You know the article I put up earlier about Health South and Genesis not accepting any new patients.
Well, now all of a sudden the nurses walked into my friends room at PRMC, all in gowns, gloves and masks, swabbed their nose and have informed this patient they now have MRSA.
We're not sure just how serious things are at PRMC but it doesn't sound good all around.

I heard that anyone affiliated with the poultry industry is denied entry. Poultry, livestock, and swine are notorious carriers of MRSA because of being fed antibiotics. Maybe someone from the local chicken growers association would know more about this contagen.

I've been going there to visit for the past week and a half and haven't heard of any issues or had any problem getting in.
mrsa is more common than most people know or care to realize.
its a staph infection that is resistant to a certain "family" of antibiotics - but there's still plenty of other antibiotics that can treat it. its not a death sentence - people just need to practice cleanliness.
Don't get your panties in a wad. My father has had MRSA for eight years, I have had it for five. More people than you can imagine have it. It's just a staph infection that's resistant to methicillin. The media had blown this all out of proportion. It does have one nice benefit, however; if you are ever admitted to a hospital you automatically get a private room.
MRSA kills more people in this country than AIDS. Very little money spent on MRSA research due to the meat and pharm lobby. 70% of the antibiotics used in the US are used by factory farms-fed to the animals.

MRSA has been around for years.
the local chamber sent out a email to businesses to warn us of MRSA at least 5 years. ago. i received that email at my place of business.
to those of you who take MRSA "lightly"; you are not as informed and educated as you think regarding MRSA.
MRSA info is available to anyone who wants to educate themselves. just google.
MRSA is very serious and it is rampant in PRMC and has been for years.
many people now choose to go to other hospitals (atlantic gen. and john hopkins etc.) just so they don't have to deal with the unclean practices in PRMC. C-diff is another problem in PRMC. wake-up people. our local hospital is not up to par in this area and hasn't been for many years. it's just getting worse as the days go by. there is much cover-up and you need to be on top of what's happening in this hospital.

True, but approximately 0.000058% of the US population dies from MRSA each year while approximately 0.000052% of the same population succumbs to AIDS. When one considers the totality of the situation it's like a mosquito bite on an elephant....unless you happen to be one of those few who actually dies.

I will say it again PMRC is loaded with MRSA this is one nasty hosipital. I choose to die or go some where else before I will go there.Out of ten patients that go in PMRC 8 end up with MRSA.That is not good odds.Stay Away!!!
You are more likely to get that stuff off of a grocery cart at Walmart. Because MRSA was found in their nares means they are a carrier, its not an active infection.
MRSA is spread through contact with other people. Many football players and wrestlers will get it from coming in contact with other players. It is not that uncommon.
MRSA and other lesser kinds of infections are running rampant at PRMC. That may sound like an overstatement, but it's one of the big secrets that the hospital keeps. My late wife contracted an infection almost every time that she was a patient there (not MRSA, but other easily preventable infections). On one of those occasions I said something to a nurse on the infamous fifth floor South; she got very testy when I suggested that the infections were running rampant. I have seldom seen a friend of mine at PRMC who has not acquired some sort of infection.
It's alarming to see what procedures against spreading infection are not taken by staff. Recently, I had a friend whom I was visiting and who had MRSA. Staff had put the yellow gowns in holders on the door of her room, but I observed entering staff throwing on the gowns in a haphazard manner; they do not insist that visitors dress any more carefully.
PRMC needs to get a handle on the rate of infection there. My friend with MRSA had to stay a week beyond her originally planned discharge date.
I know that some chickens are more yellow than others so when I go to pick out a chicken I usually buy the whitest ones. The guy at Sam's who cooks the Rotiseries always lets me know which ones are the whitest and the yellowish and usually puts the white ones on top and yellows on the bottom.
So far I have not contracted any MRSA so he must know what he's talking about.
Many of the previous posters have hit it on the head. Cover up and PRMC just go hand in hand! This is only one of many problems at PRMC and only one of many coverups. When is this community going to wake up about this hospital?

JHU is just as dirty and disgusting as the next hospital. Have you ever been there? AGH has their issues too.
It is widely known through out the world that hospitals patients are prone to infections. This is not something "OMG" new!
So they have a few cases of MRSA, well so does my kids school, and likely other county schools as well.
Wash your hands, keep them to your self and away from your face. Practice good hygiene and common sense.
to 7:55, you're really wrong on this issue.
1. do your own research on the diseases in the hospitals and you will see there are major differences.
2. i'm not worried about me keeping myself clean; it's the health care staff, doctors, utensils, equipment, practices, etc.
3. watch for any scratches, open sores and wounds. this is where you can really get into trouble.
bottom line; you take your own life in your hands when you enter PRMC.
Infections aren't the only things running rampant at PRMC recently. People being fired is becoming a common practice.
Wrong-Johns Hopkins is the place to go. I was in PRMC 4 times for the same thing I went to Johns Hopkins once and have not been sick since. Those people do everything they can in anyway to make the stay as pleasent as possible for patient and family. No Better
How about rumors. People are being treated at PRMC for all kinds of infections. That is what they are there for. How about everyone wash their hands, cover their mouths when they cough, their noses when they sneeze and maybe a little less infection gets spread. An Ems provider.
Hospital Acquired Infections including MRSA and C-Diff kill about 100,000 people each year and is one of the top eight causes of death in this country. I have seen estimates on the number of MRSA deaths at 17,000 annually. It is estimated because many states have not even allowed MRSA to be recorded as a cause of death. (You will see septicemia or pneumonia). Since the most likely place to contract MRSA is at a hospital do you think there may be a cover up here? And let's all face the facts. PRMC is a DIRTY hospital in SO many ways! My assessment is partially based on the cleanliness and hygiene at the hospital (which is lacking) but also because of a few disgusting staff and doctors employed there who need to get their asses kicked for some of the things they do. (If you work in the ED you are probably aware of some of the things that have gone on in the back rooms and elsewhere for that matter). Simply put Hopkins is a world-class hospital (PRMC is not) and people just know that they are more likely to be treated with respect and compassion at AGH.
