Dr. Ring has already made his rounds of calls forewarning Parents the Sussex County School District is looking at a possible 2 hour delay tomorrow and could possibly close.
On top of that my Grandson told me today he's got FOUR half days next week, after they just had two weeks off over the Christmas / New Years Holiday.
Man, you don't even need SNOW any more these days to get off School. Here I am stuck in an home office 365 days a year. I'm in the wrong business, that's for sure.

Delmar Middle/Senior will also close Jan. 24 presumably because Wicomico schools are closed that day.

Geez, I don't ever remember having a day off from school because of COLD or HOT temperatures & I'm originally from the NY area.

This is supposed to continue into early afternoon. Cancel school and just for once, cut the parents a break on planning.
While I don't have any children in the area schools this has to be hard on some kids. How long do they have to wait for the bus? What about the children that have to walk to school. They throw up a speed cam to keep the kids safe yet will put them in danger not canceling schools.
Dr. Freddie was a music teacher. He can't read English. If they cancel tomorrow morning, there will be a lot of ticked parents. Should decide now.

Why can't they make a decision? Do they not believe the forecast? If its 12 degrees they'll open but if its 7 they won't? Is that why they have to wait till 5:30 am? I don't get it...

The problem is that people in this area are not used to this type of weather anymore. When I was young, we owned hats, gloves, scarfs, long underwear, and big winter coats. Many kids today only own sweatshirts, or can't afford all those winter clothes. These are also the kids who have to walk to school. Kids in Doverdale must walk down Priscilla, cross Rt. 50, and down Main St. to get to Wi Middle. They could have frostbite by the time they reach school.
It's ridiculous to compare kids in 'Alaska' and other comparisons.
Common sense dictates we are not prepared for this kind of cold and as a matter of fact, it's colder in most parts of the continental US than in Anchorage. One of the major concerns is electrical failures (BG&E experiencing some in Balto area-not sure local companies.) Areas used to extreme cold take precautions such as wrapping pipes and extra insulation.

That's just it. We are not prepared as they are in areas that extreme cold can be expected such as Upstate NY. People there know things such as a good pair of vapor barrier boots are necessary for children who must wait on a bus and are purchased ahead of time. Here a lot of children only get boots when snow is predicted and they aren't the quality imperative for being outside any length of time in below 0 temps. People get their cars winterized and battery and oil pan warmers are a must. It's also not uncommon to see people leave vehicles running for several hours while shopping to prevent engine freezing.
Well I hope Dr. F. Is happy now. The kids and staff at beaver run are FREEZING! Good call JERK!!!

Why are they freezing? Is there a problem at the school or are the heaters just not able to keep up when the temperature is this low?
12:24, exactly. And the school is not completely enclosed. Students have to traverse through open corridors (old school, literally) to get from one area to another.
