Ocean City Artist Sues Town

Claims boardwalk restrictions are unconstitutional

Spray-paint artist Mark Chase typically spends his summers in Ocean City along the boardwalk where he creates sci-fi landscapes in a matter of minutes, spraying and smudging to pulsating music as crowds gather.

He earns his living as a showman, taking tips for his work. But his most important performance this year may be in Baltimore's federal court, where he's waging a constitutional battle that could change the face of the boardwalk.

Chase filed a lawsuit in June alleging that restrictions on street performers and artists along the three-mile stretch violate their civil rights. Ocean City ordinances require permits for outdoor entertainers, prohibit them from selling wares, and force them to perform in certain locations. Chase claims the rules amount to prior restraints on freedom of expression and has asked a judge to strike them down.

Ocean City says its a family resort but its awful funny how they take everyone to cleaners with the prices they lock everyone into. Example any OC event you will only find Pepsi products and at a very expensive price to the vendors which is than passed on to us. Why is that the vendors have to buy from a certain company? It might make one wonder if OC gets a kick back from that manufacture.
Why is that if we took our animal on the board walk and they went to the bathroom we would be fined for not cleaning it up but our law enforcement can lets there horse leave presents for people to step in and that's ok (right in front of the benches by Dollies).
Its because Ocean City politician and others think they are above some of the rest and can do as they please.
It would be nice to see them start doing a little more for the people and a little less for themselves or egos.
