Federalsburg a likely home for new enterprise zone

FEDERALSBURG — The Town of Federalsburg looks to be the likely home of a new “enterprise zone,” a state-designated area that offers tax breaks on improvements to commercial and industrial property in an effort to encourage new businesses to move in and existing businesses to expand, creating jobs in the process.

After a public hearing at Federalsburg’s regular meeting Monday, Feb. 2, officials from both the town and Caroline County passed resolutions, lending their support to an application to be submitted to the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development by the Caroline Economic Development Corporation.

CEDC Executive Director Angela Visintainer said at the town meeting the enterprise zone program is a nicely-designed package, with no downside for the local government.
