Newlywed Arrested After Rushing Wife To Hospital

(June 20) -- When a newlywed cancer survivor with a heart condition started showing stroke symptoms, her husband knew he needed to get her to the hospital immediately. Now, the new groom faces a felony charge from an encounter with a police officer he says delayed his wife's access to treatment.

Just married last week, Eric and Aline Wright of Chattanooga, Tenn., both medical professionals at Erlanger Medical Center, were enjoying what was supposed to be their honeymoon when Aline's speech became slurred and her face began to droop on Wednesday. During the ride to the hospital, Eric says he paused at two red lights but ran them both. After passing through the second red light, a police cruiser pulled behind the couple's vehicle, following it with lights and sirens on to the hospital.

Eric, a trained medic who served two tours in Iraq, said he knew getting Aline to medical care as quickly as possible was critical and at first felt glad when the officer pulled in behind them.

He should have stopped for the police. They are our masters. You cannot disobey the police. He should know that by now.

"he scratched my arm with his FINGERNAIL"!!?? LOL! Now, THATS one tough cop....I wouldn't even have the guts to put that down on paper...lol...I, for one, am happy that we are being "protected" so well....give us more of this "protection", please...Even I, without any "special" police training, would recognize that someone rushing to the hospital, MAY have an emergency neccessitating some haste...It has eerie similarities to the pro football player who was detained by another cop (for running a red light, too) who, even after he (the cop) was told the player's mother-in-law was dying, lectured him on his "attitude problem" and refused to allow him to go inside the hospital....anyone want to debate the "public masters, not public servants" issue?? And these thing happen EVERY DAY...its not an isolated incident....this one just happened to make the news...lucky the veteran didn't get shot for "reaching for a weapon".....
