Mayor's Request For Safe Streets Legislation
TO: Council President Louise Smith
FROM: Mayor James Ireton, Jr.
RE: Safe Streets Legislation Request/Council Rules of Order and Agenda Statements
DATE: November 22, 2010
With City Council in legislative session this evening, I offer the following from Council Rules of Order: “Agendas and Public Input”. Per Rule 4: Section C (please see attached), I request that Safe Streets Legislation be placed on the agenda for the Council meeting December 13, 2010. Today is 113 days since this legislation has been presented – so in the spirit of Council Rules of Order I ask for an up or down vote since Council will be unable to meet the Thanksgiving deadline. (A copy of this has been given to City Clerk today)
Per Rule 7: Section D, I ask that City Council President Smith afford me the same level of respect she demands of the public for herself – and that she gavel the meeting to a close when members of SAPOA or any member of the public engages in “impertinent, personal or slanderous remarks.”

Smith does abuse her own rules, and abuses those who violate them -selectively, that is.
Dorks and friends of Louise like Stu Leer can stand at the podium for as long as they like and snipe as much as they want and it's a "Thank you, Mr. Leer. Let's see who's next."
Good job Ireton. Don't agree with you on everything. But this letter hit the nail on the head!
I am no longer a fan of Jim Ireton after he screwed me over, but I think this legislation should be put on the table for discussion. Louweasel is grandstanding and she needs to go.
This is so funny. Why do we need a legislative law to keep the streets safe? Why not enforce the existing laws? What is this? More money to be spent on leaders who can't lead or to hire more friends and family to increase nepotism that is good for that "Good 'Ole Boy" system of things. What a joke.
The only people getting jobs around here if there are any, is family and friends the the companies who will not hire outsiders. Meanwhile the poor are getting poorer and the gangster thugs are getting bigger and madder. This is what the city of salisbury is really all about.
3:05, instead of bashing it, why don't you find out why more laws are needed?
Ireton should stick to these kind of communications instead of what he wrote Kris Adams.
This sounds professional. And it's true, Louise Smith doesn't follow rules and makes up her own.
Hope the mayor sticks with this so we get some normal round here.
