Dress Code At New Fells Point Crab House Raises Questions

A new restaurant set to open in Baltimore's Fells Point is coming under fire after the owners posted the dress code for patrons.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the Choptank, a new fish and crab house, has drawn fire on social media from people who believe the rules are unfair toward black patrons.

The rules bar baggy clothing, athletic attire, jerseys (except on Ravens or Orioles game days), brimless headwear and hats not worn forward.

Joe Sweeney, director of the Atlas Restaurant Group, said the company does not support discrimination and is reviewing their policy.

GM workers will go on strike, the latest stoppage in a global trend of large-scale labor action

UAW workers will launch their first nationwide strike in 12 years, and the largest strike by any union since 2007.

At least 46,000 hourly General Motors employees will take to the picket line at midnight Monday, according to representatives from their union, United Auto Workers (UAW), as a result of stagnating contract negotiations with the Detroit-based automaker. This will be UAW’s first nationwide strike in 12 years.

Representatives for GM and UAW have been meeting for contract negotiations since July in order to hammer out details on wages, healthcare, benefits, profit sharing, and job security for both permanent and temporary workers. The union was also pushing for GM to reconsider the proposed closures of four facilities. Throughout, leaders on both sides expressed hope that they would reach an agreement, according to the Detroit News.

But GM workers’ contracts expired at midnight on Saturday with no agreement yet reached. At a press conference in Detroit on Sunday morning, Terry Dittes, a UAW vice president who leads the union’s GM efforts, said a strike was “our last resort.”

"You're Being Tracked" - Massive 30 State, Real-Time License Plate Database Revealed

Our worst fears about automatic license plate readers (ALPR) are much worse than we could have imagined.

Two months ago, I warned everyone that police in Arizona were using ALPR's to "grid" entire neighborhoods. But this story brings public surveillance to a whole new level.

Last month, Rekor Systems announced that they had launched the Rekor Public Safety Network (RPSN) which gives law enforcement real-time access to license plates.

"Any state or local law enforcement agency participating in the RPSN will be able to access real-time data from any part of the network at no cost. The Company is initially launching the network by aggregating vehicle data from customers in over 30 states. With thousands of automatic license plate reading cameras currently in service that capture approximately 150 million plate reads per month, the network is expected to be live by the first quarter of 2020."
RPSN is a 30 state real-time law enforcement license plate database of more than 150 million people.

And the scary thing about it is; it is free.

50,000 Marylanders in jeopardy of losing food stamps

WASHINGTON — Maryland lawmakers sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Tuesday urging the department to rescind a proposed rule that would limit Americans’ access to food stamps.

In a letter sent to USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue, Maryland lawmakers said under that under the proposed rule, 50,000 Marylanders could be in jeopardy of losing their food stamps.

According to the USDA, the rule would close a loophole that allows states to make participants receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits to automatically be eligible for USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP.)

A Georgia man shot and killed 3 masked teens as they tried to rob him at his home, police say

A Georgia homeowner shot and killed three teens as they approached his residence with their faces covered, authorities said.

The masked teens -- a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds -- approached three residents around 4 a.m. Monday at the front yard of a home just outside Conyers and tried to rob them, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said.

One of the would-be robbers took out a gun and fired shots at them before one of the residents returned fire, authorities said.
"The victims of the attempted robbery were all uninjured, but the three attempted robbery suspects were all shot during the exchange of gunfire and succumbed to their injuries, one on scene and two at a local hospital after being transported," the sheriff's department said in a news release.

Photo shows Canadian premier Justin Trudeau wearing 'brownface' at Arabian Nights party

A photograph in a school yearbook where Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used to teach depicted him in "brownface" during a gala in 2001.

The picture was taken at West Point Grey Academy's Arabian Nights-themed gala and shows a 29-year-old Trudeau wearing a turban and robes. His face, neck, and hands are completely darkened to look Middle Eastern.

Vancouver businessman Michael Adamson, who was a part of the academy's community at the time but did not attend the party, saw the picture in July and said he felt it needed to be made public.

No Cursing On SBYNews

Stop attempting to use curse words, especially the lords name in vain. While I rarely review comments any more, I do check in from time to time and over the last two days I've seen my fair share of ridiculous comments. Some of you may think certain words are the norm these days but from where I come from there's a line in which I will not allow to be crossed. If you don't like it, go somewhere else as you will get spammed and ultimately will lose the ability to make any more comments here. You've been warned.

'Free the Nipple' movement: Women can now legally go topless in 6 states

Women in six U.S. states are now effectively allowed to be topless in public, according to a new ruling by the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The decision stems from a multiyear legal battle in Fort Collins, Colo., where a city ordinance forbidding women from going shirtless in public has now officially been ruled unconstitutional.

It's an outcome that affects more than just one town. Since the 10th Circuit encompasses six states — Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Kansas and Oklahoma — the decision means it is now illegal for any town in those states to create a law forbidding public toplessness.

Wicomico County Opens Safe Station with 24/7 Recovery Services

(September 16, 2019, Salisbury, MD) On August 1, 2019, the Wicomico County Health Department in partnership with the City of Salisbury Fire Department, Hudson Health Services, and the Recovery Resource Center launched the county’s first Safe Station in an attempt to link individuals battling addiction to appropriate treatment and recovery services. The project received funding from Mid-Shore Behavioral Health, Inc. and their unwavering support has allowed this innovative program to assist 19 individuals in linkages to treatment services here in Wicomico County.

Open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, the Safe Station ensures that individuals have access to services when they determine that they are ready to do so. Slightly different than other Safe Station programs throughout the state, Wicomico County’s Safe Station is housed within the Recovery Resource Center in Salisbury, MD.
“Having the Safe Station housed within a building that supports those who struggle with addiction will hopefully breakdown any barriers that may keep individuals from utilizing this beneficial resource,” says Christina Bowie-Simpson Wicomico County Opioid Coordinator. “In the first quarter of 2019, Wicomico County saw a reduction of two lives lost to overdose when compared to the first quarter of 2018, and we are optimistic that by implementing this additional resource in our community that we will continue to see a reduction in lives being lost here in our community,” says, Lori Brewster, Wicomico County Health Officer.

This program ensures that individuals seeking treatment and recovery services at the Safe Station are met with caring and empathetic individuals who have knowledge of the disease of addiction, and understand what the individual may be experiencing upon entry. Each person who enters the Safe Station will be met by a peer in recovery from Wicomico County’s Community Outreach Addiction Team (COAT). They will then be evaluated for any medical concerns by the EMTs and Paramedics on duty at the Salisbury Fire Department, before being linked to treatment services.

For more information on the Safe Station project or recovery and treatment resources please contact the Wicomico County Opioid Coordinator at (410) 219-3956, or the Wicomico County Community Outreach Addictions Team (COAT) at (443) 783-6875.

The Navy says those UFO videos are real

The U.S. Navy has confirmed that three online videos purportedly showing UFOs are genuine. The Navy says the videos, taken by Navy pilots, show “unexplained aerial phenomena” but also states that the clips should have never been released to the public in the first place.

The three videos in question are titled "FLIR1," "Gimbal" and "GoFast." They show two separate encounters between Navy aircraft and UFOs.

One video was taken in 2015 off the East Coast by a F/A-18F fighter jet using the aircraft's onboard Raytheon AN/ASQ-228 Advanced Targeting Forward-Looking Infrared (ATFLIR) Pod. The other clip, also recorded with a Super Hornet ATFLIR pod, was taken off the coast of California in 2004 by pilots flying from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. In the videos, air crews loudly debate what the objects are and where they came from.

Why Do Maryland Elected Officials Piss Away Our Hard Earned Money

Well NO SH!T! I needed to be reminded that my drivers license is compliant. That goes for every single driver in the state. Now I could see letters going out to people who are yet to be compliant but this is a load of crap and a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. Just another reason why businessmen like President Donald Trump are getting elected. The career politicians currently in office are just plain stupid.

Question Of The Day 9-20-10

Ilhan Omar: Impeaching Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh Is ‘Our Constitutional Duty’

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) called for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh to be impeached on Sunday after the New York Times ran a piece Saturday alleging that an eyewitness saw friends of Kavanaugh push “his penis into the hand of” a female student at a college party.

The Times later added to its piece on Sunday evening that the female student did not recall the incident, according to friends, and declined to comment:

Editors’ Note: Sept. 15, 2019
An earlier version of this article, which was adapted from a forthcoming book, did not include one element of the book’s account regarding an assertion by a Yale classmate that friends of Brett Kavanaugh pushed his penis into the hand of a female student at a drunken dorm party. The book reports that the female student declined to be interviewed and friends say that she does not recall the incident. That information has been added to the article.
However, before the Times added what amounted to a walk-back of the new allegation, Democrats such as Omar began lining up for calls for Kavanaugh’s impeachment.

Sarah Sanders: Media needs to take their 'opinion out of the news'

Former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders blasted the media for opinionated reporting during a Wednesday appearance on Fox Business Network.

Sanders, who debuted as a Fox News contributor earlier this month, was on the show to discuss a litany of examples involving Trump and his allies' relationship with the media.

She and anchor David Asman discussed how the New York Times botched a story about Justice Brett Kavanaugh, publishing another allegation of sexual misconduct against him but failing to mention the alleged victim has no recollection of the incident.

Separated migrant children likely to face lifelong trauma, Congress told

WASHINGTON – Migrant children who were separated from their parents will most likely deal with that trauma for the rest of their lives, a federal official told a congressional hearing Wednesday.

“The consequences of separation for many of these children will be lifelong,” Jonathan White, Commander of the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps for the Health and Human Services Department told ranking members of several House appropriations subcommittees. “It is severe and difficult to manage even with high levels of clinical care.”

In 2018, President Donald Trump’s “zero-tolerance policy” on the Mexican border that created a new population of children being referred to facilities in the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which takes care of unaccompanied migrant children until they are released into the custody of a sponsor, usually a vetted family member.
