Pittsville Accident Scene Turns Into Confrontation With Off Duty Police Officer

Fire Department responders arrived on the scene and immediately called out for a police agency to respond to the scene. According to the scanner, an off duty police officer was involved in a physical altercation with the driver of the wrecked vehicle. For several minutes responders continued to call for police backup and were told by dispatch that none were available and that a State Trooper would be responding to Pittsville from Mardela. Responders immediately asked if they could send a trooper from Berlin. Rt. 50 East bound has been closed, expect delays. The patient is being transported as a priority 3 patient. Everything is now under control. The State Trooper that came from Mardela is following the ambulance to PRMC and has requested another Officer to respond to the accident scene. More to come.

UPDATE: The State Trooper that was following the ambulance to PRMC has now been forced to return to the scene in Pittsville because there are NO Police Officers available. Can someone please tell me just where in the hell ALL the Police Officers are on the Eastern Shore at this time? No one from the WCSO is available as well. This is absolutely incredible.

Been their done that. Working solo called to domestic and the fight is on. Responding unit 25 min eta. Live or die situation. You win process the pos, get home after 16 hrs shift uniform wrecked covered in pepper spray. Next morning your awaken by your Lt ordering you to give a statement...

Any other time the highway has State Troopers at every intersection running radar to catch speeders....must have been a slow rainy night on the shore...

I was always told police are never off duty just not in service, I guess to hard to call someone at home like the sheriff deputy which lives in Willards whose patrol car seems to be in his drive way day and night when I ride by at all different hrs. I have often wondered what part time shift he works. I swear his car did not move for 3 weeks solid at one point and I do ride by early morning, afternoon, evening and yes between 12 and 4 am and there it is in the exact same spot!

If it had been a dwi checkpoint there would have been 20 badges on scene sucking up overtime. This really is outrageous.

The off duty officer is also a member of the fire dept and a few members were helping subdue the individual as well it was great work by the whole dept and all who responded. And the trooper did follow the ambulance all the way to prmc. All in all good night everyone went home safe

In Wicomico County there are by far more multiple agencies that should have been available if mutual aid was agreed upon.

Here is a run down of the police agencies that are in Wicomico County:

1) Wicomico County Sheriff's Office
2) Maryland State Police
3) Salisbury City Police
4) Delmar PD
5) Fruitland PD
6) Natural Resources Police
7) Salisbury University Police Department
8) Office of the State Fire Marshal(MSP)

Not sure whose jurisdiction it is, MSP or WCSO. Sounds like MSP since they were coming from Mardela.

You see there are at least 8 police agencies available to run Mutual Aid, but they don't. If a Mutual Aid Agreement was signed by all agencies in the county then there wouldn't be no Bullsh!t that no one is available.

Salisbury University Police Officers are fully sworn police officers and they have the cars and tactical equipment to handle just about anything. They refuse to go off Campus and get real experience. Talk to Governor Hogan and that sh!t should end.

The Maryland Natural Resources Police officers are fully sworn police officers with some of the best gear around the state. There is no reason they can't be second or third due for the MSP or the WCSO out in the County.

The Deputy Fire Marshal's are also fully trained police officers whose leadership only wants them to handle "fire investigations" only. As a matter of fact they lost their striped, lettered and lighted fully marked police cars and uniforms because the administration didn't want them to be thought of as police officers. They should be out there running radar on their down time as well as investigating accidents when needed.

You see ladies and gentlemen there are plenty of police agencies in Wicomico County so when you hear there are none available, just always remember that they are not telling the truth. They all need to get on the same radio systems and listen to calls for assistance and be available for that next call to assist in Mutual Aid.

Who was the off duty police officer?

Was the off duty officer named Mike and very short? They do protect their own you know. WCSO were all in Salisbury covering their worry butts?

We have been taught that the police are bad guys , what do you expect . I told you that you may need one of us some day . Suffer in silence .

Stop with the bad mouthing of our police officers. All the about "could of', "would of", "should of" BS posted on here shows great ignorance. Did any of you fools call 911 or individual agencies and explain to the dispatcher how to solve the dilemma? No you get on a blog, telling the world why we should be cop haters.

There was false information posted in the original Breaking News article. Of course you fools think everything posted on here is gospel and run amuck doing your "could of', "would of", "should of", telling how to correct a situation that never happened.

You gang up on today's youth about their attitude - without having a brain to think - like father, like son. Try teaching respect. Go back to common sense. .

9:41......please knock off the myth or bull crap about donuts. I imagine some police may enjoy donuts with coffee, but this is not their identity. I put 33 years on the job and can't stand the sweet delight. Rather have a cold milk instead of coffee so there are many police that have never entered a DD store unless answering a call where some nut job had digested too much coffee and became irate. Not all, but most of today's police enjoy body building and not junk food.

Maybe at the sub shop across from east salisbury school see them there almost every morning or the one that sits his police vehicle at his house is always at home off fred adkins rd

To 6:02 I have been telling people all along that you need to protect yourself. If your on a bad situation you can bet there isn't a police officer within 10 miles of you. That is why we have the second amendment tp carry arms. But the communist state of Maryland forbids it. I listened to this unfold last night and was amazed that there was not a County deputy available to go to thus scene/ Now just where were all of County deputies at. The taxpayers of Wicomico County pay taxes for this service so maybe Mike needs to explain.

Since the police aren't around, firemen and paramedics should be armed like the teachers will be.

So what was false? I was listening and that is just what I heard also.

I guess many of you don’t realize it but the fact of the matter is this, at ANY time, day or night, there are ONLY TWO (2) State Troopers working in Wicomico County. In fact, that is how it is in most counties. The state budget cuts have resulted in significant reductions in manpower. That, coupled with the new helicopters that require two providers, has significantly reduced the amount of Troopers on the road. They doubled the amount of manpower on each helicopter without giving the State Police more manpower to cover those positions. That coverage came from road patrol. Usually, there are only two Troopers working Wicomico County. One has everything East of US RT 13 and the other has everything West of US RT 13. Those are the FACTS.

The policeman DID follow the ambulance to the hospital. Does anyone one know what Priority 3 is? That certainly added "OH MY GOD" to the posting. All emergency vehicles in action ALWAYS travel under the Priority 3 rule.

with all the negativity about law enforcement, its getting harder and harder to find good people for the job. All they want is to go home safely to their families. The more the war goes on, the harder it will be to find people to fill those positions. In all the while Md wants to put harder gun control laws in effect. Go take a class and get yourself armed. The law cant be everywhere at one time. as this shows. Best be able to protect yourself and your family. Baltimore was just ranked the most dangerous city in the country. Salisbury and Wicomico county are coming up the the same rankings. Getting worse all the time and No law enforcement to protect any of us. Not to mention that Sanctuary is back under a new name of "Safety Act" What do you think will happen with the crime rates when Illegal criminals come to Md because Md laws will protect them before they do you? Send those e=mails and make those calls to your representatives to tell them to Vote NO and the "Safe Act" No Sanctuary STate! Hang on, This ride is going to get bumpier!

If a citizen did try to tell them how to solve something, they would demean them, put them in there place and threaten them.

No they prefer wawa s now

Soo right. Def agree. Have a permit to keep my gun in my house, and if i have to use it im told i may be jailed for years despite possibly protecting my family and home and i need permission to carry despite working w/ mentally unstable people and criminals. Only in backwards azz md.
