GEORGE CHEVALLIER RECOVERING AT PRMC

Our very own George Chevallier is currently recovering at PRMC from a scheduled quadruple heart bypass surgery this past Friday. There were some complications after the surgery and George had to be taken in for yet another surgery but he is recovering very well and should be as good as new in no time at all.

George is not only a great Friend, he is a man loaded with local wisdom and shares his "Historical Comments" exclusively here on Salisbury News every Saturday morning. Before going into the Hospital, George made sure that we had plenty of articles in advance so YOU wouldn't miss a beat while he was recovering.
Our kindest thoughts and prayers are with George, who recently experienced a mild stroke and still kept those articles coming. If you've never met this kind and gentle soul, he's our very own historic version of "Travels With Charlie" and you'd do yourself some good to get to know him.

Dan Rodricks Smears Journalism with Attack on SbyNEWS

I have always argued that journalism and op-ed are distant cousins at best.  That said, Baltimore Sun columnist Dan Rodricks claims to be a journalist.  Just look at his bio on the Sun’s web site.  Any pretense of journalistic integrity, or checking one’s sources, went out the window with Sunday’s smear of SbyNEWS publisher Joe Albero.
The thesis of Rodricks’ hit piece is that Albero is a bad man who has profited from the misfortune of others.  His evidence?  The self-admitted ranting of a grandparent of a murder victim and blogger / Albero hater Jonathan Taylor.  Albero wasn’t even contacted for comment.
Let’s look at the evidence.  Don’t believe me, look no farther than the Daily Times; never a lover of Albero’s brand of mixing op-ed with hard news.  In Sharahn Boykin’s first piece on the subject, she quotes Wicomico State’s Attorney Matt Maciarello regarding Roberta Wechsler’s claims that Albero is a “criminal”:
“These are bald allegations,” Maciarello said. “There is no substance at this point.”
Rodricks attempts to portray Albero as someone who wrongfully attacked members of Wechsler’s family and is somehow profiting from doing so.  Neither has any basis in fact.
It is true that Albero published items regarding members of Wechsler’s family that were less than flattering.  If I were the editor of SbyNEWS, I would not have done so – but for reasons unrelated to either their newsworthiness or veracity.  However, I find it interesting that no one is taking Albero to court and denying any charge levied against these individuals.
Rodricks quotes Taylor:
“Mr. Albero published anonymous comments that disparaged the Foxwell family”
Try that one on for size.  Albero published ANONYMOUS comments?  Rodricks’ own paper allows you to post comments with nothing more than an anonymous email address.  By putting such a statement in one of his columns, Rodricks is crawling down into the cerebral sewer populated by the likes of Taylor.  We should remember that Taylor has attacked the children of his enemies.  Rodricks would know this if he had bothered to do a little research before using Taylor as a supposed credible source of information.
Here are a just a few interesting items he would have found:
Given Rodrick’s leftist predilections, he probably wouldn’t have been too upset by Taylor unjustly portraying elected officials as racists.
Most ironic of the charges levied against Albero is that he profits from the misfortune of others.  Given that Albero donates his advertising revenues to local charities or charitable causes, AND gives his advertisers the credit, Rodricks may have deliberately stayed clear of this line of attack.
While I have frequently (usually) disagreed with Rodricks, I did have respect for him as a columnist … until today.  Op-Ed isn’t supposed to be fair.  However, it is supposed to be accurate when it makes representations of fact or when we are expected to view sources as credible.
*********************
Author’s Note – I almost look forward to seeing the response triggered by the above post.  I can visualize the Photoshopped pictures, the accusations that I am performing a sex act on Albero, what a general scumbag I am, etc., etc., etc.  My only wish is that readers examine the above argument and contrast it with that response.  My case will have been proven.

BODY FOUND BURIED IN SOMERSET COUNTY IDENTIFIED AS MISSING DELAWARE WOMAN

(MANOKIN, MD) – Maryland State Police recovered the body of a Delaware woman who has been missing for four months and have arrested two Wicomico County men as their investigation continues into what caused the death of the woman.

An examination today at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore identified the body as Whitney L. Bennett, 23, of the 36000-block of Susan Beach Road, Delmar, Delaware. Although the body was identified, the medical examiner said the cause and manner of Bennett’s death remains undetermined. Additional forensic examination and tests will be conducted.

State Police investigators last night arrested two men in connection with the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Bennett. They are identified as Steven L. Akers, 36, and Claude H. Hill, 49, both of the 400-block of South Camden Ave., Fruitland, Md. Both Akers and Hill are charged with accessory after the fact and obstruction of justice. They are being held in the Wicomico County Detention Center on $100,000 bond. They are believed to have known Bennett and others with whom she associated.

Bennett was reported missing by her mother to the Delaware State Police on December 9, 2010. Delaware State Police investigators determined Bennett had last been seen alive in Wicomico County on December 4, 2010. The Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation (WCBI) assumed the investigation into Bennett’s disappearance and began an intense search for her which has continued through this weekend.

During this past weekend, WCBI investigators received information indicating a possible location of a buried body that could be Bennett. Investigators obtained a search warrant for an unoccupied property of several acres located in the 29000-block of Pond Run Drive in Manokin, in Somerset County. WCBI and Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators served the search warrant yesterday morning. With the assistance of State Police crime scene technicians, investigators recovered the body from where it was buried in a wooded area on the rural property.

The state’s attorneys from both Wicomico and Somerset counties worked with investigators throughout the weekend. No one has been charged with the death of Bennett and it has not officially been ruled a homicide.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Investigators are working to develop information on when and how Bennett died and if anyone was responsible for her death. Anyone with information is urged to contact Maryland State Police at the Salisbury Barrack at 410-749-3101. Persons with information may also call Wicomico County Crimes Solvers at 410-548-1776 and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

Record Breaking Week

Love us or hate us, everyone is visiting Salisbury News.

This week proved to be the biggest week Salisbury News has ever seen. We have delivered stories no one else can or will deliver, many of the topics too harsh for the rest of the MSM.

The Bennett Middle School story actually brought in numbers HIGHER, (on a Saturday) than ANY normal week day. Usually our weekend numbers drop by 70%. Yesterdays numbers were higher than a week day, which is HUGE.

So thanks for visiting, returning and commenting. Together we can and will make a positive difference here on the Eastern Shore.

Maryland Delegate Mike McDermott Field Notes

Field Notes
Observations and Reflections on Legislative Activities
By Delegate Mike McDermott
March 28th-April 1st, 2011
  1. On Monday, the House voted on the following bills for Third Reader:
HB 291, HB 1150, HB 1180, HB 1209, HB 1225, HB 1233, HB 1242, HB 1245, HB 975, HB 1033, HB 1038, HB 1039, HB 1092, HB 1113, HB 1135, HB 1143, HB 364, HB 398, HB 461, HB 520, HB 534, HB 539, HB 604, HB 689, HB 62, HB 115, HB 148, HB 700, HB 858, HB 938, HB 943, HB 954, HB 160, HB 166, HB 170, HB 258, HB 262, HB 270, HB 285, HB 1254
  1. On Tuesday, the House voted on the following bills for Third Reader:
  1. On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee reviewed the following senate bills which have crossed over and have identical House Bills which have already been reviewed: SB-172, SB-299, SB-500, SB-511, SB-747. These bills will move quickly to the full House for 2nd and 3rd Reader if the House version has already passed. If the House version was unfavorable in Committee, the same will be applied to the senate bill.
At the same hearing, the following senate bills were reviewed having no cross filed bill in the House:
1.          SB-61: Would allow greater access by the Department of Juvenile Services to                 court related documents such as Charging Documents and Arrest Warrants. It will allow                 them to release relevant information to a victim or witness of a crime which the                         department may possess.
2.          SB-66: Seeks to repeal the requirement that a public safety agency report to the                 state the release of a person who was detained and then released without charges. The                 idea behind this bill being to minimize the impact of a person’s detainment if they are                 ultimately released without charges.
3.          SB-218: Seeks to extend the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights to sworn                 members of the Internal Investigative Unit of the Department of Corrections. Currently,                 this group (approximately 24 officers) has not been listed with those officers covered                 under the statute.
4.          SB-673: Allows for the payment of attorney’s fees from an estate under certain                 circumstances without the need to have the payment approved by the court.

  1. On Wednesday morning, I met with some Republicans involved with the Capital Bond Budget (HB-71) for the purpose of reviewing the myriad of requests which presently total just under a billion dollars. The committee did not make significant cuts in this area and it represents a significant amount of created state debt that our state can ill afford. It appears that we will take the bill up at the beginning of next week. I plan on offering some amendments in an effort to reduce spending in the overall plan.
  2. On Wednesday, the House voted on the following bills for Third Reader:
HB 715, HB 807, HB 1005, HB 1181, HB 1304
  1. On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee reviewed the following senate bills which have crossed over and have identical House Bills which have already been reviewed: SB-247, SB-327, SB-333, SB-342, SB-362, SB-411, SB-593, SB-652, SB-768, SB-803. These bills will move quickly to the full House for 2nd and 3rd Reader if the House version has already passed. If the House version was unfavorable in Committee, the same will be applied to the senate bill.
At the same hearing, the following senate bills were reviewed having no cross filed bill in                 the House:
1.          SB-62: Which would require a greater degree of cooperation between the                         Departments of Education and Juvenile Services as it relates to sharing of information as         required under certain circumstances.
2.          SB-169: Seeks to expand the definition of a debtor’s protected residence under                 bankruptcy laws to include a condominium and a shared property such as a duplex.
3.          SB-281: Would change the requirements of an Orphan’s Court Judge in                         Baltimore and Prince George’s Counties to include admission in the Maryland State Bar                 Association. We heard a bill similar to this previously that was voted down.
4.          SB-599: Would require insurance carriers under certain circumstances to divulge         the amount of insurance coverage limits that exist for a policy holder prior to trial. It is                 thought that this may reduce litigation actions.
  1. On Wednesday evening, I attended our annual Judiciary Committee dinner. Both Speaker Bush and Governor O’Malley came by to say hello and address the committee. During his comments, it became apparent that the Governor was a little perturbed by some of my recent press articles published on the shore which have been critical of some of his administration policy objectives. He called me out on it and jokingly told Chairman Vallario to “take away Delegate McDermott’s computer”. Working for the Eastern shore, and specifically my district, means I will often take exception to the governor’s proposals. I am currently working with him on a wind proposal that makes sense for rural Maryland, while at the same time opposing his “Big Wind” project as it has been presented. I pay attention to the Governor, and I am glad he is paying attention to the Eastern Shore.
  1. On Thursday, the House voted on the following bills for Third Reader:
HB 757, HB 758
  1. On Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee reviewed the following senate bills which have crossed over and have identical House Bills which have already been reviewed: SB-112, SB-115, SB-174, SB-178, SB-278, SB-457, SB-480, SB-529, SB-531, SB-696. These bills will move quickly to the full House for 2nd and 3rd Reader if the House version has already passed. If the House version was unfavorable in Committee, the same will be applied to the senate bill.
At the same hearing, the following senate bill was reviewed having no cross filed bill in the House:
1.          SB-374: Seeks clarifying language in an existing law dealing with Grand Jury Investigations in Baltimore City. Does not change the substance of the law.
  1. On Friday, the House voted on the following bills for Third Reader:

  1. Next week will be the final push. The billion dollar Capital budget (HB-71) will be challenged and we could see the “Dream Act” (illegal alien in-state tuition), the Governor’s “Big Wind” and “Septic Ban” still find their way to the floor. Pay particular attention this week as the votes fly.

Crappy Daily Times Newspaper Route

I live in the Elk Creek subdivision which is across Jackson Road from the Deer Harbor subdivision.

Beginning about two months ago, we in Elk Creek noticed that someone had been taking craps in our neighborhood.  Not in the woods or in the grassy areas, but in the road and leaving toilet paper with it.  For almost two weeks straight, about every other day, they left 9 craps.  Then it stopped for several weeks.

Then we noticed the person or persons did it several times in Deer Harbor.  This is a very strange situation, so it has been the topic of conversation.  I had been talking to a friend about it and she told me the same thing had been happening down her lane.  She lives in Rehoboth Maryland and her lane runs along the river.
The person had been going on her lane, not in the woods or grassy area and the person also left toilet paper.

On one of the occasions, the person dropped their driver's license and credit card out of their pants pocket.  My friend said she did not recall the name of the person, but that she had her friend take it to the MSP barrack.  It turned out the id and credit card belonged to a Daily Times delivery person.

My friend said that her husband called the Times and complained that their delivery person may be crapping on their lane.  The crapping continued and my friends finally cancelled the Times at which time the crapping stopped.  SO, after hearing my friends story.  I believe the person taking a dump in Elk Creek and Deer Harbor is a Daily Times delivery person.

I've talked to Gary Baker and Mike Lewis about it, they've provided extra patrols for the past few months, but haven't been able to catch anyone.  Plus, unless you catch them in the act, what's the crime.  It's just soooo nasty.  Not that I'm an expert on poop, but it's not like dog poop that disintegrates and goes away after a few days.  The crap that's in the street at the front of our neighborhood is still there after two months.

My neighbors and I have talked about doing a stake out, but it's so sporadic.  The last poop was on 3/17 in Elk Creek in the street at the front of the neighborhood.  There is one today in Deer Harbor on Five Friars Road on the left as soon as you turn off Deer Harbor Drive.  We were trying to see if there was a pattern, but I don't think there is.  Any thoughts?

A Letter To The Editor

IS SHE ANOTHER SALISBURY STEALTH CANDIDATE?

It could be déjà vu all over again in the City Council this week.

Recall what happened four years ago, when a little known come-here/from here was the top vote getter, and the nightmare that resulted under the Smith-Comegys-Shields regime. Louweasel campaigned as being independent of the other candidates, but managed to obtain the “third vote” of many who supported other candidates with more definite positions and platforms, whichever side they were on. She portrayed herself as having special skills in fiscal and financial matters gained in her career as an former auditor in some governmental system in Florida. In fact, little was known about her or her career. But it was one of those elections, not unlike the current one, in which “civility” and “getting along” dominated the candidates’ forums and debate and someone who sounded good could do well despite the electorate’s lack of pertinent information about that candidate.

Fast forward to the present and consider Laura Mitchell, who claims to have “significant” experience in municipal financial matters, but has not said what it consists of or how and where she got it. Then there’s her claim to be an almost CPA – does that sound a more than a bit like being “an auditor.” Sure there are differences between her and Smith, such as age, marital status and residential situation, but the similarity is striking, And look at those yard signs and the ones next to them. The message: “everyone likes Laura.”

But does anyone really know her?

Should Kagan Recuse From Health Cases? Internal DOJ Emails Raise Questions

“Absolutely right on. Let’s crush them,” wrote Principal Deputy Solicitor General Neal Katyal. “I’ll speak to Elena and designate someone.”

The Elena here is then-Solicitor General Elena Kagan--now a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Katyal was writing at 10:57 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010.

Two weeks before that, on Christmas Eve, the U.S. Senate had passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the unprecedented bill promoted by President Barack Obama that mandated that individual Americans must buy health insurance.  Already—as reported in a Dec. 30, 2009 New York Times article--Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum was examining the possibility of a lawsuit to challenge the bill if it became law and, as the Times put it, there were “nearly a dozen other states who have also threatened to sue over the mandate.”

Katyal on the morning of January 8 was responding to an email—sent under the subject line “Health Care Defense”--that he had received from Brian Hauck, senior counsel to Associate Attorney General Tom Perrelli.

“Hi Neal,” Hauck had written. “Tom wants me to put together a group to get thinking about how to defend against the inevitable challenges to the health care proposals that are pending, and hoped that OSG [Office of the Solicitor General] could participate. Could you figure out the right person or people for that? More the merrier. He is hoping to meet next week if we can.”

Less than a minute after writing back to Hauck indicating his desire to “crush” the “inevitable challenges” to the health-care bill, Katyal forwarded Hauck’s email to his boss, Solicitor General Elena Kagan.

Uncle Steny: Tea Party Republicans Acting Like ‘Dictators’ On Budget Negotiations

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said that conservative Republicans who oppose anything less than the significant budget cuts they promised their constituents were acting like “dictators” and were to blame for stalled budget negotiations.

Harkening back to the government shutdown of 1996, Hoyer blamed what he called the “perfectionist caucus” for refusing to compromise, then and now.

“The last time government shut down President Clinton was President of the United States,” Hoyer told reporters at his weekly media briefing.

“And what happened then was the perfectionist caucus thought they would be the dictators and do it their way or no way. That’s what’s happening now.”

The phrase “perfectionist caucus,” Hoyer pointed out, came from an Oct. 20, 1998 speech by then-Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) that lectured House conservatives who opposed the 1999 balanced budget because it made policy concessions to Clinton.

Hoyer, in borrowing Gingrich’s phrase, was criticizing current-day House conservatives such as Reps. Steve King (R-Iowa) and Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and others for opposing any government spending plan that does not satisfy their particular policy goals.

King has said that he will oppose any spending bill that does not completely de-fund the Obamacare health reform law, including approximately $105 billion in automatic spending programs begun when the law passed last spring.

Pence has said that in addition to the complete defunding of Obamacare, he will oppose any spending bill that does not deny federal family planning money to Planned Parenthood – the nation’s largest abortion provider – even though it is already illegal for Planned Parenthood to use federal money to provide abortions.

Hoyer said that it was this “perfectionist caucus” who would be to blame if the government shuts down again, not Democrats. Hoyer, trying to drive a wedge between House GOP leadership and the conservative rank-and-file, said that the Tea Party “tail” was wagging the Republican “dog.”

The Muslim Brotherhood In America: Part III--'The Settlement Process'

Thus far in our journey towards better understanding the threat from the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in the United States, we have laid the foundation of their global strategy, their foundational beliefs, and their arrival in the U.S. in the 1960’s.  As we have discussed, the Brotherhood established their first organization in 1963 at the University of Illinois in Urbana – the Muslim Students Association (MSA) – and from the MSA, nearly every major Islamic organization in the United States was formed – all MB front groups.

But how did the Brotherhood actually insinuate itself into the fabric of America?  How is it possible that today the most prominent Islamic organizations in North America are controlled by the Brotherhood and actually seek to subordinate the individual liberties of Americans (and Canadians) to the slavery of Shariah (Islamic Law)?  In Part III of this series, we set out to help clarify the way the MB “settled” here in America.  Please note the MB did so with their objectives clearly at the forefront of their minds – (1) re-establish the global Islamic state (Caliphate) and (2) implement Shariah (Islamic Law).

For this exercise I will use two extremely useful Muslim Brotherhood documents.  The first is a speech given by Zaid Naman (aka Zeid al Noman), a member of the MB’s Board of Directors and the “Masul” (Leader) of the MB’s Executive Office in the United States.  Naman was speaking in the early-1980’s to a group of Muslim Brothers in the U.S.  A recording of this speech was discovered in the 2004 FBI raid of the Annandale, Virginia residence of Hamas/MB official Ismail Elbarasse, where the archives of the Muslim Brotherhood in the U.S. were found.  The English transcript of this speech was entered into evidence at the US v HLF trial in Dallas 2008 – the largest successfully prosecuted terrorism financing and Hamas trial in U.S. history.  This speech is so powerful because this group of Muslim Brothers shared the history and strategy of the Brotherhood here in the U.S. with the expectation their comments would never see the light of day.

The second source is the Muslim Brotherhood’s strategic document – An Explanatory Memorandum – dated 1991 and also seized during the Elbarasse raid in 2004.  This document was written by Mohamed Akram, a senior Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood official in the U.S. at the time, and approved by the MB’s Shura Council and Organizational Conference – the two governing bodies within the MB structure here.  (The third part of the MB structure is the “General Masul” or Leader of the MB for the entire U.S.)

Both of these documents were entered into evidence at the HLF trial and stipulated to by the defense, which means they are legally what they purport to be.

The process of settlement is a “Civilization-Jihadist Process” with all the word means. The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions. Without this level of understanding, we are not up to this challenge and have not prepared ourselves for Jihad yet. It is a Muslim’s destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes, and there is no escape from that destiny except for those who chose to slack.

The above paragraph IS the MB strategy.  Civilization-Jihad “by their hands” – OUR hands.  The Muslim Brotherhood’s strategy for destroying the United States is to get us, specifically our leadership, to do the bidding of the MB for them. The Muslim Brotherhood intends to conduct Civilization Jihad by co-opting our leadership into believing a counterfactual understanding of Islam and the nature of the Muslim Brotherhood, thereby coercing these leaders to enforce the MB narrative on their subordinates. Be assured they are doing this with great success.

Political, military, law enforcement, media, and religious leaders are being duped across America by the MB leadership.  The approach tactics differ depending on the targeted organization – ie for media the approach may be a “civil rights” basis, while for Christian leaders it will be based on the Muslims’ claiming they are “also followers of Jesus” without the explanation that to the Muslims, Jesus was a Muslim prophet.

Here is how it works:

If Obama Gets Re-elected, He’ll Have GOP To Thank

Did the big March jobs report put President Obama back on the road to reelection? If so, he can thank the GOP, whose tax cuts saved him from himself.

You could hear cheering all the way from the West Wing when the Labor Department showed a 216,000 gain in nonfarm payrolls, the biggest number in quite some time. Plus, the unemployment rate continued its decline to 8.8 percent. Not so long ago it was nearly 10 percent.

Corporate payrolls have now increased by 478,000 for the first three months of the year. Over the past three months, the average payroll gain has been 159,000, which is more than twice the monthly gain in 2010. If payrolls stay on track, that would mean nearly 2 million jobs created in 2011.

So sure, the White House must be very happy. In fact, everybody should be happy at an improving jobs picture.

But here’s the sublime irony. The wake-up in job creation is a function of Republican policy. After all, for two years the Obama Democrats spent themselves into oblivion, with over $1 trillion of so-called big-government stimulus. Didn’t work. By the end of last year, that failed stimulus wore off, and it was replaced by Republican tax cuts.

Remember that in mid-December, after his election shellacking, President Obama signed a deal that extended the Bush tax rates across the board. The top marginal rate stayed at 35 percent. Investment tax rates for cap-gains and dividends held at 15 percent. Most business people I know — folks who work in both large and small companies — welcomed the tax-rate freeze as a sign that maybe the war against growth, capital formation, and small business was either coming to an end or at least a two-year truce.

So, presto, the jobs numbers start jumping in the new low-tax year.

The most important tell-tale sign for jobs is the household employment survey, which includes most of the nation’s small businesses. It’s the survey that signals real turning points in job creation since it’s the small-business owner-operators who are most sensitive to changing marginal tax rates.

And clearly, tax incentives matter: For March, the household survey jumped 291,000. Year-to-date, household employment is up 658,000, and is on track for a 2.6 million gain for the year. This small-business jobs push is also what’s driving down the unemployment rate.

So it looks like Republican tax cuts have saved Obama from himself. And the GOP ought to stay on this tax-cutting path as they move toward limiting the budget. Full-throated flat-tax reform to lower marginal rates and broaden the base will create brand new incentives for growth and jobs.

National Republican Senatorial Committee Launches Ad FOR Obama

The National Republican Senatorial Campaign has launched the first presidential advertisement of the season … for Barack Obama.

Not just any ad, mind you, but — in a fashion that would make Greg Gutfeld cheer — one in which the president is so awesome that not only he has solved all the nation’s problems, he also is able to fly over a rainbow on a unicorn.

Of course, it ran on April 1.   :-)

The commercial, posted on YouTube, praises Obama for working so hard (while flashing images of him golfing and fishing), cutting the deficit (while showing the deficit numbers continue to rise), consulting with key figures (whiles showing him dancing with Paul McCartney) and tackling the great challenges of our generation (while Obama fills out his March Madness brackets).

The ad ends with Obama riding a unicorn over a rainbow as the narrator implores the audience for “four more years!”

Bitter Irony Of Socialized Medicine

A former director of Britain's National Health Service, which runs the country's socialized medicine system, has died while waiting 9 months for an operation- at her own hospital.

Margaret Hutchon, a former mayor, had been waiting since last June for a follow-up stomach operation at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex.

But her appointments to go under the knife were cancelled four times and she barely regained consciousness after finally having surgery.

Her devastated husband, Jim, is now demanding answers from Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust - the organisation where his wife had served as a non-executive member of the board of directors.

Live Today Because Tomorrow Is Not Promised

V  One day a woman's husband died, and on that clear, cold morning, in the warmth of their bedroom, the wife was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't "anymore". No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat, no more "just one minute." Sometimes, what we care about the most gets all used up and goes away, never to return before we can say good-bye, say "I love you."

So while we have it, it's best we love it, care for it, fix it when it's broken and heal it when it's sick. This is true for marriage.....And old cars... And children with bad report cards, and dogs with bad hips, and aging parents and grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it.

Some things we keep -- like a best friend who moved away or a sister-in-law after divorce. There are just some things that make us happy, no matter what.

Life is important, like people we know who are special.. And so, we keep them close!

I received this from someone who thought I was a 'keeper'! Then I sent it to the people I think of in the same way... Now it's your turn to send this to all those people who are "keepers" in your life, including the person who sent it, if you feel that way.  Suppose one morning you never wake up, do all your friends know you love them?

I was thinking...I could die today, tomorrow or next week, and I wondered if I had any wounds needing to be healed, friendships that needed rekindling or three words needing to be said.

Let every one of your friends know you love them. Even if you think they don't love you back, you would be amazed at what those three little words and a smile
can do.  And just in case I'm gone tomorrow...

I LOVE YA!!!

Live today because tomorrow is not promised.

CHICK - FIL- A

Believe I'll go to Chick-fil-A and get some "Jesus Chicken" and waffle fries for my family at least once a week.  Chick-fil-A is an American success story.  Founded by Georgian entrepreneur Truett Cathy in 1946, the family-owned chicken-sandwich chain is one of the country's largest fast-food businesses.  It employs some 50,000 workers across the country at 1,500 outlets in nearly 40 states and the District of Columbia .  The company generates more than $2 billion in revenue and serves millions of happy customers with trademark Southern hospitality.

So, what's the problem?  Well, Chick-fil-A is run by devout Christians who believe in strong marriages, devoted families, and the highest standards of character for their workers.  The restaurant chain's official corporate mission is to "glorify God" and "enrich the lives of everyone we touch." The company's community-service initiatives, funded through its WinShape Foundation, support foster-care, scholarship, summer-camp, and marriage-enrichment programs.  On Sunday, all Chick-fil-A stores close so workers can spend the day at worship and rest.

Over the past month, several progressive-activist blogs have waged an ugly war against Chick-fil-A.  The company's alleged atrocity: One of its independent outlets in Pennsylvania donated some sandwiches and brownies to a marriage seminar run by the Pennsylvania Family Institute, which happens to oppose same-sex marriage.

In the name of tolerance, the anti-Chick-fil-A hawks sneered at the company's main product as "Jesus Chicken," derided its no-Sunday-work policy, and attacked its operators as "anti-gay." Petition drives on websites are demanding the company change and disavow their standards.  Facebook users dutifully organized witch hunts against the company on college campuses.

Progressive groups are gloating over Chick-fil-A's public-relations troubles.  This is not because they care about winning hearts and minds over gay rights or marriage policy, but because their core objective is to marginalize political opponents and chill Christian philanthropy and activism.  The fearsome "muscle flexing" is being done by the hysterical bullies trying to drive them off of college grounds and out of their neighborhoods in the name of "human rights."

Thief Steals Computer, Stabs Marine, Trips And Falls - Slightly Injured

3-24-11 From: @comcast.net Augusta, GA

Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Georgia, told police he observed a male customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveillance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket... When confronted the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.

Outside on the sidewalk were four Marines collecting toys for the "Toys for Tots" program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of the Marines, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back; the injury did not appear to be severe.

After Police and an ambulance arrived at the scene Cpl. Duggan was transported for treatment.

The subject was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw...injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off of the curb after stabbing the Marine.

Now that was a well written Police report.

Missing Workers Found Dead At Japan Nuclear Plant

Effort to plug up leak of radioactive water into Pacific Ocean fails

Two missing Fukushima nuclear plant workers were found dead on Sunday as more highly radioactive water spilled into the sea and authorities struggled to seal the leak.

The two workers — a 21-year-old and a 24-year-old — had been missing since a massive March 11 earthquake and tsunami, but their bodies were discovered only last week at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear complex.

Brooke’s Day On April 17th

The daughter of Shane West, a 5-year employee at Market Street, and Tammy Shockley West, has recently been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer).  She is 13 years old and attends Wicomico Middle School.  Her journey with cancer began with pain and swelling in her right hip.  An MRI and biopsy confirmed the cancer.  Further tests indicate that Brooke has 4 tumors that have spread to her lungs.  She is currently undergoing chemo treatments and will eventually require surgery to remove the tumors in her lungs and hip.  She will also require hip replacement surgery.

On Sunday, April 17, we will be holding another “Brooke Lauren’s Day” at Market Street from 10:00 to 7:00.  Market Street will be donating 50% of all food sales to an account that is being established at The Bank of Delmarva which will benefit Brooke Shockley’s expenses and treatments associated with her cancer.  There will be a brunch and a lunch special and a regular dinner menu. There will be basket raffles and 50/50 drawings throughout the day.  We will also have balloons and face painting for the kids and each child will receive a free ice cream sundae.  Seating will be on a first come, first serve basis.

To check on Brooke’s progress, be sure to visit www.caringbridge.org/visit/brookeshockley

Joe, I promised I would write when we found our kitty.  It took a few weeks and borrowing a cat trap to bring her home.  She kept coming around, but was too scared outside to let us pick her up.  We caught her tonight and she is so happy to be back home.  :)  She came in and checked in on everyone and the pets and is now settling in for a restful sleep.  Thank you for your help!  Without a few calls we would have never known she was still outside in our neighborhood and had her collar on.

I so appreciate your help and am so happy to report her being home safely.

Thank you again!

Senate President Talks About Alcohol Tax Speed Up

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller said Friday he would be open raising the alcohol tax at a faster pace than it would be under current legislation, but only if the money is used to address a structural imbalance in the state budget.

Miller told senators at the end of the Senate's Friday that he would be willing to increase the alcohol sales tax from 6 percent to 9 percent. To underscore his point, Miller said the state's Department of Legislative Services has noted that the budget lawmakers are currently working on is underfunded by about $221 million for the next fiscal year.

Maryland Officials Want To Ban DUI Checkpoint Mobile Apps

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — State police say there’s a new way drunk drivers are getting around their DUI checkpoints. They download detours on their cell phones. Now the state wants to keep the software away from drivers.

Gigi Barnett has more.

Smart phone technology can be a drivers dream. It has GPS features for directions and if there’s trouble, cell phones have quick-dial emergency buttons.

But now, Google and Apple have a cell phone software that pinpoints exactly where police have set up DUI checkpoints. And Maryland’s Attorney General, Doug Gansler, wants it off the market.

“It’s much like giving a robber a key and the alarm pad code to go rob a bank on a map. It’s just not appropriate, it doesn’t help society and people die as a result,” he said.

State police agree; they want the app nixed, too.

SECOND SUSPECT CHARGED IN KENT CO. HOME INVASION

(BALTIMORE, MD) -- Maryland State Police today served a warrant on a suspect hospitalized in Baltimore, charging him in connection with yesterday’s home invasion in Kent County.

The accused is identified as Timothy C. Brown, 29, of the 300-block of Oyster Catcher Court, Cambridge, Md. Brown is charged with first, third, and fourth degree burglary, first degree assault, two counts of second degree assault, use of a handgun in commission of a violent crime, and motor vehicle theft.

State Police served the charges on Brown this afternoon at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he continues to undergo treatment for a gunshot wound to his arm. A court commissioner held a bond hearing at the hospital and ordered Brown committed to the Baltimore City Detention Center on a $350,000 bond. Brown will remain under police guard until he is released from the hospital and confined in the detention center or posts bail.

Brown is the second suspect charged in connection with the early morning home invasion that occurred yesterday in the 8300-block of Broadneck Road in Chestertown. During a police search for the suspects, it is believed Brown stole a pickup truck from a home about one mile from the scene and, when spotted by deputies, led police on a pursuit into Rock Hall. The pursuit ended shortly after Brown was shot when he attempted to run down the Kent County sheriff.

The investigation is continuing.
