COLD SHOCK: Warming Up Your Car Illegal!

WASHINGTON – The recent nationwide cold snap isn’t just making Americans uncomfortable. It’s turning some into lawbreakers.

The shocking news of state and local regulations that make it illegal to warm up your frozen car is hitting home in Texas, Maryland, Ohio, West Virginia, Colorado, Wisconsin, South Carolina – even some cities in Minnesota.

Who knew it could be illegal to run back inside while your car is warming up in winter – in a practice sometimes called “puffing”?

Many Americans are getting first-hand experience this brutal winter with the latest manifestation of what some call the “Nanny State.”

This is an urban problem. I live in the sticks, leave keys in the vehicles all the time and leave them running whenever I want. Never any problem. City folks just don't get it.

I guess I'll keep on breaking the law. Its hard on a vehicle when the weather is below freezing to just start and go. You can get a cracked engine block. If they come on my property, that is trespassing. Screw the nanny state and its stupid laws!!!!!

I can not count the number of times I've seen a police officer leave his or her squad car running while going into a convenience store.

Actually warming you car up is hard on the engine. You should start and drive immediately but slowly. Much better on your engine. Google it.

And they do it with their K9 units to run the AC during the Summer. Are they going to stop that?

its not illegal to leave it running in your own driveway, just on the street if left unattended and unlocked.
