Salisbury Police K-9 Miso Continues Biting Rampage

With a laundry list of victims, SPD K-9 Miso continues to bite people against his trainers wishes. This time he attacked another Police Officer, AGAIN.

Yeah, these are things you're not going to hear elsewhere and while we absolutely love animals, once you know the multiple inside stories on this particular K-9, something needs to be done because he is unfit to be in the field. He is a liability Mayor Ireton and Chief Duncan.

I bet he's an import from a puppy mill in Eastern Europe. That seems to be a status thing anymore with K9's.

maybe its a handler issue

I wish he would bite you.

Joe......Miso did exactly what he was trained to do. The officer who was bitten didn't know that Miso had been deployed to apprehend someone who had just led SPD officers on a high speed chase with a stolen vehicle. The officer who was bitten began to foot chase the suspect who had just fled from the stolen vehicle. The dog is trained to bite and hold someone who is running - and thats what he did. Dogs are not trained to recognize uniforms.

The dog is trained to bite, if you have been around Miso you would know how sketchy he is, matter fact most k9 dogs I have been around are sketchy, they are trained to bite, you can't control something 100% unless you switch to robot dogs.

I think Miso can pickup on the bad vibes at SPD, being passed around to different handlers doesn't help either.

dogs are trained to recognize uniforms, but around here we don't train them that way for some reason. They can also be trained to stop on a dime and go into guard mode, We don't train for that either. I would agree it is a handler training issue. The breeding is a concern, inter-breeding leads to intellectual, behavioral and genetic issues. You get what you pay for, sometimes!

The 'experts' here in Salisbury perhaps didn't do their due diligence regarding their puppy procurement. Think the WWTP, the fire palace, fire boat...

Imo if he is being passed to different handlers then that could be the problem. He sounds confused. He needs to be taken out of work for awhile until he absolutely bonds with the newest handler. This is just my opinion. I've been involved with dogs for over 40 years but have only groomed A trained K9 not worked with a trained one. Good luck Miso, it's not his fault!

I second what catjowill has said. I saw somewhere that Miso is a Dutch Shepherd. They are flock guardians and companions to shepherds at heart. Could be confusion caused by too much stimulation. He maybe would benefit from time spent alone with his handler and handler's family, which Miso will start to see as his flock. All the DS breed info states to not overlook this purpose (flock guardian) when used for police and military work for well rounded character of the dog.
This type of dog should not ever be kept in a kennel at night as this is totally against their guardian instincts and will mess them up.
