‘Ridiculous’: How a Firefighter Ended Up in Handcuffs While Helping Victims at Scene of Serious Car Accident

While responding to a Tuesday night rollover accident in Chula Vista, Calif., a police officer and firefighter got into a dispute over where the fire engine should park. The verbal altercation ended with the uniformed firefighter in handcuffs.

The California Highway Patrol officer reportedly demanded the firefighter move the fire engine off the center divide. He refused and continued to treat the crash victims at the scene.

KFMB-TV captured the argument and ensuing arrest on video:

Fire fighters and ambulance drivers are always walking a fine line with the police. No diplomacy anymore.Zero to hostile in less than 10 seconds. Is upbringing the cause or at least a contributor?

Firefighters- high school bullies
Cops- kids that got bullied.

Not all of course, but a majority.

Fire Chief is in charge of all accident scenes. Law enforcement officers must make themselves aware of the regulations mandated by FEMA/NIMS. A unified command with an incident commander. The incident commander is the Fire Chief.

From what I've seen, the cops are on a power trip and have no common-sense!

A good majority of them are know it alls, obviously like this guy, so when police ask you to do something, you should listen and do it.

LE has been out of control for awhile now. If you read the update, the FF did nothing wrong and followed protocol. That would denote an issue with LE.

Since Boston bombing, we have no rights, according to LE.

The military influence is not going well, someone forgot to remind them they are not really military.

No, 11:00 A.M. You should be a patriot and eliminate the threat before a cop hurts someone or has a chance to do any harm.
They are trained to be stupid. Even when they are blatantly wrong they will not relent and will power trip you to death. Literally. They eclipsed constitutional boundary's a long time ago and must be defunded to stop all their pre-emptive victimless "crime" enforcement.
Give them enough funds to fight REAL crime, not to arrest a civil servant or a citizen who has done nothing wrong but be a victim of their wrath.

At the scene of an accident, the Fire dept has complete control of the scene until all patients have been removed. Until then the police have no control. Looks like this officer just got his feelings hurt and didn't know what else to do. The charges will be dropped and the officer will be driving a desk for a while.

The National Incident Management System (NIMS) identifies concepts and principles that answer how to manage emergencies from preparedness to recovery regardless of their cause, size, location or complexity. NIMS provides a consistent, nationwide approach and vocabulary for multiple agencies or jurisdictions to work together to build, sustain and deliver the core capabilities needed to achieve a secure and resilient nation.

Looks like they need fire police out in Chula Vista. Hey I got a better idea. Why not give the fire police here on the shore guns and arrest powers? It would be a cost saving measure. They already have 4 hours of training on how to direct traffic. How long would it take to teach them how to fire a gun, 30 seconds? And they already have their own traffic cones and red or blue lights on their pickups. It's a no brainer.

As Gawker points out, “a police officer was fined $18,000 after he arrested a firefighter who also refused to move his firetruck during a highway rescue” back in 2008.

Before this kind of thing even starts the firemen present should have bullrushed this rogue mercenary and cuffed him to his cruiser before he is even allowed to antagonize and escalate the situation to this point.
Time to MAN UP against these roid raging unconstitutional sociopaths.
(You know who you are)

9:25, That is if they are not so busy treating injured patients while running one man short due to a bogus arrest.
One must pick his battles... but this one has merit.

Is that the State Trooper who tailgates every one towards Ocean City in a attempt to get them to do something wrong; drives in circles than races back up the road to civilian cars?

It's so amazing , we have two public servants fighting each for power. Who in the hell does that remind you of , maybe OBAMA!!
The firemen is not a doctor , the cop is not Nazi .
