At last nights County Council meeting - the County's Finance Director revised the job estimates downward, thus resulting in a 3.45 million dollar revision to the estimated state income tax revenues. November's job number was revised downward by 9 - showing a slight improvement, but barely marks a dent in what is needed to sustain our local economy. Although the December unemployment rate dipped by .2 to 7.9% - the overall workforce continues to diminish.

Yet they voted to raise our taxes yet again and up the landfill fee even though it is run by county employees!!!! Five years ago I was earning over 20 per hour and had my job outsourced to India. Luckily I am now employed, but my income is only 12 per hour. I had to downsize and sell some stuff to pay some of my debts. My question is, why doesn't the county do the same? Except for these government officials, I don't know too many people who are making as much as they used to make. I even had to get rid some luxury's like cable TV. There comes a breaking point where people just cannot continue to pay these taxes and fees! We need jobs here, not higher taxes. Jobs will bring in more tax revenue. You can't keep taxing your way to prosperity!!!!

4:14, the crab cake bill is actually a great idea. Most of the restaurants that serve them state "Voted Best Maryland Crab Cakes In The Universe!!!" when their crab meat is from Indonesia or some other Asian country.

Was unemployed with exception of some menial jobs in OC during the summer for almost 3 years. Fortunately my friend got me a decent paying job on western shore. Long commute but my family and I would starve if I didn't because no jobs around here and the ones that are available pay terrible.
Pollitt has not yet filed for reelection, so maybe he really is "outtahere".
6:17 most are moving to the other side of the bridge. Was driving through DC and Baltimore suburbs last week and you should see how vibrant that area is with jobs. Construction all over the place with tons of workers. Construction company I visited was looking for cleanup workers paying $15/hour. These depressing numbers and the county's catastrophic conditions are Salisbury's ignorant and incompetent so-called leaders' fault.

As far as were people are going and what they are doing.... My family and I moved from Delmarva last July to Naples Florida...just voted the fastest growing town in the United States google it. South west Florida is growing faster than any other area of the US. As far as jobs there are many and they pay well. My salary increased well over what I made on Delmarva doing the same work. Delmarva is soon to be history.... People that can are leaving fast.

Even if the latest statistics came out yesterday, I don't believe it would have made a difference in the county councils vote because as you can see, our economy is getting worse. I would have thought by now we would have hit bottom, but now it appears as though the bottom is alot deeper than my original assessment.
I am really stunned by these numbers.

I agree, the economy appears to be breaking down. Property values are already substantially lower, and now they will probably go even lower with less jobs. This is not a good indicator.
Joe - you might want to forward a copy of this to George Chavalier. The reason is of historical significance. If anyone ever wants to see what a 2014 Depression looks like, you are looking at it.

I own a small construction firm and all of our work is by the bridge and across.
The only thing being built here is medical facilities and with people like TEMCO bidding so so low and loosing their butt you cannot compete here.
I am in business to make money and make my guys money. I don't know how much longer these companies around here can keep getting jobs at such low bids and keep surviving.

Joe, you interviewed all of the candidates in 2010. I'm sure people like Mathias and Conway promised jobs. All they have given us is tax increases! I'd love to see you re-run those videos and show the voters all of the broken promises.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but there is no other media that is covering this. Despite, the US Bureau of Labor, and the Congressional Budget Office - (two of the largest data collectors) - and yet there is nothing mentioned on any of the other medias. NOW THAT IS SCARY.
