Pro-Growth Stars in CA-11, NY-19, AZ-8, MD-1, PA-4 Join ‘Generation Club’

WASHINGTON
– Club for Growth PAC today announced its endorsements of five more candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives: David Harmer in California’s 11th congressional district, Nan Hayworth in New York’s 19th, Jesse Kelly in Arizona’s 8th, Andy Harris in Maryland’s 1st, and Keith Rothfus in Pennsylvania’s 4th.

“Club for Growth PAC is looking for the best of the best of 2010’s general election candidates, and in David Harmer, Nan Hayworth, Jesse Kelly, Andy Harris, and Keith Rothfus, we have found five of them,” said Club President Chris Chocola. “Each is a principled leader and a dynamic spokesman for America’s founding principles of economic freedom and limited government. Club for Growth PAC will get to work immediately to help these latest members of Generation Club win in November and drive a pro-growth agenda in the House for the next two years.”

All five are taking on vulnerable Democrat incumbents in November. Harmer is taking on incumbent Rep. Jerry McNerney. Hayworth faces Rep. John Hall. Kelly faces Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Harris faces Rep. Kratovil. And Rothfus faces Rep. Jason Altmire.

Harmer, Hayworth, Kelly, Harris, and Rothfus make 28 candidates the Club for Growth PAC has endorsed in the 2010 election cycle. They join Senators Jim DeMint (S.C.) and Tom Coburn (Okla.), Congressman Tom Graves (GA-09), Senate candidates Mike Lee (Utah), Ron Johnson (Wis.), Sharron Angle (Nev.), Rand Paul (Ky.), Marco Rubio (Fla.), Ken Buck (Col.), Joe Miller (Alaska), and Pat Toomey (Pa.), and House candidates Tim Huelskamp (KS-01), Mike Pompeo (KS-04), Jeff Duncan (SC-03), Tim Scott (SC-01), Justin Amash (MI-03), Mick Mulvaney (SC-05), Todd Young, (IN-09), Stephen Fincher (TN-08), Tim Griffin (AR-02), and David Schweikert (AZ-05).

Sen. DeMint: 'It's Going To Take A Few Years' To Repeal ObamaCare

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C) said it could take years to repeal the Democrats' $1-trillion health care overhaul mandating the individual purchase of health insurance.

DeMint, in an interview with CNSNews.com during the Values Voters Summit on Friday, also said the Republican Party should run on the economic plan presented by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to address tax policy and solvency for Social Security and Medicare.

“It’s going take a few years” to repeal the health-care reform bill, DeMint told CNSNews.com.
“What we can do after this election is delay the funding and implementation of the bill and then get a president in 2012 who understands this is going to ruin medicine and bankrupt our country.”

The Ryan plan, "A Roadmap for America's Future," has only 13 co-sponsors in the House and has not become a platform for the 2010 mid-term elections. CNSNews.com asked DeMint if the Ryan plan should be similar to the 1994 “Contract with America,” the platform that helped Republicans retake Congress that year.

“Paul Ryan’s roadmap to the future is the only comprehensive legislation now that fixes our tax code, saves Social Security and Medicare and fixes our health care system and begins to cut spending over a long period of time,” DeMint said.“

The fact that it has been so difficult to get congressmen and senators to even have a hearing on something like this just tells you that our focus is not on the national interest, it’s on self-serving political interests that are symbolized by this earmark factory,” he added.

The Congressional Budget Office said the “roadmap” would put Medicare on a more sustainable path. The Ryan plan preserves Medicare and Social Security for those 55 and older, but it reforms the program to preserve it for younger generations.

Rich Colburn & Jeannie Hadaway Host Fundraiser At Red Roost

Since When Do Dogs Enjoy Crabs So Much?

Let me tell you how to host the best fundraiser. The first thing you do is you go to Fruitland, where the citizens recognize great causes.

The Fruitland Police Department is in need of a K-9 Dog. Do they go to the Mayor and City Council and propose they shove the expense down the taxpayers throats like the City of Salisbury has notoriously done for so many years in the past, NO!

Instead, the Chief of Police pulls everyone together and provides a fundraiser for a great price. So many people showed up for this event, they may have just paid for the entire expense in one fundraiser.

This is the exact kind of example every other community needs to learn from. You see it in Willards, Pittsville, Parsonsburg, Delmar and so many other local communities. It's the right thing to do and that's why they're so successful.

Hundreds of people showed up for $25.00 a head and All-You-Can-Eat Crabs, hamburgers and hot dogs. Heck, even the beer was included!

Fruitland, my hat is tipped to you and while I was only going to pop in for a few minutes and head off to another fundraiser, there were just too many "good people" there to walk away. I paid my $25.00 and stuck around for 3 hours. Thanks for a great time and congratulations on the success of this event.

Shore Transit Holds Family Fun Day At Wi-Hi

Shore Transit hosts one big event of the year and this year it was held on Sunday. While they work 7 days a week, Sunday is the slowest route day. They shared many of their vehicles displayed in the parking lot and one of them is shown above. It's a new bus they just got in.

Fernando Guerrero and Hal Chernoff were kind enough to pop in and spend some time with the kids, (and adults) proving once again, this guy has not and will not forget where he came from. Fernando may be soft spoken but let me assure you, you don't want to be on the receiving end of one of his punches.

Media Duped By Reid's Cries Of 'Obstructionism'

Crying "obstructionism" is a tradition for Senate majority leaders, and Harry Reid does it as frequently and piously as anyone. But Reid, with the cooperation of a news media confused by the upper chamber's rules, has defined "obstructionism" down, and this week is blaming conservative Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., for blocking a bill even though Reid hasn't even tried to move it yet.

Food safety legislation sponsored by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., would give the Food and Drug Administration sweeping new powers, and thus has spurred fierce opposition from small farmers and local produce advocates, while big food producers support the measure. Coburn has expressed concerns about burdens on small business and the bill's cost to taxpayers. He's also argued that the bill multiplies regulatory redundancies and complexity, thus harming effective enforcement.

The House passed a similar bill last year, and if the Senate doesn't pass a bill this year, the process would have to start over again.

The Democratic leadership's line -- swallowed whole by much of the media -- is that the Senate could easily pass this bill, but Coburn, a notorious gadfly, is holding it up.

"We thought we finally had it worked out," Reid said on the Senate floor. "We could take care of this, but Senator Coburn has said no."

Farmers Incredulous As EPA Debate Tougher Rules On Dust

As they begin the fall harvest, wary farmers are watching a federal debate over whether to clamp down on one of rural life's constant companions — the dust clouds that farm machinery kick up in fields and along unpaved roads.

Farming groups have urged the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to retain its current standards for dust, soot and other microscopic particles, arguing that tighter restrictions would be unworkable and that dust isn't a real pollutant.

Grain farmer Charles Schmitt, who farms about 2,000 acres of corn and soybeans near the southwestern Indiana town of Haubstadt, called the possibility of tougher rules on dust "ridiculous."

The 59-year-old, who's farmed for more than four decades, said there's little farmers can do to reduce dust, especially after a dry summer like this year's that left his fields parched.

"Mother Nature has more to do with it than we do — there's going to be dust and dirt no matter what," Schmitt said.

The EPA is reviewing its airborne pollutant standards, as required every five years under the Clean Air Act. It's looking both at its standards for tiny particles of industrial pollution, and slightly larger particles called "coarse particulate matter" that include dust.

Supporters of tougher restrictions said they're needed to help clear the air of tiny grains that can lodge deep in the lungs, worsening heart and respiratory problems.

But farming and livestock groups and some lawmakers call those risks overstated. They argue that tighter rules could hurt rural areas, which they fear might exceed new limits and be required to implement plans to reduce dust.

In July, nearly two dozen senators from farm states urged EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson in a joint letter to keep in place the current particulate standards, approved in 2006.

Tougher standards, their letter warned, would result in "extremely burdensome" dust control measures to bring regions into compliance and "could slow economic development and impose significant cost to farmers and businesses."

Colin Powell: Illegals Work On My House

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says illegal immigrants do essential work in the U.S. and he has firsthand knowledge of that because they fix his house.

Mr. Powell, a moderate Republican, urged his party Sunday to support immigration generally because it is "what's keeping this country's lifeblood moving forward."

In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," he said a path to legal status should be offered to illegal immigrants because they "are doing things we need done in this country."

He added: "They're all over my house, doing things whenever I call for repairs, and I'm sure you've seen them at your house. We've got to find a way to bring these people out of the darkness and give them some kind of status."

Mr. Powell did not say whether he's hired illegal immigrants directly or they showed up with contractors.

'Governator' Asks China To Bail Out California

Is China a friend or an enemy?

With the continuing economic downturn in the United States, it's hard to tell whether China is a major part of the problem or a central part of the solution, Jerome Corsi's Red Alert reports.

While the Obama administration is preparing to pressure China to stop unfair trade practices, including keeping the yuan artificially low on foreign-exchange markets to boost Chinese exports, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is courting China to finance high-speed rail in the state as a way to create jobs and possibly keep the state from having to declare bankruptcy.

Harley-Davidson's Aging Biker Problem

FORTUNE -- Harley-Davidson was the feel-good turnaround story of the 1990s and then the poster-boy for brand values in the 2000s. How often did you read that Harley was the only consumer brand whose customers were so loyal they wore the company's logo tattooed on their chest?

But after expanding exuberantly in the last decade, Harley has fallen on hard times. Now it is struggling against a foe that not even cost-cutting nor brand loyalty can overcome: demographics. Its current owners are getting old, and not enough younger ones are coming up behind them.

Harley's core customer is a middle-aged white American male, a group that will contract in the coming decade. As one blogger wrote, "The 60-70-year old riders have trouble lifting a leg over the seat because of arthritis. And finger joints hurt with the cold air and engine vibration." Women represent just 11% of Harley buyers, and penetration in the African-American and Hispanic markets is similarly limited.

Harley's need to readjust its aspirations was driven home this week by the news that the company had forced its Wisconsin labor unions to accept wage and benefit concessions by threatening to move its factories out of the state. New contracts will allow the company to cut 325 employees and convert 150 to 250 other workers to temporary or "casual" status, meaning they have fewer benefits and will work on an "as-needed basis.

The cutbacks come as Harley (HOG, Fortune 500) scales back in the face of a sharply shrinking market. As recently as 2008, Harley built 303,000 motorcycles, nearly double the 159,000 it assembled in 2000. This year it expects to make between 201,000 and 210,000 bikes. Since new CEO Keith Wandell arrived on the scene in May, 2009, Harley has consolidated operations, terminated its Buell line of sport bikes, and sold its MV Agusta Italian motorcycles back to its founder.

Obama Removes "Creator" From The Declaration Of Independence

Evolution Craft Brewing In Delmar

Corruption on the Salisbury City Council?

The Daily Times’ Laura D’Alessandro draws a sketch, but refuses to paint a picture, in her piece regarding Salisbury City Council members and their campaign contributors.  We are asked if we believe council members such as Louise Smith, Gary Comegys, and Shanie Shields would sell their votes for a mere $250 (the maximum contribution).  That would be a valid point, IF that’s what we are talking about.  Sadly, it isn’t.

In the cases of Comegys and Shields (and the Re-Elect Louise Smith campaign in 2011, mark my words) we are not talking about a series of $250 contributions.  The valid way to think of these individual contributions are as BIG CHECKS from SAPOA, the slumlords’ guild.  SAPOA members and their friends financed almost all of Shields’ campaigns.  The majority of Comegys’ 2007 re-election effort and his 2009 mayoral campaign came from the coffers of SAPOA members and pals.  Most of the balance? Friends and allies of former mayor Barrie Tilghman.  In addition to the cash contributions, there is the large amount of “under the table” money expended by SAPOA members -  Letter to tenants stating that they will be thrown into the streets if Terry Cohen, Debbie Campbell, or Jim Ireton are elected; mailings by fictitious, anonymous committees that claim all sorts of evil by the non-SAPOA endorsed candidates.

Like most everyone else, I failed that mind reading class in college.  Therefore, I can’t say with any certainty that these contributions are bribes or that there is a quid pro quo.  Let’s just assume that they aren’t.  The only other credible answer is that these council members share a philosophical or policy bond with SAPOA.  In other words, they must honestly believe that SAPOA members are above the law, that renters deserve no protection from bad landlords, and that owner-occupants should simply have to but up with crime, blight, declining property values, and general nuisance from a relatively few tenants who simply won’t live like decent, normal citizens.

Everyone has a right to their opinion.  Salisbury citizens simply must make Smith, Comegys, and Shields publicly own up to theirs.  City elections are next year.  Get ready for all sorts of shenanigans from SAPOA.  The status quo must be protected.  Citizens be damned!

BP Well Is Dead, But Gulf Challenges Live On

Long-term environmental, industry and legal impacts from spill remain unknown

The "nightmare well" is dead. But the Gulf Coast's bad dream is far from over.

Federal officials declared Sunday that the well where the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded had finally been killed . Workers drilled a relief well into the damaged one and sealed it with cement.
Its official end came 11 years after Texaco first sank an exploratory well near that same spot 50 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico, then moved on after finding it unprofitable. When BP PLC purchased the rights to explore for oil there in 2008, it held an in-house well-naming contest.

The winning team chose the name Macondo, after the mythical town from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude."

Black Lawmakers Must Rally Voters Back Home

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama implored black voters on Saturday to rekindle the passion they felt for his groundbreaking campaign and turn out in force this fall to repel Republicans who are ready to "turn back the clock."

In a fiery speech to the Congressional Black Caucus, Obama warned that Republicans hoping to seize control of Congress want "to do what's right politically, instead of what's right - period."

"I need everybody here to go back to your neighborhoods, to go back to your workplaces, to go to the churches, and go to the barbershops and go to the beauty shops. And tell them we've got more work to do," Obama said to cheers from a black-tie audience at the Washington Convention Center. "Tell them we can't wait to organize. Tell them that the time for action is now."

His speech acknowledged what pollsters have been warning Democrats for months - that blacks are among the key Democratic groups who right now seem unlikely to turn out in large numbers in November.

"It's not surprising given the hardships that we're seeing across the land that a lot of people may not be feeling very energized, very engaged right now," Obama said. "A lot of folks may be feeling like politics is something that they get involved with every four years when there's a presidential election, but they don't see why they should bother the rest of the time."

But he said he's just begun rolling back a devastating recession that's come down "with a vengeance" on African-American neighborhoods that were already suffering.

Essay

This essay was written by my niece after learning that another student in her class had been killed. It offers another perspective on what our children are facing.

Being the bullet....or being the target....a teenager's life

You jus don't know hard it is that i hafta go out into the world....knowing that anything could happen to me...at ANY moment. The part that sad about it is that 9 times outta 10 if something were to happen....it would have been bestowed on me by someone who wouldn't be that much older than myself.

what happened to us?.....to our generation? to the kids of everyday life?.....does the world not care about us anymore?...neglected us so much that we resort to 9 milimeters, knives, drugs and sex? is this a cry for attention or one for help? Why is it suddenly cool to kill people for less than a dollar? or for things not worth anything more than some dirty old nike shoes that had been sittin in yo closet for a half a year? What is cool about gettin teenage girls pregnant and then not wanting to take responibility for the child that YOU brought into this world who probably, because of YOU, will grow up to be jus like you....if not...then worse!? Our generation is hangin by a thread.......there is only a slither of some morals, common sense, and well being..........the rest is us shooting at each other....."killin niggas fo noffin!" is what we say. Trappin on the street like thats a kool thing to do. there or other ways to make money yall!!!! get a job! get an education! be something!.....

.....jus dont be that something at the other end of a bullet.......and please dont be that something who shot it!

teenage life is hard these days........not cuz we are at that age where we rebel against our parents and are at an awkward level with ourselves...learnin who we are, why we are here, and goin thru puberty.......no!......its hard cuz of the fact that teenagers do horrible things to each other!.......the social status between us is a battlefield......not anything beautiful about it.........

.....so as for me! yea i still gotta get up every day knowing and dealing with the suspense and tension from other ppl my age......but im not gonna be the bulllet....im not gonna be the target......i'm gonna be everything else that is and isn't.......everything that tells me to be me and to make sure that i go that extra mile to make good decisions. to be that something everyone wants to be!........

and don't yall be lookin at this n be all like "Man! she crazy! Do she know how niggas are today? they aint gone change cuz she said all this crap....Man if she was nigga she wouldn't be sayin this......" people be like...i'm not black enough to know.....

I KNOW i ain't no "nigga"! i've excluded myself from that catagory! but i can see that those "niggas" are the MAIN ppl i'm talkin about! The ones who call themselves and each other are the main teenagers exchanging bullets to their brains.

so naw....im not a nigga..........i'm the light-skinned negro wtht a BRIGHT future cuz i KNOW what's good!

Busch Gardens Plans 2 New Rides

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - Busch Gardens amusement park is planning to build two new rides.

Park officials say a nearly 250-foot drop ride called Mach Tower will open in the park's Germany section in 2011. It features 30 seats mounted on a ring that rotates as it ascends the tower. It will reach speeds of 60 mph as it drops back down.

Park officials also said on the Busch Gardens' Web site that the park plans a new roller coaster to replace its retired Big Bad Wolf, but few details were released Saturday other than a planned opening in 2012 of a "multi-launch roller coaster."

Water Country will add a 75-foot-tall slide attraction called Vanish Point. It will have four slides descending 300 feet from one tower, and you'll be propelled by your own body, not a mat.

Handicap Spot

I remember you posting these before I think, so I took this one for you. Dodge Viper with top down, no handicapped tag, nothing hanging from rear view mirror or dash, parked in handicapped spot at Five Guys in Salisbury today at 245pm. Another butthead who is too lazy to walk a little farther to get into the building, taking a space that a handicapped person may need. Five guys only has 2 handicapped spaces.

Funniest part? There were 2 open spaces right next to him that were not handicapped.

Fake Pot Laws Ineffective

Authorities in 13 states thought they were acting to curb a public health threat when they outlawed a form of synthetic marijuana known as K2, a concoction of dried herbs sprayed with chemicals.
But before the laws took effect, many stores that did a brisk business in fake pot had already gotten around the bans by making slight changes to K2's chemical formula, creating knockoffs with names such as "K3," "Heaven Scent" and "Syn."
"It's kind of pointless," said University of Missouri sophomore Brittany May after purchasing a K2 alternative called "BoCoMo Dew" at a Columbia, MO smoke shop. "They're just going to come up with another thing."
Barely six months after Kansas adopted the nation's first ban on K2, even police acknowledge that the laws are all but meaningless because merchants can so easily offer legal alternatives.
Until a year ago, products such as K2 were virtually unknown in the United States. Clemson University chemistry professor John Huffman developed the compounds in 1995 while researching the effect of cannabinoids, the active compounds found in marijuana.
Dr. Huffman had little reason to think his lab work would morph into a commercial product. He calls users of K2 and its chemical cousins "idiots," noting the lack of research into the substance's effects, which include reports of rapid heartbeats and high blood pressure. It's often labeled as incense with warnings against human consumption.
Yet Dr. Huffman has little faith that the bans designed to combat the problem will deter manufacturers or consumers. "It's not going to be effective," he said. "Is the ban on marijuana effective?"
He also doubts that law enforcement agencies will be able to devote the necessary resources to identify such complex creations as "1-pentyl-3-(1-naphthoyl)indole," the substance's scientific name. The compound sold as K2 is also known by the scientific shorthand of JWH-018, a nod to its creator's initials.
"The guy in the average crime lab isn't really capable of doing the kind of sophisticated tests necessary" to identify the substance, he said.
The bans were adopted by lawmakers or public health officials in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota and Tennessee.

Doctor In Fair Condition 3 Days After Shooting

BALTIMORE (AP) - The doctor shot by the son of an elderly patient at Johns Hopkins Hospital continues to progress in his recovery from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

A Johns Hopkins spokeswoman says orthopedic surgeon Dr. David Cohen is in fair and stable condition.

Cohen was shot Thursday morning. Police say the gunman, 50-year-old Paul Warren Pardus, became distraught after Cohen delivered news of his mother's condition. After shooting the doctor, Pardus shot and killed his mother, then himself.

Voting Has Become A Spectator Sport For The Bulk Of Those Eligible

Even reporters can be turned off by low voter turnout. Is anybody paying attention to candidates or the coverage of them?

The turnout was even worse than the widely broadcast 24%, despite early voting and easy absentee balloting. That 24% figure is based on registered voters – often termed “eligible voters.” But using U.S. Census Bureau estimates of the Maryland population 18 years and older, about 20% of people who could possibly vote in Maryland are not even registered. Subtract a couple hundred thousand felons and non-citizens, legal and otherwise, and there were still over 500,000 people who could have voted but didn’t even register on top of the 2.6 million registered voters who didn’t show up.

Are political campaigns a spectator sport like a Ravens or Redskins game where most people watch the game on TV or read about it after the fact?

Where do two minutes equal an hour? A parking garage, of course. Everyone knows this, but what about when another customer delays you and pushes you past the one-hour mark? Nathan tells Consumerist that while the customer ahead of him in line argued with the garage attendant, his own time in the garage passed one hour, and the attendant insisted that Nathan pay for the full two hours.

Mills Announces Next Fundraiser

Dustin Mills, candidate for House of Delegates, has announced his next fundraiser to be held October 4, 2010, at Market Street Inn, from 5:30-7:30. Tickets can be purchased at $30 per person or $50 per couple. Dustin will be speaking about small business and its increasingly adversarial relationship with state government. Dustin will present his views of how legislators in Annapolis can help small business. “I am pleased to be having my next event at a vibrant local business. Market Street Inn has been successful for several years, even during the current economic situation. I am humbled that they would be willing to host my event.”

Mills knows small businesses are very important to Maryland and critical to its economic rebound. “Small businesses are the lifeblood of Maryland, especially on the Eastern Shore. Legislators must do everything in their power to allow these businesses to flourish. We must stop creating new taxes and fees. We need to stop increasing and cut those taxes and fees that already exist. Entrepreneurs have a strong history of success on Delmarva and we must make sure that tradition continues and individuals are given the tools they need for success.” Mills believes that the tax burden on small business is too high and that a reduction is needed, such as cutting the sales tax increase, reforming the unemployment tax and reducing the corporate income tax, all of which are critical for returning Maryland to prosperity.
