Most Popular Story In Today's Daily Times

Albero files lawsuit vs. mayor

SALISBURY
-- In his line of work as a local news blogger and ultra-conservative provocateur, Joe Albero gets called lots of names he says can't be published in a newspaper.

But he draws a line at being called a "Delaware blogger" -- as Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton has learned.

Albero is seeking $200,000 from Ireton in damages related to the mayor's twice calling him a First State resident at a recent news conference. The libel lawsuit, filed in Wicomico County Circuit Court in June, also accuses Ireton of making "defamatory statements" in telling the media that Albero lied about a prank phone call supposedly from the mayor.

Ireton declined to comment Wednesday for this report.

I spoke with Joe about this case. Ireton knew Joe moved into Salisbury but lied to the public. Joe never received a police report so when Ireton told the public Joe had lied, Ireton was lying again. Jim Ireton will say or do just about anything to make himself look good. This is a good article from The Daily Times.

Joe has a very good case here. Politicians need to stop lying and be held accountable for their actions. Win or lose Ireton will learn the cost of lying from this point forward.

Off topic but I saw the article about Joe in the DT's. I mentioned it here before how impressed I've been with Jeremy Cox who did this story. Just the other day while reading an article on the DT's site I knew without looking that Jeremy had written it- fair and no veiled sarcasism.
If there is any hope left for the DT's someone like Mr Cox needs to be the editor. I'm thinking he is young but already he has what it takes to report the news-period-with no spin placed upon it.

Ireton is history , the times will come around.
Don't you see this is a start of the times defending Joe.
Know one wants to be part of a loser.

Please cut the DT off once you take office Joe. It's the least you can do.

So, THIS is what drove him to drink and threaten you with a car bombing?

The problem here is people consider this "fairly" written. No spin?
Wrong.
"Ultra-conservative" = smear tactic.
"Provocateur" = associative negative connotation.
"Delaware blogger" = keeping the theme alive.
This is spin. Intentional and derogatory.

Avoiding the DT as it appears to be Climate Shark Week (or month?).

It's about time the light of day cracked through any window at the Daily Times. They are sucking up to Joe because they are afraid John Robinson is going to steal high dollar city and county ad's from them. Thus, they feel like they need to take a side, since Ireton and Lake are involved in Robinson's venture, they choose Joe, which is the best choice.

I am glad to say for now, the Times has earned just a little respect from me, however, they still have a long way to go. They obviously aren't going to carry Jimmy's water for him any longer.

I think it's only fair and balanced that people ask for, the Daily Times also didn't cover Adam Roup's announcement some time ago, that he was going to run for mayor. I don't think it's too much to ask for across-the-board coverage on candidates, especially right here in our own city.

This is just a baby step for the Daily Times, let's see if they can really walk the line over a matter of time in their future.

The best thing they have done lately is fire both people involved with that spoof call, which I still think was Jim Ireton.

Now that Lake is tied at the hip with Ireton, police chief Duncan has got to wonder if Ireton was lying to her. I mean, you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes for the red flags to come up.

I'd like to see this person put in cuffs for a terrorist threat and on the front page of every news outlet in the area. I'm sure we won't be too surprised.

Once someone is arrested on serious charges like a terrorist threat, they will be singing like a canary! All of the cards will be exposed, once and for all.

Dear daily times employee , I very much would like you to keep your job just as I would all people, but I would also like your " newspaper " to be honest and forthcoming on all subjects and not to be a political talkpiece for the " mayor" and his cronies. There have been many times I have written into the editor or contributed to the grapevine only to see it ignored because of what I assume are my conservative point of view , while many leftist point of view are repeated time and again . Good luck in your job I wish you well , but I cannot support your newspaper .

10:06-You have a point. Thanks for the insight.

Do you know whether the City tax payers will be picking up the bill for Ireton's defense attorney, and will it be Mark Tilghman?

10:06 is right. Starting a story by calling the subject all those negative things is not "fair and balanced."
