POTHEADS: D.C Proposal Would Allow Ounce Of Weed, 6 Plants Per Household

Activists in Washington, D.C., plan to submit an initiative by week’s end that would put marijuana legalization on the ballot in the nation’s capital in November — making the city one of a handful of jurisdictions poised to ask voters to consider the issue this year.

The proposal that is expected to be submitted to the D.C. Board of Elections would allow residents to legally grow up to six marijuana plants per household and possess and transfer up to an ounce of the drug without penalty.

and wait and see the b&e's skyrocket!

anonymous 9:21, for POT, I don't think so.

Anonymous said...

Hopeful the same will happen here in Maryland.

Andy Berges said...

Maybe not B&E's skyrocketing, but skyrocketing rates of people with - lower life satisfaction, poorer mental and physical health, increased number of relationship problems, less academic and career success, and more & more people with less ambition.

Andy, You mean, like alcoholics?

Andy Berges said...

Comparable to alcoholics Joe.
What a great & admirable example us adults are setting for children by legalizing marijuana.
Just imagine the sight of parents who drink alcohol at homes in front of their children being also legally able to smoke a few bong hits hacking away afterwards in their presence during their drunken & stoned stupor.

JoeAlbero said...

Andy, you mean like Gay Marriage?

Andy Berges said...

Comparable once again.

Sounds like DC is trying to go 'green'.

I don't believe anything in society will change by the legalization of pot. I doubt there is anyone who would like to smoke it and doesn't only because it's illegal. We are not going to have an increase of pot smokers because it's legal.

Andy Berges said...

10:09 - I disagree.

If it is legalized and parents toke away on their bongs in front of their children in their homes and children see dope available for sale in stores, do you really think that our nation's youth will not be even MORE influenced than they already are?

lmao at andy, ever been to dc? ever seen what runs around most of those neighborhoods? So do tell me andy, if dc allows this what will happen? let me clue you in, only thing that will change is no more open air drug markets selling marijuana. Of course all the regular drug dealing and the murders rapes burglaries etc, will still happen. but honestly I don't know many people who smoke dope and then run around wanting to commit crimes! unless it's stealing twinkies!
another end of the world scenario!

Andy, you mean like cigarettes, cigars, R-rated channels on TV, arguments, having your child get you a beer. The list goes on and on.

It's all about how you raise a child. However, comparing POT, (of which I do not smoke) to your kind of mindset is simply not fair. You are profiling the majority of POT smokers to YOUR point of view and imagination. I do know POT smokers and have been around it since I was probably 13 years old. NOT ONCE have I ever seen someone be as irresponsible as what you suggest and I have to ask, do YOU have a bunch of irresponsible friends that do smoke POT that do what you are suggesting? If so, I strongly suggest you make new friends.

um, the difference is that we (taxpayers) no longer have to pay to prosecute and incarcerate folks who's only crime was to toke up. Not to mention the potential business growth and tax revenue. Just think. New pot shops in what are now abandoned store fronts and definite increases in food sales. LOL

10:28 & Joe - the FACT is that marijuana is unhealthy. Anything you inhale into your lungs other than oxygen is unhealthy.

It is an illegal drug that I believe should remain illegal. While many disagree with my opinion, many side with it.

10:22- better than watching their parents get drunk don't ya think. I think a society full of stoners is far better than our current society of drunks.

My wife and I used to smoke it when friends brought it over, because we couldn't afford to buy it. However, we never indulged with the children were around, or at least would go outside and smoke after they were in bed. Heck in the 60's and 70's I would go to football games and joints came floating by. It was an accepted thing. Those fans who didn't smoke just passed it on for those that did. There was never a problem and everyone got along fine.

Andy, exhaust fumes are unhealthy. Living in China, LA or NY is unhealthy, yet millions upon millions of people live there and raise their children there. Working in a coal mine is unhealthy, yet generation after generation work there, knowing the ultimate outcome.

Allow people to make their own choices. Aborting babies is unhealthy. Come on Andy. In a few years you'll see being on Obamacare is unhealthy. Drinking soda is unhealthy.

We are and have been so over regulated by the Government. You can't drive a car without a seat belt. You can't drive in the rain without your headlights on. Come on man, what's next, seriously.

YOU make the choice, (as do I) to not smoke POT. Let it be and STOP worrying about every one else.

Drive a car andy, if so you release carcinogenic pollutants into the environment on a regular basis, except you're releasing them into the environment where your children have to life. Facts show that marijuana smokers have a lower risk of head and neck cancer. Lower career ambitions, ask President Obama, Bush or Clinton, lower education- ask Carl Sagan. You can have an opinion, but you shouldn't pay to jail others who choose to disagree.

andy if you were a smarter man you would be more concerned about the sub standard products including a lot of the food you eat coming into this country from china! But don't worry cause that's perfectly legal right?
LMAO!

Andy Berges said...

12:32 - Sorry, but not all of us are intelligent, brave enough to post in anonymity, and mature as you are.

JoeAlbero said...

Andy, LMAO, so true. Us Bowie Boys just have bigger stones.

We can't keep drunks off the road as it is. How are they gonna keep the stoned people off the roads?
I hope they do NOT legalize marijuana, there's no reason to do so, except more "tax revenues".
There are those saying the tax money will be for schools. How many times have we heard THAT before? Plenty! There's STILL no money for schools!
Stop falling for all this BS people and wake up and remember the past! We've been here before!

bottom line andy if you want to worry yourself about something at least be smart enough to pick something that is actually having a degrading effect on your life! Instead of worrying about what other might be doing! typical eastern shore mental midget!
Just so you know this is your mother posting here. now run along!

Yeah the past before they made it illegal, like thousands and thousands of years, until 1937.

Good grief the last 3 presidents have admitted to using marijuana, it's time to end this do as I say not as I do mentality. I think Carter has even tried the stuff.

They all admitted to a felony and held the highest office in the country, no pun intended.

You can bet that big tobacco and alcohol companies, and big drug companies will be lobbying hard to keep it illegal because it will cut deep into their profits.

I've seen many documentaries on the subject, many people that were under heavy opiates and hands full of pills a day have traded all their pills for good buds.

Who is anyone, a doctorate or not dare tell me what I know makes me feel better than any of the crap they hand out to many for free samples from their doctor. Then after they are hooked they start getting charged.

You'd rather be on the road with someone taking zannax and vicotin instead of some pot? Most people have no clue how many people function on those drugs daily are behind the wheel, especially the elderly.

Ideally nobody drives impaired, but as long as there are laws, people will break them.

3:44 - I don't appreciate you saying that about my frail 81 year old mother whose health has been deteriorating recently just because you don't agree with my opinion that I have a right to express...just as everyone else does.

You are a very ignorant and hateful person.

andy come on over and we'll fire up a fattie!
Mom

Andy Berges said...

8:31 - I feel sorry for you because it seems obvious that you are a miserable person full of anger who thrives in conflict with others.
You serve as a fine example validating my point as to why marijuana should not be legalized.

Anonymous said...

andy aren't there more important things for you to worry about?
get a life!

Anonymous said...

lol at andy, You don't have a clue about me, no I don't smoke. got a great life and really don't care about aholes like you. I'm just tired of every liberal and conservative trying to tell me and others how to live and what we can and can't do. so worry about your own little part of the world and let us worry about our part! maybe then the world would be a lot nicer place!
novel idea huh?

Andy Berges said...

O.K....you win 9:18 and your idea is novel indeed.

My final comment to you is - if you plan on continuing to bully others with your insulting & belittling words about them, display a teensy-weensy bit of courage and identify yourself. Otherwise, if you continue to insult others in the future via covertly typing away on your keyboard in anonymity everyone will perceive you as a cowardly bully.
