Top Five Reasons Why the Occupy Wall Street Protests Embody Values Of The Real Boston Tea Party

In recent years, the Boston Tea Party has been associated with a right-wing movement that supports policies favoring powerful corporations and the wealthy. As ThinkProgress has reported, lobbyists and Republican front groups have driven the current manifestation of the Tea Party to push for giveaways to oil companies and big businesses.

However, the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations picking up momentum across the country better embody the values of the original Boston Tea Party. In the late 18th century, the British government became deeply entwined with the interests of the East India Trading Company, a massive conglomerate that counted British aristocracy as shareholders. Americans, upset with a government that used the colonies to enrich the East India Trading Company, donned Native American costumes and boarded the ships belonging to the company and destroyed the company’s tea. In the last two weeks, as protesters have gathered from New York to Los Angeles to protest corporate domination over American politics, a true Tea Party movement may be brewing:

The Boston tea party and the Tea Party movement were both tired of being taxed where as the Occupy Wall street protesters are paid for by George Soro's and want to take money that they didn't earn so comparing the Wall street protesters to anything other then the worthless lazy under achievers that they are is not accurate.

The tea partiers knew exactly what they were protesting.

These idiots occupying wall street have NO CLUE what their protest is all about!

They even started making a list to determine why they are protesting!

Most of the things on their list require Congressional action.

I wonder if any of them know how to vote in regular elections?

I thought this article was funny. Everyone arguing over who is the better patriot. I say, if you're holding the powers that be accountable for their actions and trying to think for yourself instead of believing the pap we're fed from the media you may just be a patriot! I don't care if you're against the war and support single payer health care or against raising taxes and public unions. It's obvious all parts of the system have become corrupt. Speak up about it when you don't agree with something. Don't be afraid of what people with contrary opinions may think. Educate yourself so you can hold your own in a debate, and don't be afraid of reading about the opposing point of view. Speak up, speak up, speak up. The powers that be count on us being passive and helpless.

If they're so upset about corruption why don't they march on Congress who waste all of our money? They choose to march on the private sector hmmm.

6:11. Thank you. Well stated. 5:35 --- did you READ what you wrote BEFORE you posted that drivel? You think the bankers and Wall Street rip-off artists REALLY EARNED the billions they, ... hold on, now and pay attention --- STOLE from the taxpayers? You are on THEIR side? You think they EARNED multi-million dollar bonuses while demanding the government (that would be you and the rest of us taxpayers) give them BILLIONS of our money to make up for the greedy and bad decisions they made? Is THAT what you are defending? ???????

the problem is in washington. wake up and smell the coffee, the bankers could not get away with it if it wasn't for the stinking politicians selling out to their lobbyists! get a grip on reality. the protesters are just a bunch of soros funded secu union left wing slobs! Who write all the bills that come out of washington? the lobbyists that's who, not the politicians, so the lobbyists put what benefits them in the bills and your idot politicians (both parties) pass it and we all get screwed!

Too bad we can't tar and feather lobbists and run them out of town on the next rail.

Lobbists are no better than terrorists, trying to buy our freedoms and liberty out from under us, without even a kiss we are getting screwed.
