Man charged in Fruitland jogger’s death dies of lung cancer

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — A man facing a homicide by motor vehicle charge in connection with the death of a jogger has died in custody.

Lt. Tim Robinson of the Wicomico County Department of Corrections says 44-year-old Brent Morgan Taylor died Wednesday of lung cancer. He had been hospitalized for more than a week.

Taylor was charged on April 8 in an Oct. 16 incident where 37-year-old Robert T. Schultheis was struck by a truck while jogging near Fruitland. Investigators say Taylor was driving the truck that struck Schultheis, who later died from his injuries.

Brent was a good guy. He raised his son pretty much all by himself when he could have very easily walked away. Sad to say, but he is probably better of dead than having to face what he was facing. Rest in peace my friend.

It helps when you have a big guy sit on the suspects chest.

Please explain 11:26. Maybe I'm stupid, but I don't get it.

It is a very sad situation for all involved.

Maybe this is going to be unpopular but joggers, walker, bikers need to stay off the roads. When you are as dead as a door nail or a vegetable the reality is it makes no difference who is at fault. It's not going to help the person who was hit. You are no match for a vehicle. It's dangerous and it's foolish to use a road way in any other manner then to drive on it with a vehicle.

I agree with Anon 11:13, he was a great guy. Anything that was in his system that night was doctor prescribed. It was a horrible accident, and it's a shame that he was denied bail and could not continue his cancer treatments. May he and the jogger both rest in peace. So unfortunate for both families, especially the children that were left behind. :-(

get a grip 1:09, lots of narcotics are dr prescribed. and the labels on the bottles tell you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while taking them. it's illegal and possibly deadly to drive under the influence whether you have a prescription or not.

It's against the law to drive with narcotics in your system and like 1:41 said dr prescribed too. A lot of people do not know this. People leave the methadone clinics all the time and get in cars and drive.

I agree, maybe driving was not what he should have been doing. I was stating that it was an accident. He should not have been sitting in jail, without his cancer treatments.

The driver should not have been out of jail the night the jogger was killed. He was out on bond awaiting sentencing on a drug charge (not the first offense). Had the judge done his job, the driver would have been in jail the jogger would still be alive among us

You are incorrect 3:02. Taylor wasn't out on bond awaiting sentencing. He had no open court cases. Earlier that month (Oct) he had been placed on probation for possession of heroin.

Anyone who knew the suspect knows he was a junkie. Long history of pot, pills, heroine & alcohol. The people who get on here and defend him have addictive problems of their own or children who do!

is this the judge?

Sorry, but I partially agree with this statement. Please stay off the roads.

So even thought the jogger was running against traffic to see oncoming vehicles thag may hit them and someone crosses the center line and whole other lane, then strikes a runner, it's the runners fault? Your a true winner...

But, But, But I thought it was the doctors fault??

I'm pretty sure medications like he was on / prescribed state on them do not operate machinery aka a vehicle

sad for all

You're the "winner" 5:18. No one said anywhere that it's the runner fault. Don't be so foolish. NO one said that at all! What do you lack reading comprehension skills or something! What was said is that it's stupid to put yourself in the position of being hit by a vehicle because you aren't going to win and no matter who is at fault it's not going to bring a person back or heal their injuries. There are too many vehicles on the road nowadays and you never know who is impaired. If you have to jog then do it somewhere where there is little to no traffic like a school track or a quiet neighborhood.

Anyone that was close to Brent knows how he was getting his life back on track. Why dig up the past, anon 4:16? Let the man rest in peace. We'll miss you, friend. :-(
