Maryland GOP Decries New Congressional Map

The Maryland Republican Party lashed out at the state’s proposed new congressional map Tuesday, after Gov. Martin O’Malley’s redistricting committee released a set of district lines that would make it harder for Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett (R) to keep his seat.

The advisory panel’s proposal, which is subject to public comment for a week before O’Malley (D) will submit his final plan to the General Assembly for approval, could result in a 7-1 advantage for Democrats in the congressional delegation. The map would bring Bartlett’s 6th district down into Montgomery County, while giving portions of more conservative Frederick and Carroll counties to other lawmakers.

Redistricting is total BS. It is designed to protect the power structure of the ruling elite. It has NOTHING to do with "the people". If, by various reasons, your particular district demographically changes and you no longer appeal to the majority of voters there, then you get to PICK the area where you can win? THAT'S what the DEMOCRATIC process is all about? Let "we, the people" decide who goes to Congress and represents us, not the other way around...
