Man uses flower ruse to steal from senior living facility, authorities say

BEL AIR, Md. —Harford County investigators are searching for a burglar who targeted the elderly. Surveillance video shows how he made his way inside a senior-living complex.

The video shows the man bringing a bouquet of flowers in with him -- a simple but clever ruse. The thief got away with loads of valuables, and the way he got into the building is raising questions about security at the complex.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office captioned the video "Who does this?" In a Facebook post that's getting thousands of views.

It shows a man peeking into the windows of the Avondell Assisted Living Complex in Bel Air, carrying a bouquet of flowers, then walking into the building just after 7 p.m. on July 28 with no apparent problem. Once inside, he's accused of burglarizing several apartments.

So a flower shop delivering flowers to someone's loved one in a nursing home, is now going to be required to have ID and clearance to deliver the flowers to a nursing home??? Flowers should be left at the reception area and delivered by nursing home personnel. That person should have never been allowed in and allowed free reign to the rooms, flowers, or not! The nursing home was negligent in protecting their clients.
