Retired Teacher Blasts Revenue Cap Limitations and Own Party

Dear Editor:

Having just read Mr.Geoff Smoot's rant in the Daily Times it appears to be the writing of a ultra left wing, liberal Democrat who has gone bonkers. How else could anyone explain his article? I've read a number of his past articles and even found myself agreeing with some of his points. Something must have happened to this retired teacher to make him go off the deep end. There is really no reason for him to go calling his party a bunch of shameful cowards or calling the citizens who voted for the revenue restrictions a bunch of lunatics. When the property tax restrictions were placed on the ballot in 2000 it was passed by an overwhelming majority of voters who were Republicans, Democrats and Independent voters. These citizens came together to help correct the action of a government that was not responsive to it's citizens. It was the issue and not the parties that brought the people together. There is no doubt in my mind that when you give the citizens all the true facts they will come together again to assist our local government in making the right decisions. Mr.Smoot is a retired Wicomico County teacher who has a vast knowledge of our education system. I would invite him to meet with a few VOICE members informally and discuss his many issues and see if he could channel this knowledge into something positive for Wicomico County. All it takes is one call and I'm in the book.

Very Interesting.

Smoot really gave the Democratic party a real tongue lashing.

Maybe he will finally see the light and decide to move over to the right. By-and-large the democratic party has failed miserably especially during the Obama reign.

The revenue cap helped realtors and developers reap huge profits when land prices were high and building was booming. Certainly, they were able to avoid paying their share when times were great for them.

Smoot is a product of his profession,he spent his life teaching liberal trash to his students.

The revenue cap did one thing that was to make some realtors and
land owners rich.
