Agree Or Disagree
The Virginia Beach Public Schools just announced that they will be making up the 3 snow days on Saturdays. Should our local schools think about doing the same? If not when should they make up the missed days?

NO! Cut out those stupid, "Teacher in service days", and shorten up the Easter break.
In my humble opinion, those days are REALLY lost. Any plan to make them up will be "put in time" days with little or no productivity. Why not just "forgive" the days the same as we do illegal aliens?? (OOPS: Undocumented persons...)
I agree with 6:28 PM however those days are called Professional Days. In our day they were called Teacher's inservice days. The professional days should be done during the Summer instead of making it a day off for the teachers.
7:06 PM is exactly correct. The last 2 weeks of school are nothing but wasted days. They go on stupid field trips to Jolly Rogers and other places. When they are in school they play games and do things to kill time. It is a known fact. Ask your children what they do or find a reason to visit a class room to see for yourself. The last 3 days of school are always half days anyway to make up the total number of days required.
I say cut out the professional days, cut out some of the Easter break oops I meant Spring break! And add more hours to the current school days. Problem solved.
So the professional development days should be done in the summer instead of the teachers having a day off? So which is it? Obviously it is a professional development day for the teachers which means they have to be there!!!!!
@ 7:41 Your kids would be so lucky to be mine…private school education and headed to ivy league universities rather than being the "all stars" on local football/baseball/field hocky team. The reality is that it doesn't matter how many days of school a kid attends when the majority of them have no interest in learning. Google college acceptance rates from LMSD..that's from the public schools (95%)…want a real eye opener look up rates for privates schools in Lower Merion.
Oh yeah, for those that say a college education is not worth anything, look up earning potential and how many people that went to school with former presidents have become multi-millionaires.
Cut out the looooooooong Christmas breaks, the loooooooooooong Easter breaks, and so many of the Teacher's so called professional days. Also during an election year, schools should not be closed. That is why we have a civic center and churches and vacant buildings. No need for schools to be closed on election days. As for making up the snow days, nothing wrong with making them up on Saturdays. I also believe school should be all year with shorter summer breaks. Seems that kids are out of school more than they are there supposedly learning.
Only 2 days that Wicomico can make up now is on the Professional Day on March 31 and the Thursday before Easter. Those are the only 2 possible days left. The other 3 have to be tacked on to the end as well as any others they miss next week.
It looks like there is only one professional day left to even use. They could also take away Presidents day and maybe a day at the beginning or end of the spring break or just add a day at the end of the year. That is if they only have 3 to make up.
these public school kids are so damn stupid you might have to make them go all year long before they get any smarter. Even then it may not happen for some of them, ever seen some of the dummies they got teaching them?
Townships in PA have already taken away Pres Day along with days in their Spring break. The shore is just to challenged to think outside the box in this respect.
In nursing, you had to do your own continuing ed. In your own time & at your own expense. Why do teachers need to be different? Do they get paid for those "professional" days?

You are an idiot! Summer Breaks are needed for many reasons and you have no clue what you are talking about. You are nothing more than a lemming to allow the government tell you when you should take vacations.

NO "Obviously" you don't know what you are talking about. Professional Development days are days that the lawless teachers unions negotiated in the contracts to have extra days off. They are not required to be there so before you spout off know what you are talking about.
And something tells me your an idiot! Before you go spouting off at the mouth, know your facts! Teachers are required to attend the professional days, that is why they have a 190 day calendar unlike the students who have a 180 day calendar. Sure if they want to use a personal day or sick day they have the day off, otherwise they are required to be there according to the contract. But why would I think your smart enough to know that. And something tells me that you are such a genius, assuming I voted for Obama..keep up the good work!

I'd love to have my kids out of the house on Sat. Might even have another one or two….

6:30 PM you don't deserve to have kids. I wish I knew who you were so I could report you to Social Services.

7:06 PM that would be Undocumented Democrats.
Oh and not just all year but school vouchers too...

Absolutely. Why not utilize any days available to make up the difference??

Why do the days have to be made up in the first place?
They're not going to make a lot of difference.
Four snow days should be built into the school calendar in the 4th quarter. If they are not used, then schools close early.
