Perry Assailed by Gop Rivals, Defends His Record

Attacked from all sides by fellow Republicans, Texas Gov. Rick Perry softened his rhetoric if not his position on Social Security in a crackling presidential campaign debate Monday night. He fended off assaults on his record creating jobs and requiring the vaccination of schoolgirls against a cancer-causing sexually transmitted virus.

Across a fractious two-hour debate before a boisterous tea party crowd, the front-runner in opinion polls gave little ground and frequently jabbed back, particularly at his chief rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Frustrating double standard can be brought up with the vaccination statements. Beginning a few years ago, all military members deploying overseas to the AOR have to be vaccinated for anthrax. Many didn't want it but were forced to take it. Many have had life changing reactions. Money is being made by Bioport, the only manufacturer. And also a retired Admiral who initiated the vaccination program. And, there has not been a single anthrax attack in the AOR or anywhere else in the world, so the program has been a mass of government waste. Where were the anti vaccination folks then. Are our girls more equal (Animal Farm) than our military?

And this is the audience that believes that if you are uninsured and cannot afford treatment you should die. Pretty clear what the Republican plan for healthcare is.
