Maryland Young Republicans Oppose Congressional Map

Chairman calls proposal "ridiculous, disgraceful"

The Maryland Young Republicans join the majority of all Marylanders who are outraged by the Congressional Districts proposed by the Governor's Redistricting Advisory Committee.

"The Congressional districts proposed by the Redistricting Advisory Committee are ridiculous, disgraceful, and an insult to each and every resident of the state of Maryland," said Maryland Young Republicans Chairman Brian Griffiths. "The majority of the Committee clearly decided to act in the best interests of their party instead of their state."

"The district proposed by the Redistricting Advisory Committee look like the result of the creation of tie-dyed t-shirt more so than sound public policy," Griffiths said. "Like the districts proposed in 2001, this proposal is nothing short of disgraceful and embarrassing to the people of Maryland. These districts were drawn with absolutely no regard to communities, district lines, or commonality of interests among the constituents of that district. It is certain that Maryland will continue to be recognized as having some of the most Gerrymandered, politically engineered districts in the country."

"In my testimony, I was one of many citizens who urged the members of the Committee to support districts that were compact and truly representative of the people of Maryland," Griffiths said. "It is apparent that the members of the Committee, as I predicted, paid no mind to the thoughts of their constituents when creating this map.The Maryland Young Republicans join our fellow Marylanders in opposing the legislative districts that have been proposed by the Governor's Redistricting Advisory Committee. The people of Maryland should not be subjected to districts that are so gerrymandered for crass political purposes."

Critical to the growth of the Republican Party, the Young Republicans reach out to registered Republicans, 18 to 40 years of age, and provide them with better political knowledge and understanding of today's issues. Since its creation, the Young Republican National Federation and its member groups have established themselves as the premier Republican grassroots organization in the nation, providing essential grassroots support for Republican candidates and conservative issues on the local, state and national level.

Unfortunately, to the victor belongs the spoils.

I'm sure it is all of these things and more (less?) but, painfully, I must defer to 12:54

If the majority object, why is he Governor? Ye shall reap what ye sow.

I'm not for any party but the independent one...

Clearly they acted in their own parties interest, when it says that they did so to get rid of some positions of the Republicans but not desecrates...

Of course because the democrats are near the edge of losing grip and they are doing all they can to keep in power even at state or city govt...

This is half the reason where in this mess... People are to worried about others and what they do or think or say when they should worry about themselves first... It is also bad when you have to use trickery to win at something instead of being good at it or working hard for it...

What do we expect, as long as money is around or political crap... then it won't ever stop...
