BREAKING NEWS: FARMERS BANK OF WILLARDS ON FIRE: UPDATE

Stations 8, 7, 79 and 11 have been alerted. Now command is requesting a truck from ANYWHERE. There's a lot of screaming on the radio. They have now requested a second hose line.

Berlin ladder 6 is now responding.

Command has requested Selbyville to stand by.

Someone just screamed they are trying to cut a hole in the roof and it's caving in. Now someone is screaming they need water boosted ASAP.

Selbyville, DE. has been called in to assist. They need the manpower.
It is now 3:00 PM. This picture was taken just moments ago.

Showell Fire Company in Worcester County is heading to Willards to cover the station. Fruitland was also called in.

According to a neighbor there was a massive thunder bolt minutes before smoke started coming out of the building. More than likely lightning is what started this fire.

We're told the lightening bolt friend their computer base located in that part of the building. Could be quite a mess trying to straighten all of their branch figures out.

Interesting how they have been bypassing ALL of the Salisbury Fire Departments during this whole event. It must be a dig from Mayor Day and Councilman Ireton to NOT participate with the County in any way. Time for Executive Culver to put his Big Boy pants on and cut off the City completely.

Screaming on the radio is normal there. Box alarms would take care of getting a truck from anywhere. Pittsville has a truck. Be careful.

I agree with 2:40 PM. This county needs a more organized and structured EMS and fire system. These hillbillies make it a joke and it's an embarrassment to the county. We need a paid Fire Chief and a completely paid fire department.

All Wicomico County is, is nothing but a bunch of clowns buy parade pieces just to look good and feel good at the tax payers expense. That is my money and that is your money that they are wasting.

I have talked to my elected officials and they don't want to do anything about it. They don't even want to listen to you. There is no accountability so It's time to vote those clowns out of office.

Anonymous said...

Those Hillbillies don't want a Box Alarm system because they know it will take their authority from them.

Anonymous said...

Typical East side fire... Nothing but screams

Anonymous said...

I just listened to Pittsvilles fire chief do a PARR check. All units should turn in an accountability tag for each member when they arrive on scene and that engine or unit would be marked down on the accountability board with a total. The Pittsville fire chief would ask the individual units for accountability of how many are counted for. Their replies were "All accounted for." That is not an appropriate PARR check and would put liability on everyone in charge. If Engine 801 has 7 members then the person in charge of that engine would count each of them to make sure they were visible and safe. The officer of that engine is responsible for their safety and should respond "7 members" not "All accounted for." That is why they are referred to as HILLBILLIES.

Cut them some slack?? You don't send anyone to vent a roof with fire coming through it you dumb know it all Hillbilly. TAKE NOTE - When there is fire already coming through the roof it is already vented, you don't have to vent. It is already vented. No life is worth losing over a burning building.

It depends on where the call is and what type of call it is. Some companies response piece also considers whether it is a hydrant vs non hydrant area. Mutual aid is also set up to include specialty pieces. Structure fires depending on several factors at a minimum are athree company response. Most accidents are a single company, if it is a rescue it may be a two or three company response depending if the first due is not a rescue company. Mutual aid is the closet due companies. And yes that includes out of county and state responses. You also have tanker task forces. There are so many scenarios it's too long to list. A good idea for those who would truly like to know should visit your own first due company and they will answer your questions

You obviously weren't there. Someone mentioned the roof caved in. That means it burnt down. You obviously don't understand the fire service. Screaming into the radio proves a lack of experience and lack of quality training. You sir are defending the wrong people. There is no Brotherly Love in the fire service. Volunteers don't like paid guys, paid guys don't like volunteers. Fire doesn't like EMS, EMS doesn't like Fire. Untrained doesn't like the trained, trained doesn't like the untrained. This fire department doesn't like that fire department, that fire department doesn't like this department.

One thing they all do like is a firefighter death so that they all can cry together and call each other heroes. This is one of the worst kind of organizations you can imagine. Most are involved so then can get a boner driving the big red ding ding blowing people off the road with the lights and sirens on. They are not in it to help their neighbor, they are in it for themselves.

You hope what?? WTH is a knowone?

Why am I hearing Dueling Banjos?

I am listening to the radio this morning and I hear Parsonsburg Station 6 get toned out for an MVC on Rt. 50 East of Hobbs Road.

When someone answers up to respond they ask Central what side of Rt. 50 is it on. The Dispatcher says something like "What side of the highway is it on?"

Instead of getting a professional answer that they deserved the dispatcher makes a stupid comment like "Upon my dispatch I said..."

This is supposed to be someones Emergency and these responders have to deal with an ignorant and clueless dispatcher at the Wicomico County 911 Center. Just answer him "on the Eastbond or on the Westbound side. Please quit being a DICK! This same dispatcher is the same one that is over dispatching on many calls for rescues and fires when it really isn't necessary. Those dispatchers like him are usually the ones that are afraid of fire or are to dumb to pass a paramedic course. Sometimes they are just fat and lazy.

Bob Culver you have had 2 years to clean up this Fire Department mess in this county and all you have done is rewarded them with more money. I know what your reward will be in 2 years Mr. Culver.

Did the Salisbury Fire Boat S.S. Hoppes get dispatched to put this fire out? I heard they had a route planned out to go down the Wicomico and then up the Pocomoke River.

July 28, 2016 at 8:40 PM

I heard the S.S. Hoppes from the Salibury Fire Department was cleaning all their supply line and Hard Sleeves today and then they were going to do a critique on the Farmers Bank of Willards Fire at Noon. All are welcome to attend. You just might learn something.

Hillbilly? That's funny I did not see one person wearing overalls, playing the banjo, or drinking out of a jug of moonshine. Just a bunch of people who left their jobs and families to try to save someone's property, and all for free!

Will someone take that radio away from that Clown! If everyone is Ok I am sure one of them has their own cell phone and already called the PD. What a sad, pitiful life that man lives to get his cookies off talking on the radio. Funny thing is he never gets to a real fire quick enough to establish command. Typical Lawn Ornament from way back.

By the way, most of those people don't have jobs. What jobs are there in Willards, Pittsville, Gumboro, Powellville, etc.? Sad, but true.

Joe is correct. The paid firemen are already on the street shopping for lunch or dinner or they are in the 12 or so recliners just feet away from the engines. I don't think there is much difference in whose stations are closer, but the volunteer stations have to be alerted and sometimes over and over again. Then the volunteers have to stop what ever they were doing, jump in their 4x4 pick ups with oversized wheels, drive like a bat out of hell, finally get to the station, find a place to park their trucks out of the way, run to the station, find their gear rack, get dressed, run to the fire truck, let it run for a couple of minutes, then drive like a bat out of hell to the fire scene.

Now, paid firemen in Salisbury will be much quicker because they are already prepared. Sorry, not taking sides with them, but it is a fact.

Joe that is exactly what Rick Hoppes, John Tull, Darrin Scott and the rest of the paid firemen do. They sit their and wait for the volunteers to fail. Why? Because they are hoping they will justify their paid jobs. They have already run the volunteers out of the county and now they are trying their best to justify their existence so the county can pay them for their unneeded paid firemen. That is how the paid firemen think in Salisbury. They are dangerous people, very dangerous.

Not one person on here said they would wait for a paramedic from Salisbury. As a matter of fact those paramedics in Salisbury these days are quite scary. They scraped the bottom of the barrel to hire anyone that would take the job. Real firemen and paramedics got real jobs in Anne Arundel, Prince Georges, Howard, Baltimore and Montgomery Counties. Heck Ocean City is even better than Salisbury.

I doubt that. But I'm willing to take that chance. All of you move away since you're always complaining about this area. Wouldn't that be the sensible thing to do? And take your leader too since he thinks we suck. If it so was great where you used to live, why did you move here? And if it's so bad here, why do you stay? You ever stop and think it might be YOU? You were unhappy where you were, you come here and are unhappy here. Hmmmm

6:18-Serious I'll agree, but exactly what is getting accomplished?

What exactly IS the "rule" or "procedure" when a fire department needs assistance? Is there a set order each department follows, based on location or some other criteria? I'd like to hear from the Fire Chiefs of all the local departments, as well as Mayor Day and Mr. Culver. If there is no protocol established, then I'd like to know why there isn't one. If there is a beef between volunteers and paid firefighters/EMS, why isn't it being addressed and solved? There is no excuse for either situation to continue.

I'm sure volunteer firefighters/EMTs receive training; how much training they get versus paid firefighters/EMTs, I don't know. I'm also sure than many, if not all, volunteers do this because they really do want to help people. If they also enjoy the excitement/adrenaline rush, so what? I know people who are paid firefighters and EMTs and people who are volunteers; there are many truly good people in emergency services in Wicomico County. However, anyone directing operations in an emergency MUST remain (or appear) calm and in control for the good of everyone involved. Panic is contagious, so maybe if what I'm reading is true, the wrong person was on the radio in the FBOW fire.

Instead of name calling and being nasty, can't we find out exactly what (if any) protocols are set up and why? I'm sorry for FBOW, but this could be a good learning experience for fire departments and civilians. Let's be supportive instead of critical. I'm sure there are folks who would be willing to be trained on the fire/EMS radio as volunteers; not everyone is physically able to fight fires, etc., but would like to volunteer.

I am personally grateful for whoever might show up if I need help. I don't care if they're rednecks, come-heres, hillbillies/shorebillies, born-heres, big city people, paid or volunteer. As long as they know what to do, I would just be glad they came to help.

And, yes, my questions are serious because I honestly don't know the answers. I think we all need to know the truth.

The county has SOP's set up in which they dispatch from. Each district has mutual aid to the closest companies and other companies for specialty pieces. Depending where it is in the first due district may depend who responds. An example of this is if Salisbury needed help on Civic Ave Parsonsburg will be called vs if it was on Queen Ave then Hebron could be called. Structure fires are set up with a minimum of a three company response. Accidents a one company response unless it is a rescue in some areas, as not all fire depts are a rescue company. An example is Parsonsburg they are not a rescue dept do depending on where it is located you could get Salisbury or Pittsville to respond. There are numerous SOP's for every type of call depts handle and if there is a call which has never been addressed before they will critique this and set SOP's up for this. Paid and volunteer have to have fire fighter training. All companies encourage you to continue in all aspects of training including rescue, hazmat, ems, etc etc. Some companies require you to have more and a specific type of training. As for as getting excited on the radio you have that time to time, some people also sound that way as that is what their personality is, sometimes it sounds worse as talking louder and too close to the mic. And yes some just get too excited and should take a breath. If you cannot be a fire fighter they do have fire police which you could possibly volunteer for which are an assist to not only the fire dept but also assist the police dept. It also involves training. I encourage all people at the very least find out who their first due fire dept is and then contact them with any questions

The volunteers have the same exact training available that their paid counter parts do. They all have their training done at MFRI and the volunteers have at least one training night a month. They just lack the experience most of the time.

A countywide paid fire department would make a difference.
