action committee affiliated with the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR a group that was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a massive terror-funding incident.

Omar's appearance at these closed-door forums is raising eyebrows in the pro-Israel world due to her repeated and unapologetic public use of anti-Semitic stereotypes accusing Jewish people of controlling foreign policy and politics. With Omar's popularity skyrocketing on the anti-Israel left, it appears her rhetoric is translating into fundraising prowess.

Reparations bill wins new momentum in Congress

House legislation to form a commission to study whether black Americans should receive reparations for slavery is getting a significant boost from Democrats on the presidential campaign trail.

Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), the head of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), suggested that action on a reparations measure sponsored by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) is all but certain, with Democrats now in control of the lower chamber and the idea gaining prominence on the national stage.

Jackson Lee’s bill would form a commission to study the issue of reparations but does not call for black Americans to receive payments.

“I don’t think there needs to be pressure, we’re in charge,” Bass said. “It’s being discussed, I’m sure we’re going to get there.”

Stacey Abrams: My Election Was ‘Stolen,’ ‘We Won’

Wednesday at the Nation Action Network’s convention, 2018 Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said the election was “stolen” by her Republican gubernatorial opponent Brian Kemp.

Abrams said, “We had this little election back in 2018. And despite the final tally and the inauguration and the situation we find ourselves in, I do have a very affirmative statement to make. We won.”

Discussing why she refused to concede the election, “I understand the law of the land said Brian Kemp became governor that day, and I acknowledge that, but you can’t trick me into saying it was right.”

10 Videos Showing Joe Biden Touching Women Inappropriately

Has the #MeToo movement destroyed Joe Biden’s chances of ever getting to the White House?

In virtually all of the early polls for the race for the Democratic nomination, Biden had been leading. And most polls have showed him with a sizable lead over Donald Trump in a hypothetical head to head contest.

So there was a very real chance that Joe Biden could have become the next president of the United States, but many believe that his political career has now been brought to an end. It was anticipated that President Trump and the Republicans would attack Biden relentlessly once he had secured the nomination, but what makes this recent attack so devastating for the Biden campaign is the fact that it is coming from the left. Joe Biden has been accused of inappropriate touching by a former Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in Nevada, and the mainstream media is pushing this story really hard. Could it be possible that someone is trying to push Biden out of the race before it has even really begun?

Area Student One Of 16 In World With Perfect AP Score

SALISBURY – A Wicomico County student has been recognized as one of 16 people from around the world to earn a perfect score on an Advanced Placement exam.

Last week, Wicomico County Public Schools announced Marvin Li, a sophomore at James M. Bennett High School, earned a score of 5 – the highest possible score – on the College Board’s Advanced Placement U.S. History exam last May and was one of only 16 students from around the world to earn every point possible on the assessment.

“I found out my score sometime in June or July, but I didn’t know I got a perfect score until I received a letter from the College Board last week,” he said. “I really enjoyed the subject and felt that my efforts paid off.”

The College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school.

Each AP course concludes with a college-level exam that is scored by college and university faculty, as well as experienced AP teachers, on a five-point scale. According to the College Board, students who perform well on AP exams also improve their chances of getting into college and receiving college credit for equivalent courses.

What's wrong with this offer??

I mean, look at the seasons and peak hours. Who in their right mind would pay over 6 times the normal rate during the time that you would normally use electricity the most. Goes from 8 cents to 50 cents / KwH during that time.

The Maryland utility commission needs to see this! Politicians talk bad about payday lenders being schmucks. This is outright robbery being disguised as savings.

Maybe AOC came up with the idea.

Catholic Mother Pleads For Young Women To Dress Modestly. Then She Gets Mocked.

Last Monday, a Catholic mother of four sons wrote a letter to The Observer, a student-run, daily print and online newspaper serving Notre Dame University, Saint Mary’s and Holy Cross, asking for women to consider not wearing leggings because they cling to the body and leave little to the imagination. Reaction to her plea for modesty was furious; on Wednesday, WBST reported:

"Around 1,300 students are participating [in] "The Leggings Protest" on Notre Dame's campus today. … The protest has two main objectives: for women and men to wear leggings in protest and to encourage conversations about female equality. PhD student Valeria Mora decided to discuss the letter with her class. She wanted her students to know that they can talk to her about issues like this. “The first thing I got was a huge gasp,” said Mora. “They were like ‘Yes! Yeah, I saw it too.’”

White started her letter by writing that she had hoped fashion would change, adding, “that doesn’t seem to be happening. I’m not trying to insult anyone or infringe upon anyone’s rights. I’m just a Catholic mother of four sons with a problem that only girls can solve: leggings.”

White recalled going to church with her family and witnessing “young women, all wearing very snug-fitting leggings and all wearing short-waisted tops (so that the lower body was uncovered except for the leggings). Some of them truly looked as though the leggings had been painted on them.”

She continued: “A world in which women continue to be depicted as 'babes' by movies, video games, music videos, etc. makes it hard on Catholic mothers to teach their sons that women are someone’s daughters and sisters. That women should be viewed first as people — and all people should be considered with respect.”

OCASIO-CORTEZ CLAIMS REPUBLICANS PASSED TERM LIMITS TO PREVENT FDR FROM RUNNING AGAIN

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attempted to rewrite history in real time during her Friday night MSNBC town hall event with host Chris Hayes.

As the freshman Democrat waxed on about the time in history when her party was at its strongest — during the Great Depression leading up to World War II — she claimed that the 22nd Amendment was ratified in order to prevent President Franklin Delano Roosevelt from running again.

(Reminder, FDR died in office in 1945; the 22nd Amendment came in 1947)

More than 750,000 could lose food stamps under Trump proposal

The White House's plans for food stamps could cost more than 750,000 people their benefits, and most of these folks are among the poorest of the poor.

The administration wants to make more Americans work for their food stamps by limiting states' ability to seek waivers from the current employment requirement. More than three-quarters of a million people could fall off the rolls, according to the Department of Agriculture.

The proposal, however, would hit very poor Americans, researcher Karen Cunnyngham told a House subcommittee Wednesday. The average monthly income of this group is $557, or 43% of the poverty level.

Only 11% had jobs, but they didn't work enough to satisfy the proposed requirement, according to Cunnyngham, an associate director at Mathematica, a policy research firm.

Distribution Of Racist Literature Investigated On Shore

(EASTON, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating the distribution of racist literature found in a Talbot County community over the weekend.

On the morning of March 31, 2019, a resident of St. Michaels contacted the Easton Barrack and reported racist literature had been found distributed in driveways in the community. A trooper responded and his subsequent investigation found that the material had been left at residences predominately in the area of Riverview Terrace and Cove Road in St. Michaels.

The printed material indicates it is produced by the Ku Klux Klan. It espouses racist views toward African Americans, Jewish people, American Indians, and others. The material also solicits people to join the KKK. The flyers were found in clear plastic baggies. The bags also contained birdseed, which provides weight, enabling the package to be thrown into a driveway and remain there.

The trooper forwarded information from his investigation to the Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center, the state’s fusion center, where local, state and federal authorities, including the FBI, were made aware of the incident. Information was also provided to the Eastern Shore Information Center, which is a local multi-jurisdictional task force of law enforcement agencies in the region.

Maryland Attorney General News Releases (BLocking the Border Wall)

Attorney General Frosh Joins 20-State Coalition in Motion to Block Diversion of Funds and Resources for Construction of a Border Wall

Attorneys General File Motion for Preliminary Injunction to Safeguard the Environment and Preserve Law Enforcement Funding

BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Froshas part of a coalition of 20 states, filed a motion to block the Trump Administration’s attempt to unlawfully divert $1.6 billion in federal funds to build a border wall.  The motion was filed in the Northern District of California as part of the coalition’s ongoing lawsuit challenging President Trump’s unconstitutional action to divert funding and resources meant for law enforcement, drug interdiction, and military construction projects.  The coalition requests the court immediately stop the Trump Administration from diverting $1.6 billion in funding that Congress intended for state and local law enforcement agencies.  Through their motion, the states also seek to protect environmental resources that would be imminently harmed by the construction of a border wall on the southern border in New Mexico.

'Creepy' Biden Scrambles Into Damage Control Overdrive, Vows He'll Be "More Respectful"

Though he may soon have bigger problems to contend with, allegations of unwanted touching - including a story about him creepily approaching a woman from behind, smelling her hair, and kissing the back of her head - have sent Joe Biden's campaign-in-waiting into defcon-five damage control mode and sparked a conversation about whether he's fit to be a contender in the race for the 2020 Democratic nomination.

After his campaign initially blamed the scandal on "right wing troll", and his closest advisors have privately fumed about how rival Democratic contenders might have been behind two women who have recently spoken out about Biden - with suspicions lingering on Sen. Bernie Sanders - it appears Joe Biden has finally mustered that folksy charm that so appeals to white working class voters and finally responded to the allegations.

In a two-minute video published on Biden's twitter feed, the former vice president defended his actions as representing "just who I am" (note: that's probably not what these women wanted to hear), and acknowledged that times and attitudes have changed, and that he must now change with them. In the future, he pledged that he will be "more mindful and respectful" of other peoples' personal space.

My Daughter Identified as Transgender. I Was Powerless to Stop Doctors From Harming Her.

I am a mother whose daughter has identified as transgender since the age of 14. I love her, and I care deeply about her and other kids who identify as transgender.

There are young people, like my daughter, who are in turmoil, and who are not getting the compassionate care that they need and deserve.

I’m going to explain to you what happens when parents seek out expert advice to help their transgender-identifying children explore their feelings and discomfort with their sex.

The current standard of treatment promoted by medical and psychological associations is called “affirmative care.” While this sounds nice, affirmative care leads directly to putting children on the path to medical transition with little chance of turning back.

Trump Cuts Aid to Three Unhelpful Central American Countries

Payback for not lifting a finger to stop the migrant caravans.

As the crisis at our nation’s southern border with Mexico worsens due to the unremitting flow of migrants from Central America, President Trump decided late last week to cut aid to the three Central American countries that were contributing most to the problem - El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The cut off affects nearly $500 million of allotted but unspent aid for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 and millions more for the previous year. President Trump finally decided to take this drastic step, after having issued warnings in the past. He charged that these three countries in particular – known collectively as the Northern Triangle - were receiving "tremendous amounts of money" from the United States without doing anything to stop the increasing numbers of caravans from proceeding north towards the United States.

"No money goes there anymore...we're not paying them any more because they haven't done a thing for us," the president said on Friday.

Some Democrats are crying foul, claiming that Congress must approve an end to the funding. Senator Bob Menendez, D-N.J., who is the ranking Democrat on the Republican-chaired Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said that President Trump’s decision was "irresponsible" and “reckless.” Senator Menendez claimed this action “shows the Administration still does not understand that the United States cuts foreign aid to Central America at our own peril." He added that “President Trump reportedly wants to make matters worse by blocking resources for programs that get to the root causes of this humanitarian crisis.”

South Carolina man charged with kidnapping and murder of University of South Carolina student

A South Carolina man was charged Saturday with the kidnapping and murder of University of South Carolina student Samantha Josephson; police say they believe he picked her up in a vehicle, killed her and dumped her body in a wooded area.

Chief William H. Holbrook, with the Columbia Police Department, said at a news conference on Saturday night that authorities had charged 24-year-old Nathaniel Rowland with killing Josephson, 21. A traffic stop reportedly found the victim's blood in his car.

“Our hearts are broken, they’re broken. There is nothing tougher than to stand before a family an explain how a loved one was murdered,” Holbrook said.
