Oh, I know, looks a mess, doesn't it? In reality though, this truck is in great shape.
One of the cool parts about this particular vehicle is that each and every part of it is available in metal replacement parts.
I thought I'd share the very beginning of this project and one day you'll see me cruising around in this vehicle here on the Shore.
Should I go with the original red, or do you think I should go with another color?

I think I would go with candy apple green. A lot of people restore and go with either red or black!!! dare to be different!!!
Original Red, for sure. Take it back to what it was, no fancy stuff.
I'd go with the orginial red color. She's gonna look sweet when you are done.
A guy in Delmar let a 1957 Cameo pickup sit in his yard until it rusted apart.Glad to see you are able to fix this one up.Any color that hides dirt and does not involve continuous washing and waxing will look great.Great find!
If you bought it to RESTORE it, red is the only choice... If it is a toy, red is still a good choice.

LuCinda, It's a rare find. All of the pieces are with it with the exception of the two front fenders.
I'm currently searching for a new Chevy big block and drive train from a wrecked Corvette.
I want at least a 5 speed stick. I know we'll be getting a LOT of help from Bob's Auto in Salisbury and Lucky's Garage in Delmar.
My Brother had one back in the 1970's and it was the coolest truck ever. I always swore I'd own one and here it is.
i have always thought that the olive green on state police cars is really sharp looking, with a black interior that would be one fine looking mo-sheen! every bonehead and his brother goes with flashy-trashy red, it's unsightly, ugly and garish. surely mr.joe is more sophisticated than that.

Forget the big block, try to get an LS1 or an LS3 for it, lighter, more powerful than a BB and modern trannys will fit...

Why don't you do like the TV shows and document the rebuild. You can video some of it and take pictures too. Promote local businesses doing the work.

Yes, I would like to see the progress on this truck - it will be something to see once you are done with it and every step along the way.
Just to throw it in there,last week I saw a black 1957 Chevy pickup with white bucket seats.It sounded like a 350 but I'm not sure.The color contrast was beautiful but impossible to keep clean I'm sure.It also had old style Cragar mag wheels.I'm not even sure if those wheels are still in production,but back in the day we thought they were great.
10:52, the Craigers are still in production and looked incredible on many muscle cars back in the day.
I have owned MANY black vehicles in my time and quite frankly I have never had an issue washing my vehicles on an almost daily basis.
However, I'm not going black on this vehicle. You watch and see how creative I get with this bad boy because I can guarantee you it will be very cool when I'm finished. Nothing crazy. The dash is all metal and deserves to have a different color scheme.

I saw a yellow one the other day.Personally I did not like the yellow paint,but I was OK with the black seats.New Camaros look good in yellow but pickups don't in my opinion.

Join www.67-72chevytrucks.com it is probably the best place you can go to find all the info to help you with the build. They have forums on all chevy and gmc trucks from 1947 to current including an LS engine swap section. They also have a parts for sale section that you can find NOS and good used original parts to help with the build.

Mmm , maybe chop the top a little , that model is fairly easy. Looks like a 57 , you goin with 454 0r 509 or what?
Make sure you go with injection , no carbs.,no problem. ford 9 inch rear. 373 posi. Just some thoughts . Wayne E.
